Is CM Punk the one for him to return against at WrestleMania 29?

"Maybe Punk’s not the guy to go against. He needs to pick up his intensity. We’ll have to see what I do, I’m happy now doing what I am. In a perfect world, where I could step back into the ring for one last match I would be willing to have that discussion with management. I do miss the business and working a live crowd, going out there and wrestling your hearts out."

I agree with him not being the guy. I don't agree with him not having intensity though as that would have been one of the few things he couldn't be knocked for IMO. If that is how he feels truly, who do you think would be the guy?

I think that was bit of a motivation tactic on his part wanting to see Punk be more edgy rather than him suddenly changing his mind. It's pretty much the only match/feud I wanna see him back doing. Yea I know there is Cena but probably one of the few who don't really have much interest in that.

CM Punk can bring the intensity when needed. Right now he's trying to play top face, therefore doing exactly what WWE wants of him.

I'd like to see him vs Orton.

It wasn't that long ago that everyone was saying 'Orton is the next Austin' too.

Punk has lost his edge. He lost the thing that made him the top guy in the company and now he's almost in a coasting kinda mode. Its like he had the drive before so it made the match tween him and Austin look too good and like it was just inevitable. But now its looking kinda eh. But Punk can definitely turn it back up. He has that ability.

Randy Orton being the next Austin was one of the dumbest things i've ever heard ever. I'm a big time Orton fan but he can't hold a candle to Austin on the mic or in the charisma department. Orton isn't the one to face Austin that would be complete letdown. I do think Punk has toned a bit which is a shame. It's getting to the point where if Punk can't do these real intense promos where he's getting under someone's skin, then just turn him heel. Punk is incredible as a heel that's it not even funny. I think it's too soon to bring him heel, but even as the big Punk fan that I am something isn't right. I don't mind the feud with him and Jericho but this has been somewhat a letdown. I want back and forth on the mic, but instead we get this crap where their isn't much time to respond to one another. The best segment they had together was before they brought up anything with the straight edge issue. That being said, Punk is still the guy to face Austin because nobody else can and Punk would be in the perfect role.

Most of the people that seemed to agree with the Orton is the next Austin thing were younger wrestling fans that didn't watch Austin's run. So just based on the comparison of Rattlesnake and Viper it was taken as serious notion. Orton clearly doesn't have the same charisma.

With that said I don't want Austin to return just so people can overrate another Mania just because of crowd reaction.

One thing that needs to be understood is that when he first started doing it was cause he wasn't getting the chance to be one of the main guys of the company, hadn't got a chance to run with the ball as champ, etc. Most of the stuff he complained about he can't complain about anymore. Besides it wouldn't be as special for him to just shoot off all the time just for the hell of it there has to be a balance. He is in a feud right now that it would make no sense for him to be the Punk from the summer. Anytime he has had to use his whitty edgy stuff he has used it and anytime where it wasn't needed he hasn't.

That said don't think people realize how much they could do with Punk and the possibility of a Punk has gone a little soft story. This could be what could set off a Punk/Austin feud if Austin brings up to Punk how he has become too content where they could go different routes with that one of them being a Punk heel turn since Punk could reveal he was playing everyone ie: Like he did in ROH with Summer of Punk. Or you can use someone else for it instead of Austin. Not like he still hasn't been great since turning it down a notch but I do think they need to at least make sure once every week he gets at least 8-10 mins of mic work because he's one of the few where people pay to see him talk more than they do to see him wrestle.

That was spot on PHX. I do accept the fact that the whole shoot thing is now mostly over but even in the winter he was still very enjoyable. I enjoyed his work with Del Rio even though people said Punk buried him even though Del Rio is below average on the mic. You make excellent points though and I do hope that happens. Regardless of what happens, I'm fortunate that Punk is still here. People can criticize him all they want but most of those people were the same people that would mark out for him as a heel then they were so upset that he was going to leave. I'm a loyal fan so I'm always going to be thankful that Punk said. He has lost a little edge but he still is the guy I want to hear talk these days. I'm satisfied with the WWE these days for the most part after looking back on how terrible 2009 was (well Smackdown was pretty awesome but Raw 2009 oh god) and 2010 was a mess. 2011 was an amazing year and 2012 is off to a great start.

