I think it's a false flag attempt but even if it isn't the media and Government would use it to their advantage to push their ideas.

Your congress has already shot down damn near every proposal for gun control, if Newtown didn't help any cause, nothing will. Just give everyone guns, and then gun lobbyist groups can start bringing out the good stuff like grenades and rocket launchers. If everyone had an RPG, that is just checks and balances.\
