Teams
Red Bull:
Webber and Vettel
Ferrari: Alonso and Massa
McLaren: Button and Perez
Mercedes: Hamilton and Rosberg
Lotus: Raikkonen and Grosjean
Williams: Maldonado and Bottas
Force India: di Resta and Sutil
Sauber: Hulkenberg and Gutierrez
Torro Rosso: Ricciardo and Vergne
Caterham: Pic and van der Garde
Marussia: Chilton and Razia

Nineteen races this season starting with Australia on the 17th of March and closing in Brazil on the 24th of November. Five drivers will be making their F1 debut this season; Bottas, Gutierrez, Van Der Garde, Chilton and Razia. Plenty of driver changes in the off season with the biggest one by far being Hamilton moving to Mercedes. That move could help Mercedes a contender as long as they have a decent car under him and Rosberg. Perez has a great chance to prove himself at a top team but the pressure will be on him so he will have to deliver. I am still annoyed that Kobayashi doesn't have a drive and it is a bit frustrating that more talented drivers are overlooked for pay drivers these days.

Last season started with seven different drivers winning the first seven races of the season but I can't see that happening this season. There should be plenty of drivers challenging for wins throughout the season though and hopefully it is a close race for both Drivers and Constructors titles.

Australian GP is this weekend and whilst my heart is saying a Webber win my head is saying Button since it should be wet over the weekend.

Typical, Melbourne has a heatwave but then once F1 arrives it has to rain. Unfortunately only Q1 was completed today but I guess it just makes tomorrow even better with the last bit of qualifying plus the race. Melbourne has rain predicted for tomorrow as well so it could make for an interesting race. Plenty of drivers going off the track during Q1 today and quite a few ended up hitting the walls as well. Pumped for the race tomorrow.

I was surprised Force India had such a strong showing today considering they really haven't ever really been a power player. This was one of their better races although in the past their cars haven't been too reliable so I'm still not expecting them to be a major threat to the more established teams. I was also impressed that Hamilton and Rosberg managed to come out so strong considering the problems Mercedes has had with their cars as of late. I know Hamilton said in a pre-season interview that the car was fast but not too reliable and unfortunately that showed when Rosberg's electrics failed. I would've liked to see Mercedes win a race. I was happy to see Kimi win, though, and especially in such a dominating fashion. I just couldn't bear to see Vettel and Red Bull win another title so if Lotus can keep it up, I wouldn't mind. I'm still pulling for Mercedes, but they just can't seem to iron out all the kinks in their cars. This was only the first race, so we'll see if they can step up their game. We still have a long season ahead.

Was a good opening race. Lotus' car looked after it's tyres the best and it is always good seeing Kimi get a win. Red Bull were great over one lap but struggled in the race, the car seems to wear the tyres a lot. Webber did what he always does, have a shocking start, so frustrating seeing him go from second to eighth by the first corner yet again. I wish they could work out that issue with him but if they haven't done it by now I doubt they can. Was a different race considering it was very cool which isn't what we normally have for the Australian GP.

One interesting stat mentioned during the race was that from the last 17 winners of the Australian GP 11 have gone on to win the drivers championship. Could be a good sign for Kimi who was solid last year in an inferior car.

Well the fact that the car did look after its tires allowed him to only pit twice as opposed to Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, etc, who all had to pit three times. Kimi's always been a first rate driver. He's already got one title under his belt and last season, even with an inferior car he still had a strong showing and managed to finish 3rd in the rankings. If Lotus managed to improve upon last year's car, with his skill, I think he might be able to grab his second title. I'm sure we're gonna see a lot of Kimi, Vettel and Alonso vying for first though.

If Grosjean has learnt how to stop running into other cars then Lotus could be one of quite a few teams challenging for the Constructors title as well.

McLaren are working with Red Bull to prevent a repeat of a technical problem that affected Mark Webber in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

McLaren have apologised to Red Bull and Mark Webber after a software problem with an Engine Control Unit supplied by the team affected the Australian in the season-opening Melbourne Grand Prix.

Webber qualified second on the grid for his home race on Sunday, but a software-related issue with his car's ECU saw him make a poor start and drop to seventh place by the end of the opening lap.

McLaren say they are working with Red Bull to prevent a repeat of the problem at future races.

"The electronic units themselves ran without incident in Melbourne, but there was a software-related issue that meant that Mark Webber's Red Bull Racing car's garage data system had to be re-started during the formation lap," a statement from McLaren Group read. "That disrupted his preparations for the start of the race, for which Mark and the team has our apology.

"We are working together with them to prevent any recurrence."

McLaren Electronics Systems, a division of the McLaren Group that also comprises the Formula One team, supplies standard ECUs to all teams on the 2013 grid.

The new ECUs were run for the first time on the track by most teams during winter testing in February.

The ECU - which acts as a car's primary data system - powers this season's 2.4-litre V8 engines and will also be used for the new 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged units coming in from 2014.

