Same old shit. I'm so sick of Punk lmao. Honestly he seems to be unprepared in his recent promos and winds up repeating the same shit over and over and over again. He's hear to hurt people. He's bad. He doesn't care about fans. blah fucking blah man. Don't care. do. not. care.

I agree with everyone saying Punk not putting over Rock wasn't a big deal. In his promo two weeks ago that everyone creamed themselves over, Punk put himself over Bruno Sammartino, saying he was better because he wrestled and defended his belt more times, regardless of whether it was true or not. Did anyone think he 'buried' Bruno by doing that? No. In fact, we all thought Billy Graham was being over sensitive about complaining about that very thing. People commented that's what made it a great heel promo, the fact that he got under the skin of someone in real life with his comments.

Punk has a record title reign and calls himself the best in the world. It should be expected that he may put himself above everyone else. He's been doing that for quite awhile. It should be no different that he puts himself above The Rock. And to be technical, he never said the Rock was a nobody, just that he wasn't on his level, which isn't the same as saying he was a nobody to beat. Heels are supposed to talk shit, and The Rock is only about the last person in the world who needs a heel putting him over.

As for the promo, I loved it because I loved Punk sitting up in the sky box while Rock was in the ring. I loved the Shield attacking Rock and then Punk getting the last word in while Rock was spitting up blood. It was a great final segment to lead in to their title match on Sunday.

That was pretty nice, indeed.

Went back and forth on this, I hated it during the show, but maybe a boring, BITW-era Jericho-esque promo was the right way to go. Punk doesn't need to put Rock over, they don't need the added heat, it's the guy with the 7th longest title reign in history vs the fucking Rock, what more build do you need than that?

But right now, the entire fanbase is behind the Rock, so why risk that by letting Punk actually be entertaining? Just throw him out there to be a douche for 5 minutes.

Great post, completely agreed.

I must say, I have truly enjoyed reading through the discussion here. Nice input from quite a few people, with plenty of back-and-forth debate and conversation. Kudos to you guys. Anyway, I'm a big Punk fan, but I thought last night's promo was lackluster and somewhat boring. I may need to go back and rewatch it when I can really focus on just that, but during the show and while watching last night, it just didn't seem to live up to par. I guess I didn't feel like it was as good as I know he could have done. I'll try to remember to give it a second viewing though just to see.

Was gonna chuck my opinion in here but what's the point, these two posts summarise it perfectly for me.

Just watched it. Meh, it was alright. Didn't love it, certainly didn't hate it. I will say this though, it was different enough that even though I don't rank it among Punk's best promo's, it manages to stand out so at least I'll remember this one longer than the other promo's he cut that I thought were just alright.

I liked the debate. The fact that Rocky was spitting out blood was fantastic. I'm worried though because every RAW it seems the idea that the Shield was hired by Heyman/Punk becomes more and more possible. I just don't want that alignment to suck. Both groups are fine on their own, they're both fierce, they're both bad-ass. It already irks me that Maddox is Heyman's tool.

I still can't work out why people think the Rock needs to be put over. I wasn't surprised D'sZ didn't like it though, it seems like Punk could cure cancer and he'd still hate him :p.

I'll say this one last time, then I'm done with this thread. Putting Rock over HELPS Punk more than anyone. No matter what the result of the match Punk comes out of it looking better, if he puts the Rock over, instead of burying him. No response is needed to this post cause it's my final one on the subject.

Well duh. Cancer = our only form of population control in 2013.

The link to that promo doesn't have a working video, but if you're referring to the "your arms are too short to box with god" promo yeah, that was really good. It was unlike his usual bit, and it was average until he got to the last part, which sold it for me. Hope that's the one you guys are referring too

Nope wrong promo.

That one was even worse tbh. Can't stand "tough guy Punk" acting like he is some badass vs Rock

Would you rather him do his normal mic promo? I was getting tired of that stuff.

I think Punk has to ply the tough guy because you compare the two and it automatically looks like Rock is winning. Punk has to give off this illusion that he can hurt Rock and there is doubt that he'll win. Rock has done it too, to make Punk look like an even opponent for this match.
