3D MOVIES DECLINE AT BOX OFFICE

The latest revival of 3D may have turned out to be another flash in the pan. While a record 47 movies were released in 3D last year, revenue from 3D movies dropped 18 percent to $1.8 billion in 2011 versus $2.2 billion in 2010, according to figures released Thursday by the Motion Picture Association of America. Nevertheless, the conversion of theaters from film to digital continued apace. In a conference call on Thursday, John Fithian, CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, observed that 65 percent of all U.S. screens now employ digital projection while 50 percent of screens worldwide are digital. “This offers a wider footprint for showing movies in 3-D and greater versatility to show movies in diverse genres to more consumers,â€￾ he said.

There was bound to be a drop off simply due to there being no Avatar released last year. However if they continue to decline this year I'll be very happy since perhaps it will end the 3D idiocy again.

And what is funny is all of these people that have bought the expensive 3D Blu Ray players and Blu Ray TV's. I hope this is spelling the end for 3D.
