5 stars from Meltzer is a participation trophy now, don't think he loves shit unless it's over 5

dont think its that outrageous for his own scale but ya, it was a damn good ladder match and im strugling to think of anything bad with it
I don't wanna detract too much from it, but essentially, it was just a spotfest. The cutter is an all-time highlight reel moment, yes, but where was the selling and psychology? To me, those two things are critical to a match being rated 5 stars. And for my money this isn't even the best ladder match I've seen. Not even the best 1-on-1 ladder match. Might not even be top 5 tbh but I'll have to give it time to age first.

But yeah, that's the issue with ever "breaking the scale", which is idiotic to begin with. Once you've broken the scale, it basically invalidates everything that came before. This being a 5 and so many other matches not being is ridiculous. I guess that concept has been beaten into the ground now, but goddamn it's stupid. :lol

Anyways, I get that it's Meltzer and 5 stars doesn't mean perfect anymore. Which is exactly why I think the whole scale should just be scrapped.

It's extra annoying for him bc for the longest time he would give the most amazing one on one ladder matches 4.75 and left HBK vs Razor as the only one at 5 when HBK/Jericho and Jericho/Benoit were better IMO but that was after he became allergic to giving WWE 5 stars

Right off the top I don't rate that match higher than Benoit/Jericho, Edge/Cena, Steen/Generic or Mysterio/Guerrero

But yeah, it's Meltzer so who cares lol match was great. If Cody and Sammy were happier bc he gave em 5 them good for them too

Still not sure I like HBK/Razor that much. It was definitely good, great for the time even. I've never thought it was fantastic.

if your going back to old star rated matches and expect consistency youve already lost and probably going to work yourself into a shoot tbh

I think that's fair EC, I think spots & structure of the match were great, but I can see the issues with the selling. I remember Cody was working on the leg and Sammy didn't seem to be too affected by it at all

It's literally just the breaking of a scale that's the issue lol it makes 5 not mean shit anymore