It is actually good to read that Webber's start was a mechanical failure rather than driver error. Hopefully they fix it for Malaysia this weekend so that he doesn't lose five spots at the start.

The Malaysian GP belonged to Red Bull and Mercedes but it was definitely a good race. I really wish Mercedes were able to mount a better offense at the end, but unfortunately they had to settle for 3rd and 4th. I'm cautiously optimistic after Mercedes's fantastic showing in this race. It seems they may be working out the kinks in their cars and had it not been for Brawn telling Hamilton and Rosberg to conserve the cars, they may have been able to challenge Red Bull a bit more thoroughly. They both drove really well today and as I said last week, I'm pulling for Mercedes this season so I'm pleased with the race outcome for the most part. There was definitely a bit of good action during the race along with some screw ups in the pit that may not have really affected this race's outcome, but easily could've on any other day. On the first lap, Alonso ran into the back of Vettel and damaged the front wing on his car, which wouldn't have been so bad if Ferrari hadn't opted not to repair the wing which later broke off the car all together and put Alonso out of the race. I get the reasoning behind why they made the decision to have him attempt one more lap before pitting, but on only the third lap, they should have played it safe and pitted him once to fix the wing and once to switch over to the dry weather tires. They definitely could've made up the time two pit stops so early in the race would've cost them, but instead Alonso had to retire. They gambled, and sometimes you have to, but I didn't think that was a smart decision since that definitely cost them points. I was definitely angry to see Vettel win especially since the team orders were to allow Webber to remain in front and he completely disobeyed them and, at several points almost collided with Webber, to get a win over his teammate in only the second race. I thought that was really low by him and Webber had every right to be as pissed as he was on the podium. I was almost hoping he'd collide with Webber just so that he would be out of contention, but Webber deserved to be on podium with how well he drove. Rosberg, on the other hand, obeyed team orders and allowed Hamilton to stay in front even though he was pleading with his crew to let him pass Hamilton. Hamilton said after the race that Rosberg really deserved third because he drove more consistently, which is pretty much true. Both Perez and Button also drove well and it actually looked like Button was going to take fifth or possibly better before he ran into problems in the pit with a loose tire and on the track with some front end vibration.

Other than that, some really egregious errors were made by the pit crews. Toro Rosso was fined for a dangerous release which led to a collision with a Caterham car and the fact that Button somehow left before the wheel on his car was tightened was definitely a bad look. The latter was certainly an accident, but that cost McLaren a lot of time so regardless, it needs to be addressed. It seemed like all the pit crews still need to get into the groove of things though. I'll give to Red Bull that their pit stops were flawless and the fastest of any team if I'm not mistaken.

I was absolutely livid after that race. I liked Vettel before this race but after that race he showed that he is a spoilt brat that can't handle being second. What makes it so bad is the fact that at the last stop Webber allowed Vettel to pit first to ensure that red bull had a 1-2 finish since webber was already five seconds ahead of Vettel. Then he turned his engine down into conservation mode since he knew he wouldn't be challenged and then Vettel stabs him in the back. He couldn't pass Webber when they were in a racing situation so he had to wait until webber turned his engine down to do it. Such a slimy thing to do and I am amazed at Webber's self control after the race. No idea how he didn't hit Vettel after that. He did well with his interviews as well remaining calm. I loved the "Vettel will be protected as usual comment" from webber on the podium. It makes no sense for Vettel to have stolen that spot anyway since it is only race two it isn't like we are at the end of the season and he is desperate for points.

Cant believe that Ferrari didn't put Alonso. The front wing was dragging along the track the entire lap and it seemed like a no brainier to pit him. Cost him a podium spot. Interesting to see how well Mercedes did here and how Kimi struggled after cruising last race.

I mean, if we think about it, Senna and Schumacher would've done the same thing Vettel did, and they're like 1 and 1a on the list of F1's greats. Every good driver is competitive like that. Believe me, though, I still don't condone it. I feel like winning without class like that isn't even worth it. I'd rather lose and show some humility and have people really respect the effort I put in than win and have people think that I'm a worthless piece of trash. I think the team orders are what really screwed Webber over though. I mean asking drivers to make sure the cars come home with them is one thing, but in my opinion a sport is supposed to be a competition of the best and if it wasn't for the team order to turn down the engines, Webber would have won. So, I was also really just angered by Vettel's move as, like you said it's only the second race and he already had to resort to an underhanded tactic to get the win. I mean, as if he is EVER going to be desperate for points. Webber also said that Seb was a "peddler" which I thought was funny. The anger in his voice was evident, but he kept his composure.

