I don't want to celebrate this. I hate that the largest company in the world and the company that people associate the phrase wrestling with is full of this bullshit. I hate that people who claim to morally great (Seth, Sami, and Punk) are stepping aside and not using their platforms and voices they love to talk about to call this shit out. I hate that people are going to boo this happening and still tune in the next night on Raw. I hate that WWE are erasing black and queer wrestlers and history from their company. I hate that the company that helped shape my entire life trajectory is a fascist propaganda machine.
Yeah, one of the main things that always come to me in situations like this is thinking about dudes like Punk, Zayn, KO, etc. I've criticized Punk plenty already for selling out. Really can't give a pass to the others at this point either. They're being put in bad spots by WWE to have to make a choice between their dreams and passions and their ethics. Generally I won't criticize average citizens for having to sell out to some extent to support themselves and families. In the case of top stars such as them, I still feel for them, but ultimately they do have alternatives and could make stands that could, to some degree, influence things, but they aren't. Okay, fair enough, you're prioritizing yourself and your family. But don't wake up in the morning and tell yourself and everyone else that your idendity is that of an ally to SA survivors, or the LGBTQ community, or that you stand for religious freedoms, or that you're ultimately any less greedy than the fucks that you supposedly have stood against for 40+ years of your life. In an ideal world, the whole company would be furious about shit like this, but damn, even the ones who are supposed to be majorly progressive are bullshitting these days.
