Lmaooo I feel like I've never heard that one referred to by that name but Smedley Butler is a legend.

"Hey we're gonna overthrow the government and you're our guy to take over"

"Did I ask for that?'
Just casually being like, "Mmm, could you say that closer to the microphone?"

It's what I wanted to happen every time on CK when one ruler would start a plot to overthrow me by establishing someone that liked me as a new ruler. I'd be like "why are you cool with this bro" lol

I also learned yesterday that there's a growing consensus upon historians that the Cathars were just fear mongering from the Catholics that were at the very least were embellished, but it seems pretty clear to me it was made up entirely lol I think it's one of those lies that just became accepted as truth until it became true. The last paragraph above is a summary of that theory, I can't believe people even entertain it could have been a real organization

There is academic controversy about whether Catharism was an organized religion or whether the medieval Church imagined or exaggerated it. The lack of any central organisation among Cathars and regional differences in beliefs and practices has prompted some scholars to question whether the Church exaggerated its threat while others wonder whether it even existed.

I started listening to "The Rest is History" podcast with Tom Holland (not that one) and Dominic Sandbrook. It's a lot of fun, but it's definitely one that's meant for people already pretty deep into stuff I would say. If I hadn't already listened through Hardcore History where Dan Carlin goes really in depth with a lot of topics, I don't think I'd get half of the random references they make.

A funny example that just gave me that realization is in an episode about communism, they mention the Anabaptist rebellion of Munster and give no details, just like "oh yeah that's a good example too" but thankfully Dan Carlin already did 5 hours on it so I know all I need to know about that situation :lol

Hear me out:

Why the fuck are Renaissance Fairs called Ren Fairs when their setting straight up isn't set during the Renaissance? Their settings are around the Mid-to-late Medieval period, specifically the 1220s to 1420s. The Renaissance Period, at least in Europe, begins in 1456 with the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans.

Change over time I think? In England a lot of them still are the actual Renaissance period, and the tradition started either there or Europe. Then once they got more popular, other time periods were done but the name wasn't changed. Medieval then became more popular than the original Renaissance period I think

All speculation on my part tho, I did no research lol
