I was looking for a thread but I didn't find it so I figured I'd make this thread... and the first thing I wanna discuss is West Virginia. Because seriously I'm getting sick of hearing about how good West Virginia is. They are so good because they scored 70 points on Baylor. Because their QB threw for 8 TDs and wound up throwing for more TDs than incomplete passes in the game. I'm not knocking on their offense. I'm knocking on their defense which is what seems to be overlooked. They gave up 63 points in that game... to BAYLOR! An average team at best.

Everyone quick to discredit Baylor's defense and then give nothing but praise to West Virginia. What about Baylor's offense? They scored 63 points in a game. What about discrediting West Virginia's defense for giving up 63 points? That there shows that West Virginia isn't as good as they are being paraded to be. Their next game is going to be against Texas on the road. They are playing a team that has a much better defense than Baylor. They are able to score as well. I'm just hoping that this game exposes West Virginia because all of this coverage on their offense and dismissing that if they didn't score that many points they would have lost the game.

Also... SEC is gonna win the national title again this season :p

No one ever said West Virginia had a great defense. All the praise is for their offense, as it should be. Geno Smith has been a very good quarterback since he's taken over as their starter in 2010. People act like this is the first time West Virginia has ever had an explosive offense. Sure, it may go down as one of the most historic offenses in College Football History if they keep this up, but people tend to forget just how explosive they were with Steve Slaton and Pat White.

That's my point though. They only talk about their offense. They don't mention that their defense is so horrendous that they would collapse if they didn't score 70 points against an average Baylor team. I mean they are ranked number 8 in the nation. How? This team is not as good as they are being made out to be. I do question their offense though because Baylor's defense absolutely sucked. If they can show up and put up high numbers against Texas I'd be more inclined to agree that they have a top notch offense. Until then... its still debatable.

You don't need to talk about the defense whenever you put up those kinds of stats. This is the Big 12, the no-defense conference. Get ready for West Virginia to put up at least 40-points on Texas. If Ole Miss and Oklahoma State can put up 30+, West Virginia is going to put up even more on them.

You do when the average team puts up 63 against your defense. I'm a defense kind of minded guy. So when I see stuff like that... it just irks me. Its like... are we watching a practice game?

I'm a defensive minded guy too, but I know that most of the defenses in the Big 12 are below average, usually because of the offenses they have to go against. The game is built for offenses with the rules and it's something we're going to have to deal with for years and years. You can't hit a guy too hard or you'll get flagged. If we look at the pros, I can say that almost every single hit that gets a fine and a penalty, that was the exact way I was taught to tackle whenever I played football.

Unfortunately, they're trying to make a contact sport "safe", and it's going to take a lot of way from those who love defense.

Casual fans don't want to see 7-0, 14-7 scores and those are the people they're trying to cater to.

Kinda like last season when LSU played in Alabama. And the score was 9 - 6 in OT I was like... MANNNN that was a game. That was a good game. And then you had all these other people talking about how the game was boring and how it needed more offense...

Its like the SEC is about defense and so it is extremely hard to get those high scoring games. I'd much rather watch a game like that then some 70 - 63 game between two ranked teams. But yeah that's what is happening. They are trying to make the game "safe" and it's messing up the game. But the SEC still manages to get things done right. SEC for life man. They got the defense that makes games interesting while those other "fans" can go watch teams that don't have a bit of defense to them.

Being serious, I'll probably be more of a troll in this thread than I should be mainly because the only college I ever watch is Texas teams and you guys seem to know enough that I can't bullshit my way through talking about other teams like I do with most casual college football fans.

Absolutely.

That game, for me, was one of the best games I've seen in a long time and than you have people who don't really follow college football say "Man, that game was so bad. No one could score".

Its like in the NFL... you rarely ever see teams score that much but how many people are going to say... mannn that game sucked they couldn't score. But in college that is what they say. But in the NFL if a team torches them for like 50+ the question goes to the defense that got torched. Praise for the offense but they question the defense. In college... its praise the offense but say nothing about the defense.

Well that first game was great, The National Championship game was like Football Porn. LSU not getting past the 50 until the Forth Quarter when the game was already in hand was incredible. I may not like the Man but Nick Saban earned all the respect I could possibly give for that one. Now I am excited at the love of Defense in this thread. Most of you probably don't know that I coached Linebackers on the Collegiate Level for 3 years and the High School Level for 1 before deciding it wasn't a real career for me.

I couldn't be happier that LSU lost, team is pretty bad this year, but all the blind fans continue to think they're the best, so I can't wait to make fun of them.

My friend is LSU through and through and he admits that his team played horribly and that they need to fix their QB issue. And Auburn... man alive... what were we playing? Dodgeball? Golf? Cause it surely wasn't football. But to see the number 3,4, and 5 team go down... really gonna shake things up. SO GLAD that Florida State lost though. That was the biggest highlight of the night.

But Scott... you coached? Mannn that is awesome. But yeah I'm definitely a defensive minded kinda guy. And I can't stand Alabama... but Nick Saban's style of coaching... that is the style I like. No nonsense hardcore defense. Whenever I play NCAA football... even if we have a lead... we are going for the shutout every game and looking to stop each and every drive. Like going for negative rushing yards. I have the number 1 defense every season. But right now... national championship looks to be Alabama vs. Oregon. Oregon's offense is just so fast... but Bama's defense is so dominant.
