The 2009 Orton was a great heel Orton, that storyline was fresh and great with it leading up to Wresltemania 25. The one we saw last year was pretty shitty since he wasn't that vicious as before.

Imagine if Orton brought this level of intensity and ferocity to all of his feuds. Seeing an unhinged, nothing-held-back Orton go up against Seth Rollins or Brock Lesnar (the latter of which looks like will never happen, unfortunately) would be awesome. Rollins thinks his curb-stomp is deadly, but wait until he's on the receiving end of a punt kick, etc.

Also, I have to somewhat agree with the wise and sagacious TMGI here - not that Orton would have been as big or bigger than Austin with the right push (lol, just... lol), but if they HAD pushed this version of Orton hard as a babyface at the top of the cards, he could have had a huge successful run as a top-level face. Anyone remember those reactions he was getting from 2010-2013?

I'm telling you man.... 2009 Orton as a face battling the authority .. Especially if sheamus joins the authority... Great feuds.

Orton can be gold... They have a good opportunity here.

Orton was an astounding heel in 2007 - 2009. It was a shame when he turned heel in 2013, he couldn't of brought back that viciousness.

Orton can pull off one of the most serious face in WWE.


His 2009 character was more "dangerous" and unstable but I prefer his 2007-2008 version pre-tattoos and shaved head. His promos were yet to become completely robotic and monotone even though he was already doing the slow speaking as soon as he introduced the punt in May and his ring work had not suffered yet from being too much "character work" with him walking around or moving super slow.



The 2007 character change was done so well. He had the hotel thrashing incident when they were overseas then he showed up the week after looking slightly smaller and cut a promo where he said he will get his career and life back on track and indeed, he did. He became more sadistic and pretty much threw away the cocky smirk and posing to become more callous.
