AJ Styles signs autobiography deal

Former NWA and TNA champion AJ Styles has signed a deal to write and release his autobiography with VIP Ink Publishing, making him the first TNA star to release a book on his life and career.

The publisher issued the following press release today:

VIP Ink Publishing signs Pro Wrestler, A.J. Styles (Allen Jones), for an autobiography.

A.J. Styles is an American professional wrestler currently working for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). Styles is one of three wrestlers to have worked continuously for the company since its first broadcast on June 19, 2002. Since he joined TNA, Styles has been a four-time World Heavyweight Champion. He has held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship three times and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship once, the very first TNA X Division Champion, while also sharing the record for most reigns (six) with Jay Lethal.

With having won the TNA X Division, NWA World Tag Team, and NWA World Heavyweight Championships, Styles was the first to complete the TNA Triple Crown Championship. Styles would later complete the Triple Crown three more times, making him the only man to complete it more than once.

His victory over Booker T for the TNA Legends (now Television) Championship made him the first man to have ever won the TNA Grand Slam Championship, which he has done twice. Also, he is the only wrestler in TNA to have held every male championship owned and sanctioned by TNA at any point during the company’s history.

All totaled, he has won eighteen championships in TNA. In 2010, he became the first TNA contracted wrestler to rank in at #1 on Pro Wrestling Illustrated annual PWI 500 list.

Styles’ autobiography will cover his life from both in and outside the ring. His autobiography will highlight being brought up in a military family that struggled with poverty and alcoholism.

Styles is a devoted Christian and has stated on many occasions that “Its God first and family second.â€￾ This autobiography will have his fans gasping for more, as they will be able to appreciate Styles’ life from his severe beginnings to his TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

First of all good on him for getting this deal.

But, he seems like a pretty dull and boring guy. He isn't obscure like Foley or a rockstar like Jericho and he hasn't travelled anywhere near as much as them or worked for as wide a variety of countires. He just seems like a plain guy who has had a good career and it will be good to hear about the early days of ROH and TNA but that is about it. Also by looking at what other books have been published by that Publishing House and by reading all about how Styles is a full on Christian I fear that this is going to be a very preachy book.

I got a lot of respect for AJ. He's a solid worker and his faith shines through. May just have to read this one! By the way, I love Jesus too but I don't jump so high! lol!

Thing is there is a bit of negative reaction automaticlly from non-Christian's about the idea of reading about religian which I don't get, surely you don't have to suscribe to something for it to be interesting, really it depends on the person writing about it. Maybe the fact that Styles is one of a few wrestlers who is religious and maybe one of the more high profile ones might draw some attention to the book.

I am a little concerned that he might be a bit of a bland person to base a book on, partly because he strikes me as a very down to earth every day guy, who spends much of his time outside of wrestling playing computer games and the like. Still having been in the busness over a decade and having wrestled for a whose who of indie promotions, not to mention the names he would have come across in TNA I am sure he must have some good road stories. I just hope we get to read them in this book.

I may check it out just out of interest. Sure AJ doesn't seek like the most exciting person outside of the ring, but truthfully I never saw Mick Foley that exciting out the ring either and it certainly worked for him.

It's always good to read wrestlers give their perspective on their experiences. So I'm sure there will be a market for AJ's book.

Who is looking for conflict? My point of bringing up his religion was to point out that the publishing house he is using publishes full on evangelical books and because of that this will be a weak WRESTLING book. If I buy a wrestling book I want to read about wrestling and real life. If I want to be preached to about cults headed by a fictional being I would head to the fiction section of the book store.

Gary Hart, Mick Foley and Chirs Jericho have written the best wrestling books and I couldn't even tell you what religion they follow if any. What they wrote about was their fascinating work in wrestling. Based on the publisher it seems like this book will be more about his religion and lifestyle rather than wrestling and he doesn't even seem to be an interesting person with crazy stories from all over the world.

That right there, claiming God is a fictional being. How do you guys know it's going to be a lame book if they discuss a little bit about his beliefs. To be honest, he hasn't had a crazy career like Foley or Jericho. His life story could be interesting.
