SLAM! Wrestling posted today a lengthy article on Alberto Del Rio, which includes comments from the SmackDown wrestler himself. Below are highlights from the interview.

-- Del Rio believes he will be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion "very soon." He also feels he will become one of the organization's top five stars within the next two years.

He explained, "That's the reason I came here, that's the reason I left everything behind -- my friends, my family, my house in Mexico, my status. I was a big superstar in Mexico and when I came to WWE, no one knew me. Now I'm building my career here in the States, little by little and I'm sure I'm going to be one of the main guys pretty soon."

-- Del Rio said he based characteristics of his in-ring character from personal experiences with people he dislikes.

"To develop my character, I only used experiences from people I hate," he said, laughing. "That's making my job really easy. All your life, you have the chance to know people where you hate the way they talk, the way they walk, the way they express themselves and that's what I do to develop my character. I just remember people I hate through the years and that's Alberto Del Rio right there."

He said prior to being put on television, he had a conversation with Vince McMahon in regards to his character's portrayal.

"Before my debut, Mr. McMahon told me, 'You gotta believe to make people believe,'" Del Rio said. "When he told me that, I was like, 'OK, all that I need is to believe my character and that way, everyone in the crowd will believe in this character.' That's what I do every time I go out, I really believe I'm Alberto Del Rio. I really believe I have all those cars, all those millions."

-- Del Rio said it was initially "really hard" working without a mask in Florida Championship Wrestling after using it for ten years across the globe. It was a learning experience for the second generation wrestler, who not only had to learn a different style of wrestling, but had to work without a mask for the first time in his career.

"I feel great now, but at the beginning it was really difficult because I had wrestled with that mask for over 10 years everywhere, Mexico, Japan, Europe and at the beginning it was hard because you're not used to selling your expressions," he said. "But I was there in FCW with guys like Norman (Smiley), Dr. Tom Pritchard, with Dusty Rhodes, and they helped me a lot. They helped me all the way. I think there's a reason I'm doing such a good job here in WWE."
I think by next year he'll be a top heel on smackdown as world champ. Thing I'm curious about is would he ever work as a face.

Don't worry, he's got enough money to buy you.

God, I SO hope when he said he'd be champ "very soon" that he meant Sunday. I sincerely doubt it, but please. This guy is carrying SmackDown on his back. There's literally NOTHING besides him that's even slightly endearing about SmackDown!. It's an absolute embarassment and I wouldn't endorse SmackDown publically right now if you paid me.

I don't believe he'll be one of the top 5 stars in 2 years, though. That's too big, even for him. I mean, I think he'd deserve it, but there's no way he's getting past Cena, Orton or Sheamus. Then you have to consider Barrett will be ahead of him, and Edge, Rey, Taker and Triple H won't all be gone by then, so...

I think there is a shot at him winning Sunday honestly just for the fact of what kind of match it is & the fact that I think Edge will feud with him partly cause he took took out Christian. So while I think Edge will take it I'm not counting out ADR.

I don't see it because he was added at the last minute. Why wasn't it announced as a fatal four way in the beginning if he was going to win? It's possible WWE wants to make him look like he has no chance and then win, being a last minute addition, but I doubt it.

The fued has been between Edge and Kane, ADR will not win.

Interestingly enough, if by some MIRACLE he does win, he'll shatter Brock Lesnar's quickest title win record by about 40 days, give or take.

I think ADR will make a great face. He's got the charm to him that people are going to like, plus he certainly has the charisma and the eye pleasing in ring ability. Just get him to either stop flaunting his riches as part of a storyline or do it in likable way and he's set as a face. I'm not saying I want it to happen for ages, but if the time should come, then I think he can pull it off no problem. It's something that sets him apart from a guy like Wade Barrett.

I think he was added at the last minute because WWE panicked about the event failing due to Cena not being on the card, thus being rushed back in time for it and taking the slot of main event "chair match", along with the fact that neither Edge nor Kane can probably take the big bumps. So logically, he probably doesn't have a huge shot; however, I've thought for some time that Edge would win the one on one TLC, then lose to ADR at the Royal Rumble due to a Matt Hardyesque run in from Christian, so perhaps they will just skip the middle man and put the gold on him at TLC, then go with Edge/ADR from there and delay the blowoff to Rey/ADR until WrestleMania.

Perhaps that's more me being hopeful because I don't want to see anyone else win at TLC, but whatever.

Not sure how accurate it is but I remember hearing something weeks back about Rey possibly being hurt again. So it could be possible Rey ended up being better than they thought health wise to be able to do a TLC match. Whatever the reason may be the match will now be 10 times better than it would have had they just left it as is.
