Not really, he is quite religious but he has dulled his views a lot over the past few years. Ten years ago he would have been a scary prospect as PM but now not so much. The good news here is that the PM doesn't hold that much power, it is more about the parties. Our last two PM's were dumped by their parties rather than by the voters.
Australian politics goes in cycles, the Labor party, who are in now and are likely to lose tomorrow, spend a lot on infrastructure but rack up massive debts. The Liberal party, lead by the conservative, come in and save and pay off debt and don't have money to spend on infrastructure. They compliment each other quite well.
