I agree hes put on incredible matches id also agree his story is slightly less interesting than when he was chasing.

I think this has been exactly what a first reign needs for a young bbface and once he loses it hes a player for life so mission accomplished.

Id like to see Punk run with the ball however, its his time now.

Yeah I can't believe it but I'm actually cheering for fucking Punk lol. I just think the better stories come out of it this go round. It's gonna be hilarious watching people trying and act like its the same thing as idk like Goldberg winning the Universal Title or something, I for one look forward to that mental gymnastics.

Basically it's def going to be simplified to "old guy beats young guy for belt, you only like it bc AEW does it hypocrite" and it's gonna be hilarious unless y'all actually take them seriously

The match itself however has a chance of being one of the greatest in aew history. Both punk n hangman are producing the highest level of match and storytelling . The clash of styles will be outstanding

The current reign Hangman is having ironically reminds me a lot of Punk’s World Championship run in 2008. Punk might’ve had the belt, but he was on the same show as Batista, Randy Orton and John Cena. So even though Punk was Champion, he never felt like the #1 guy.

Page is the Champ and is somewhat over but Punk feels like the bigger deal. Danielson is in a tag team and he feels like a bigger deal; Wardlow seems like he’s on his way to being a bigger deal.

Your World Champion should feel like a big deal; right now Hangman doesn’t. He did when he was chasing, and maybe he will again once he drops it. He’s just flat right now imo which is why they’re teasing this heel/aggressive side.

I agree to some degree but personally wouldn't use such strong words, but I totally get where you're coming from. I personally don't mind that other people have hotter angles. BUT! His angles haven't been that hot, or when they have, they are stop and go, for whatever reason.

I think your point about someone like Wardlow is valid, he's consistently booked to have a good story for the past few months, has a clear direction, and is the focus of his own storyline.

In contrast, Hangman's opponents are often the focus of his feuds. Now, perhaps pairing him up vs two super crowd favorites in shorter angles, both of who I would argue are more over than Hangman (and not through Hangman's fault at all, its fucking Danielson for one, and Cole is just perpetually over a.f , you can't deny it). Matches were insane, but since everyone was over, there wasn't a very rich story being told (there didnt need to be, but when other rich stories are on the show, well you dont feel as important).

And again to your point, when Kenny was champ, no one could deny The Elite were the focus of the show. So I can see why some people would feel Hangman's reign, while not bad or a failure, isn't quite hitting the same notes as his chase was. It's fair.

I also strongly believe that Kenny being out with injury immediately after the title change was a fairly significant hamstring on Hangman
