You check out the replies.....it's basically this.

LOL being loyal because you once worked there.....I guess you need to go on podcasts and shit on them to be considered an non shill.
If he didn't end it with I'm not a WWE defender he'd probably have been fine.

He setup himself up when he recognized his own bias and tried to distance himself from it, preemptively.

And again, critique isn't mockingly saying WWE isn't laughing at AEW. WWE legitimately doesn't have to fear AEW, but they don't take them lightly, either. We know this to be true. WWE has made several moves to combat the rising popularity of AEW including changing contract structures and moving NXT to USA in a 2-hour block ahead of AEW's debut on TNT. He just sounds deluded with his ramblings.

Nah, that's probably valid criticism. Even AEW fans aren't liking his commentary. Though, it's probably a bit mean to tag him in it.

Was he openly shitting on it? TBH I know he sounded unenthusiastic for a bit of it. I'll have to listen to it again on my next watch.

Come to think of it I do remember him mocking a couple things. Now might be the time to dump JR since Tony just came aboard.

At the very least talk to him about his commentary.

Tony won't be any better tbh......if you've seen MLW.

I've not, but he was always my favorite.

I'll have to check out a recent episode he commentated because I can't imagine I'd hate his work.

I actually think Jericho is the right choice for inaugural champion. Big Hangman fan, don't like his awesome finisher being kicked out of but it was a nice twist, too. AEW obviously has a very passionate and loyal fanbase, but Jericho will draw new eyes for TV, the relapsed fans and so forth. That's the most important thing, right now. Plus babyfaces chasing Jericho and his promo skills will be fun to watch. He did very similar thing in NJPW, got a title to put other people over, eventually. He may be past his prime, but he can still go. I'd argue he had the match of his career 8 months ago vs Naito. Mad lad agreed to take a piledriver on the ramp.

As for JR, he was better than last couple of events, but man his negativity is tiresome. It's like he doesn't understand his own product. AEW is basically PWG rules where the refs let them play a bit. Same bullshit he did in NJPW. He was better at all out though. But, for me commentary should enhance the product, tell the story and make the wrestlers look good. Calling Pac dumb is just not a good look.

So overall how did you guys like this show? I read through the thread, but I won't be able to watch a replay until later this week if I get around to it. It looks pretty good, but idk how I feel about some of the booking. Granted, reading results is never a substitute for watching bc some things just translate better when you see it. Jericho as their first champion feels like a big letdown to me even though I'm a huge fan of him, idk I think it would have been better if one of the Elite like Cody or Omega won it even though that would have gotten criticism for them booking themselves to be champs early on, but I just never thought Jericho would be champ as I thought he'd just be in the gatekeeper main event role to lose to top guys when they'd want them to get to that next level.

That tag and women's division really looks awesome though, I kinda expect to enjoy both of those more than the main men's roster from what I've seen at this point.

Thing is you can't do Cody or Omega as champions yet as they are telling longterm stories with both. Mox I think will be the next champ. Great storytelling by Cody in his match. He hadn't said a word about what Spears did and snapped and got massively over with the crowd. The MJF tease was fantastic. They are gonna slowburn the shit out of it.

I thought it was their best ppv yet. The crowd was insanely hot throughout. Orange Cassidy got an Austin level pop. There was little bit for everyone. Great tag matches, Young Bucks basically got murdered to put the lucha bros over, the hardcore match was insane. Poor Darby got murdered more than once. Omega vs Pac was fantastic, Luchasaurus is massively over. Riho vs Shida was awesome.

The only thing i didn't love is the battle Royale. The format just doesn't work for tv. The announcers were confused with who was coming to the ring, camera didn't know what or who to follow. They need to rework this because i liked the talent and surprises. Britt baker continued to improve showing feistiness, same for Allie, Gibbs showed great athleticism. I think the division has great potential but we're gonna have to be patient as many of the talents are inexperienced. Since Omega is in charge of the division, i have no doubt it will become great eventually.
