Ryback addressed often made comparisons between himself and Bill Goldberg during an interview published in the latest issue of WWE Magazine. He said they don't bother him and that "people are misinformed."

"People see a big guy with a shaved head who's intense, and they draw those comparisons," said Ryback. "I will say this: Goldberg did this for the money. He was never a fan of wrestling. I do this because I have a passion for it, and that's the biggest difference between Goldberg and me. I'm not here to make five million dollars and then walk away. I'm here for life. And, I firmly believe that I'm much better than he was in the ring. He was great, and I was a fan of his when I was younger. But, I feel I'm a better athlete and wrestler than Goldberg ever was, and people are going to see that over time."
As far as the comparison it's pretty obvious that WWE wants him to be the 2012 Goldberg and that goes deeper than just his look. Can't say he is wrong about how he's more skilled than Goldberg though.

Why do I care if someone loves wrestling or not?

If they entertain me, thats all that matters, and Goldberg entertained me more than most. Never got these 'he doesn't love the business' people, like really who cares.

I can see how fans wouldn't care as I'm somewhat the same way (as far as them not being a diehard wrestling fan when they get into it) as long as they're good but it's not hard to see how a guy or girl who actually does it would care as it comes off as them using the business more than actually loving it.

I love it when I find out a wrestler I like is in it simple because they love it, and not just being in it for the money. Shows how passionate they are.

I do get tired of Smarks chanting "Goldberg!" at live shows.

Hopefully they'll let Ryback talk a little when he gets his first title push

Whole heartedly agree with this. Goldberg, Lesnar and Batista (I think) were three guys who I believe didn't love the business, but I bet many people here would want a combination of these three guys back if they could.

Also, Ryback can say whatever he wants about being better than Goldberg but the guy will always be compared to Goldberg and unless something shocking happens, won't be a shred of a draw that Goldberg was.

I agree with him on everything. It's true that they only think of Goldberg because he's big, bald, and intense. From what I've seen, he is better in the ring than Goldberg, and he has passion which is always needed. Cena would not be the poster boy if he didn't have the passion. You can say that passion for the business doesn't matter, but it does. A lot more than you think.

And also, Goldberg was not a draw in WWE. He was in WCW. I don't get how people always think he was a draw in WWE. Not saying Ryback is a draw, but he has a lot of potential to be.

Its not like Ryback being a huge draw is impossible. Goldberg had no mic skills, no ring skills, he had nothing just a great push and he got over, which means that anybody can get over.

"Better athlete than Goldberg ever was"

I've not really seen anything in the ring to prove this statement. And I guarantee that Goldberg will bring up being in the NFL as part of his Athletic past.

They did try for years to get Test over, but he was just a poor man's Kevin Nash anyways, and Nash never should have gotten over.

(sorry for the thread hijack)

I wonder if Goldberg will hold up the WWE for more money for a one off shot at Ryback at Wrestlemania. I wonder if WWE will be stupid enough to pay him. Based on how much money they threw at his ass back in '03 (?) I imagine they will.

I have been more impressed with Ryback than I ever was with Goldberg, he actually has a gimmick other than just ripping through superstars like wet paper bags, he tends to spend alot more time in his matches(not his entrance), and appears to understand pacing, aswell as ring psychology very well for being so green, things I never felt Goldberg ever learned.

All that being said, Ryback will draw the comparissons regardless. People remember the streak, not the in ring abilities. I want to see where all this goes, because I did buy into the hype of Goldberg in WCW, and Hall & Nash reuiniting to bring the streak to an end was a big moment(could have been used to push a guy like DDP instead) and I just hope that when the time comes for Ryback to finally lay down that something big will happen around it.

I'm not trying to be an ass but I can see how my comment may sound like it. But other than ripping through guys what is Rybacks gimmick? He's never spoken and all I've seen him do is tear through guys. As far as ring psychology his matches last on average under five minutes so I don't really get that either. I don't think he can be judged until he has a ten to fifteen minute match against someone above jobber level. I think I've seen him do this once against The Miz.

Goldberg's matches were generally under 3 minutes, so even if its only a couple extra minutes each match, I still am getting more of an opprotunity to see his abilities. He makes good use of the downed time, bringing the audience into it more. His opponents usually get in some kind of an offence, and does not no sell every attack, he actually makes you believe there might just be a weakness to him that could be exploited.

If I am not mistaken, Ryback is supposed to be a cyborg. The mechanical movements on his way to the ring, and his ring attire all lead me to this. It might not be the common idea of a gimmick, but in some way it reminds me of Lord Humongous, a subtle gimmick that fans of Mad Max understood.
