  1. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

*champagne. And only if it was actually made in that region of France, otherwise it's just sparkling white.
  2. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Yeah but the two of you are wrong so what does it matter if you agree?
  3. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

yea, OR. it means you could be doing an exercise or playing a game, not necessarily involved in a sport. Still my point is the word athlete still applies. the word cheat can mean so many different things. there are many terms used that can mean different things and thoughts to different...
  4. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

You started this line of conversation now answer my question.
  5. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Would you spend a significant amount of money to do something you have no interest in doing just to prove a silly point?
  6. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

I would say no because it probably costs money and I would see no point is spending what would likely be no small chunk of change on something I have no interest in. But that is just me thinking logically.
  7. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Did you not you read where I disregarded the modern definition of sports entirely? I am merely using the current definition and its logic to show the foolishness of it. ath·lete Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ath-leet]Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun...
  8. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Call themselves an athlete. No, but under the modern definition of sport, Chess is a sport and therefore I am an athlete.
  9. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Which also for the record means that since my win/loss record in Chess is so high that I am a top athlete. Does that make any sense to any of you at all?
  10. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

I am just going to start referring to myself as an athlete from now on then. Seems anybody witha hobby or any kind of skill can do that.
  11. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

No that example would clearly be wrong. A very poor example. A better example would've been pool or darts.
  12. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

And clearly Blaze you have just as many people who say it is not a sport (if not more) than those who do.
  13. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

However my point has been made. Nascar requires no active physical exertion, and therefore is not sport. Not to mention the fact that the english language is being desecrated every single day.
  14. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

It is considered a sport by those who do not follow the proper meaning of sport rather the bastardization of the word.
  15. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

No because definitions being subjective is wrong. Things that are subjective are opinions. Not definitions of hings.
  16. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

Its all good dude. The way I see it is like this. If I wanted to I could likely go through the many dictionary sites available online or in a bookstore, and I will eventually find a definition for the word sport that agrees with my variation on the dictionary.com definition. Hell, look at the...
  17. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

The dictionary.com definition of Sport is thus; an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. That is a good start, but I'm big on specificity so I would have...

  19. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

It really comes down to modernity versus tradition, and the constant (de)evolution of the english language imo. As I stated in my example earlier, and you should be able to understand this more then most being a Brit. Tabloids are not news, yet somehow they are classified as such. Is it...
  20. Pit Road Fight Nascar Race

That is a modern definition of sport, not a traditional one. As much as I love chess, and consider it to be one of the greatest intellectual pursuits one can take part in, it is not a sport either no matter what people say. No, neither are sports. They are competitions.