Punk sometime feels stale too me. I mean he can bring it for sure on the microphone. He is a top 5 mic worker in the company today. No doubt about it. I just feel him and Austin match would be interesting do not get me wrong. But if Austin could wrestle one more match. Would you want that to be Austins last match? Let's face it we would want to see another match, and who knows how Austin is feeling.

I feel Punk is more entertaining chasing the belt, than being the world champion. Sort of like Randy on how he is more interesting as the chaser. When he is champion though most of his reigns are boring. Punk though is not a bad champion. I think he is a good champion just want to see more out of Punk.

Cena is the guy for me because it comes down to 3 things

1. Credibility

Cena can be believed as a challenger to anyone. He has built his resume. He has earned his battle scars, cut hsiteeth, and fought for his place on every big stage and in any hostile environment. Everyone whether they love or hate him knows he can bring it, including the casualest of casuals. And again it goes back to who has Punk ever beat in his career clean? He went over Cena in a screwy fashion to get him to where heis, but he hasn't beaten A quality guys, and yes I'm saying Jericho isn't HHH, Taker, Michaels, Dave, Cena, or even Rey quality in terms of the win meaning something because he jobs too much to the wrong guys

2. Atmosphere

Make any excuse you want for Punk but he hasn't had that atmosphere he had last summer with any opponent but Cena. Not even Trips could get the same feel in their match. His mania match was quiet, people can make excuses but the fact is they didn't have the crowd like they should in that triple main event setting. Even now, his Jericho feud as some heat, but it isn't the same kind of heat that Jericho even had with Rey by simply demasking him. Cena gets a reaction, mixed, hate, love, whatever, it is always deafening in the building when he is put in a scenario and makes for great viewing on tv and even better in person.

3. He's earned it

Cena is the guy he is the one to bust his ass every night. He has been going harder since 05 than anyone on the roster not named Taker/HHH can even relate to. Cena is the guy working the most dates, filming movies, making the most wishes, and doing any interview with a smile on his face even when he logically feels like shit physically. He goes out there and he represents the company and himself well at all times. He is the utter professional. He is the guy who earned his way into being a draw, he earned his way into a relation. The belt was not handed to him to try and get him over like a Del Rio, a drug scandal like Punk, or to spite Brock like with Randy. He had to earn his shit and he never looked back after he finally got the reward. He became their best draw, he became a merch mover, he became the main attraction, and he became the big match guy who always out on a sow. Fuck the move or lack of wrestling bs, with the lights on bright he does his fucking job better than any full time wrestler on the roster and anyone who has ever seen him in person knows that. He is the ultimate showman. He is the guy of his generation. Because he is who he is, and the likelihood of a Rock, Austin, or Taker only having the one match left in them he has earned the right to be the first guy on the list to get that match over everyone else on the roster. It's real recognizing real, and with all due respect to every Punk fan, they even have to admit that Punk has not earned the right to possibly have Austin's one and only return match over Cena

Punk or Cena would be the only two even worthy of the match with Austin. Frankly I would rather see Punk as a heel in that match because a face v. face feud between those two just doesn't sound half as interesting. Doubt Punk will turn heel again for a long time though.

Not sure why Austin thinks Punk needs to pick up his intensity. His current feud definitely makes him seem a little soft, but ring-wise, I really haven't noticed any change.

I'm so so on the potential of a Punk/Austin feud but I do like this idea but in an ideal world this would happen straight after this current Jericho feud after he's lost the belt, but we know that he's firstly not going to lose the title and secondly this potential encounter would only happen at WrestleMania.
