With the Grammy's over today the next big award show is the Oscars which will take place on the 26th of February. The host was going to be Eddie Murphy which would have been awesome but after the producer was sacked Murphy stepped down in a show of support for his friend. Due to that, Billy Crystal will host it for the 9th time.

I posted the main catergories as there are simply too many to post in the one thread.

Who do you think will win and what do you think of the nominees?

For Best Picture I have no idea why Extremely Loud and Indredibly Close has been nominated. I think that it is another case of the Academy voting for a movie simply because of the topic (9/11) and because of the actors (Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock). The Artist has this in the bag because it is a silent black and white film with Hugo in second.

For Best Director Martin Scorsese will win for Hugo. It is his first family film and because of who he is he will win it.

Best Actress will go to Meryl Streep. She hasn't won one in three decades but she will for this performance of Margaret Thatcher.

Best Actor will be close between Clooney and Dujardin but in the end I think that George Clooney will get the nod.

Best Supporting Actor should be Christopher Plummer with Kenneth Brannagh in second. Impressed that Jonah Hill managed to get a nomination.

Best Supporting Actress will be Octavia Spencer, really can't see anyone beating her on the night.

Original Screenplay is a tough one as I am torn between The Artist and Midnight in Paris. Woody Allen got the Golden Globe for Midnight in Paris so I will back him here. Good to see that Bridesmaids was nominated here, really should have been nominated for Best Picture as well.

Adapted Screenplay is another tough one. I want The Descendants to win because Jim Rash and Nat Faxon wrote it, both of those guys were in Reno 911! and Jim Rash plays the Dean in Community. It will be between that and Moneyball.

Best Animated Picture is a confusing one. The Adventures of Tintin won the Golden Globe yet for some reason hasn't been nominated and in my opinion it was the best looking film in years plus it was awesome. I think that the fact it is a more European friendly film hurt it's chances. Winnie the Poah was also screwed since it has better reviews, 91%, than three of the five films that were nominated. No idea who will win so I will go with Rango even though it doesn't deserve it.

Think I got about 14 out of 23 will take that.

Only seen bits of the show. I don't know I think Crystal always proves a safe pair of hands and it did seem to flow a bit better than some recent years. Although some of the video packenges seemed very ramdon. The best aceptance speech I heard was from Dujardin. Am really pleased for Plummer, a very fine actor who should have won a Oscar years ago. Still not enough suprises for me. Am sure the Artist and Hugo are great films, but there are other great films overlooked due to them dominating.

Nolte not winning was a travesty. Guess acting gay is a sure Oscar winner.

7/9 for my predictions. I just didn't predict that so many would write in The Artist for every single award.

So happy that Jim Rash and Nate Faxon won. Both were on Reno 911 and Jim Rash is the Dean on Community. They have to mention this on Community.

Was The Artist that good? I dont know how a black and white foreign film could win in modern day. And didn't the actor that won an award only say like 2 words during the movie..?

It won because it was black and white silent foreign film. The voters like these type of films and that is why they are always nominated instead of mainstream successful films. I didn't expect the actor to win, I thought that Clooney had it simply because the other guy didn't say anything.

Ah, if I was Clooney, I'd be pissed.
