Afterall, the prestige of each belt has been dropping for some years now. Title matches don't usually feature on PPV and neither champion recieves any particular benefit from being champion.

Why not merge the belts and allow the champion to appear on each show? This way, the title would probably mean a little more.

Thoughts?

No way...There are way to many mid-card wrestlers for one title. They are doing the right thing by keeping the titles on different brands. There is still rumors going on about mergering the World Title and WWE. I don't have a problem with that. Because you only have a few guys that would always be in contention for it (Orton, Cena, Miz, Barrett, Kane, Mysterio, Edge, Del Rio). That list doubles/triples with the midcarders.

I understand that it would add more prestige if they were merged. One of the titles would probably mean something, which is a very good thing. I just don't see them turning into a good thing.

Merging the titles would open the dorrs to more competition for the secondary title, let's face it, Raw and Smackdown are full of midcarders and desperately need feuds, the US and IC champions have not been defending their belts, so merging them would give the champ more people to face on both shows.

I really hope that the Intercontinental and United States Titles aren't unified, I think it would be a really bad decision and would more than likely mean more Superstars jobbing rather than competition for one of the titles. I do have a feeling that it's very likely to happen though, knowing the WWE. I was thinking that it could actually happen at this years WrestleMania.

I don't think they need to go down this route yet. Yes the titles have been booked poorly for quite some time but WWE can turn that around. There are plenty of midcarders on both brands and therefore plenty of competition for the titles. Like TGS said, I would rather WWE merge the two top titles than the midcard titles. Merge the top two since there aren't enough maineventers and it makes that title more prestigious. Then some bigger stars will also be able to participate in the US, IC and even tag team title scenes making them stronger.

I don't think it needs to be unifed but they do need to start making title matches. I don't understand the booking of it, but hopefully it regains the composure. The last decent reign was Drew McIntyre and that wasn't even that great. Miz vs Morrison holding the titles were the best times in the past few years.

WWE shouldn't merge IC & US title..but merg the 2 top tiles n renamed it as WWE World Champion...Also i thin if they brought back tag titles for each brand it would make for more hype n competition on both shows for tag titles how ever if WWE was to do that..they need to bring in younger gyus who debute as a tage team..like back in the day when u had hardy boys, dudley boys, DX n such..more tag teams would be nice...more hype n push in the mid card scene would be better too..

If I was in charge of the company, I would have done a complete title merger a long time ago. One set of tag titles(which they've done), one women's title(which they've also done), merge the IC and U.S. title to be the new World Title, and keep the WWE title, likely with a different design though. Eliminates tiers but doing so would reintroduce prestige to the championships.

Or they could go the TNA route and have their own Global Championship, created from a merger of the IC and U.S. title. That would keep tiers intact.

Or just simply call it the Intercontinental Cahmpionship since it's a WWE staple and the US title is a WCW brainchild.

Yes I agree, that was going to be one of my points. To fully answer this question would take too long, as it would involve the fact that WWE need to cut the whole brand thing out, trim their roster even more, and do a serious overhurl of the PPV/Television line-up. Yes they never should have added the US in the first place as it was another promotions belt, and will always be more assicated with that company. Just focus on the IC belt, and push it as the second top title in the company, and make it a big part of each PPV, like it used to be.

The titles don't need to be merged if the WWE plays their cards right. These are just a few ways of increasing the secondary title prestige:
1. The secondary titles can be connected to a tense and interesting storyline, where two superstars would compete in the final PPV match for the title itself.
2. WWE can raise the prestige by creating huge competition for the titles (superstars can be midcarders).
3. A maineventer (who is already established as a maineventer) can hold the title for sometime.
4. The secondary title can be connected to the WWE Championship or the WHC by making a star hold the big championship and the secondary one at the same time. This doesn't have to go on for long.

I've been thinking about this. The WWE doesn't care about any other belt except the WWE and World Title. I don't even rememer the last time Bryan defended the US belt. Kofi has only defended the belt against Swagger that I know of, since he won it a while back.

I was against them merging the titles. But now who really cares anymore. I'm not liking where WWE is slowly heading.

Until WWE Creative decides to truly give the belts more attention then I say go for it. Gives it more prestige if you ask me, and they can focus on crowning a single mid-tier champion then two.

The people are right about the fact that the titles have no prestige whatsoever at this point, so merging might be a choice to think about for WWE. This way they can have a 3rd BIG title (after WWE and WHC titles), and possibly push out midcarders to the top one by one.