I read an interview earlier and Kimi said his car felt slow yesterday like something was wrong with it. He did lose half of his front wing in the early stages of the race which could have been why he kept going off his racing line. Hopefully next week he sorts out any problems and can be competitive again. I mean, it's only the third race next week and it's already really a toss up on who is going to be coming out in front this season. Ferrari definitely cost themselves podium by not pitting Alonso, but Lotus and Mercedes seem to be working it out. Hamilton is still quick to downplay any notion that Mercedes is going to be a power player though. Even Button was doing very well before the screw up with his left front tire cost him 13 places.

I was reading another article and Seb is claiming he passed Webber by accident. That's a crock of shit if I've ever heard it. If I were Red Bull, I'd honestly be worried about what Webber is going to do when he's told to hold position. I doubt he's remaining at Red Bull next season after this race and I wouldn't be surprised if he blatantly goes after Vettel from here on out. A former F1 driver is calling for Red Bull to suspend Vettel for one race. Let's be honest, that's not going to happen. It'll certainly cost them points, but he needs to be put in his place after that. It's clear that Horner just doesn't command much respect as team principle because Ross Brawn told Rosberg to hold position and he did as he was told. I feel like had Rosberg disobeyed Brawn, heads would've rolled. If you listen to Rosberg's radio transmissions, it's clear he really resented not being able to compete, but he obeyed his team anyway.

True all of the greats have that selfish streak in them and the win at all cost attitudes, Senna and Schumacher crashing into others to prevent them winning titles are classic examples of that. If Vettel had managed to pass Webber under team orders but with both engines on full I don't think I would have been as annoyed. The fact that he waited until Webber was vulnerable from his engine being turned down is just wrong. It is going to be interesting to see what happens later in the season if Vettel needs a win and Webber is infront of him, Webber is a team player but I can't see him going out of his way to help anymore. This could get to Senna/Prost levels.

Button was unlucky, he did look good and seemed like he could have challenging for a top five position if it wasn't for that terrible pit stop. It is setting up for an interesting season with plenty of constructors seemingly around the mark. Hopefully Lotus can sort out the issues they had this race to get back near the front in China.

If Vettel had passed him by accident as he claimed then he would simply have let Webber through again. It was a silly claim for him to make but I think it finally dawned on him that he had screwed up big time by doing what he did. Vettel is Red Bull's cash cow and both Red Bull and Vettel know it. Vettel knows that he won't get a serious punishment and that is why he would have been okay with disobeying his bosses orders. Any other team would suspend their driver for a race but Red Bull won't. It is a good comparison with what happened with Rosberg and Hamilton, Rosberg was pissed but he still wouldn't disobey his boss. He even got scolded for saying "Don't forget this" as if to say that he deserves some preferential treatment later. Horner needs to do something to win back control but I can't see what punishment he will be allowed to give Vettel.

Well Webber already said he's considering his future at Red Bull after that move, so I'm sure if Vettel needs a win, there's no doubt that Webber will stop at nothing to prevent him from getting it. Really, the FIA won't do anything if Webber tries to win cause it isn't their job to enforce team orders so the only consequence that could come of him disobeying team orders is a suspension or fine handed down from his bosses and at this point, who knows if he isn't so mad that he's willing to take that punishment just to spite Vettel. The whole passing on accident card was just ridiculous. That's bull and everyone knows it and we all know nothing's going to happen to Vettel so I have no doubt this is going to be a cold season at Red Bull.

Not surprised Brawn and the higher ups at Mercedes didn't appreciate Rosberg's comment given how no nonsense Brawn is.

I hope that this will backfire on Vettel later in the season so that there is some punishment to this. Just completely ruined the team dynamic that was already tense but it should be fun to see what happens the rest of the season between the two. Hopefully they both get top three in qualifying or podium finishes so that we get more interviews with both together.

Horner needs to take a few notes from Brawn on how to control a team.

A Red Bull has an issue with his car in qualifying, guess which one it was? Webber of course had to be the one to suffer from low fuel pressure AKA run out of fuel rather than Vettel. Hamilton took pole in a weird Q3 where no-one really wanted to run a lap since the tyres degrade so quickly on this circuit especially the new soft tyres from Pirelli. Riccardo had a great run to make it into Q3 and will start from seventh.

Going to be a fantastic start to the race with so many drivers out of position due to strategy. Plenty of places to over take on this circuit as well so it should be a fun race. Webber needs a clean start like last race to get up their in the points.

Never agreed with 'team orders' like that telling drivers to let their teammate get the win, its not Vettels fault Webber wasn't good enough to win.

But the issue was Vettel wasn't good enough to pass Webber until Webber turned his engine down. Before he turned his engine down as requested by the team Webber checked with the team multiple times that Vettel wasn't going to challenge. When they confirmed that he wouldn't he switched his engine down to save it and then Vettel decided to attack. Webber had a big gap on Vettel when they were racing properly on even terms so it was a dog act from Vettel to blindside Webber.

I do like that even Helmut Marko has come out and said that there basically won't be any team orders for the rest of the year. Could end in tears for Red Bull though if they don't win at least one title, but I like that they are giving both drivers the freedom.
