Only a few days to go before NZ finds out whether we can move to level 2 and stuff can start reopening properly. This week so far we've had 0, 0 and 2 new cases each day so it's looking good :mark:

As of today here in the state of Florida, we have like 38, 828 positive cases of the virus. And 1,600 deaths. No recoveries as well. Some people are also committing suicide to boot due to being out of work and not being able to go to school. I am fine, my mom is all better from her sickness, just waiting for my relative to get recover from it. Since being out of the of job temp from my retirement center, I have been obeying orders. If I have to go to the store, I will go but wear a bandana over my mouth and nose. Same case for some of my family. I still been working out but inside of my house and in my forest in the back. Got some weed to calm my nerves.

Just staying positive.

Ya really want Ole Swamps to bring some actual logic to this thread, or are you happy with people just crying and posting propaganda that can be easily disproved? Remember, one guy even said this thing is killing 10,000s of people a day in this same thread. If you want me to back out because I may ruffle up a few feathers, just say so bro, and I'll go back to the wrestling topics and play nice. Now if you want me to bring in my actual views (most aren't very different from yours), I'll back it up with Science and Logic, homie, and not CNN slander pieces and Yahoo Doom and Gloom nonsense.

Standing by, g. :)

Hey, that was me! Go me!

Think I probably said this for hyperbole (welcome to a world of media propaganda and misdirection!).

So by way of correction, because I'm fully aware that each of us live in our own media bubbles (myself, I'm a bbc news guy because it seems to be the most reliable source in the UK) and because I'm genuinely interested in researched opinion that's contrary to my own.

Here are the current figures, as of yesterday, from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/geographical-distribution-2019-ncov-cases)

Total declared world wide cases: 3 713 796
Total declared world wide deaths: 263 288
This range is from December 31st to 7th of May, which is 129 days, this results in a average of 2041 deaths per day world wide.
The current death rate based on declared cases and deaths is approximately 7.1%
The highest number of deaths world-wide was on 16th of April. This is the only single day to top 10,000 reported deaths. And this was not by many.

According to wikipedia (yep, I know, but it's easily accessible and with the current media purge on lies around COVID19 I'm happy to go with it for this) COVID19 is approximately the 50th most deadly disease but, to put it in perspective, Spanish Flu is ranked at 53 with a (greater than) 2.5% mortality rate. COVID19 has a 7.03% mortality rate (this is from May 2nd, my figure above is based on yesterday).

Approximately 17-50 million people died of Spanish Flu. The world population in 1918 was under 2 billion people and approximately 500 million of them were confirmed as carrying the disease. The current world population is 7.8billion people.

The CDC estimates that there have been 24,000 and 62,000 Flu deaths in the US between October 1 2019 and April 4 2020. (186 days)
Between 4th of March and today there have been 76,537 confirmed deaths of (or related to) COVID19 in the USA. (65 days)

Things to bare in mind:
  1. Different Countries have different definitions and capacities for testing and death reporting - the UK, until recently, was only counting hospital deaths for example.
  2. People will manipulate reporting to suit their narrative: i.e there are no easily accessible facts on reputable sources declaring "survival" or "recovered" numbers.
  3. The whole world has been in lockdown, slowing the spread of the disease.

So, "facts" out of the way, my personal take: Yes, it's just another flu, but one that is far more deadly than the regular strain. This is why it's such a problem, flu spreads easily and this is deadly.

The current world population is currently around 4 times that of 1918. Which means people are physically closer together, which aids transmission.

Sure, in theory I've got a 92.*whatever*% chance of surviving based on just the current figures. But my parents are old and I have children. I don't want to take or expose them to the risk. Especially given that we don't yet have full accurate figures on just how deadly this is (and probably never will based on particular governments tendancies towards propaganda rather than transparancy).

The death and infection rates may be slowing worldwide at the moment but that's because the vast majority of people have been staying at home or in proper lockdowns - we don't know what's going to happen when lockdowns are lifted but the obvious conclusion is that, as cases are still being confirmed now, that the infection rates will rise again as people start venturing out.

@Stan Smith - yes, I'd like you to bring some logic to the thread, not to cause an argument, but because you seem to not care about this too much and because you back your arguments up with research.

*Sign* I can see you already forgot who I was from PWF, haha. Well, here is a reminder for ya.

So, here you go chicken little (The sky is fallin', y'all!)

You know what, I'll let the guy quoting off NPR, etc do my talking, since I'm spent from working today.

Wait, it was over exaggerated!? It's being back by science? Sat it isn't so! This is even from the UK? Oh man! More than 60% of the new cases are from people staying at home!? It is almost as if Sunlight and O2 have a natural way of killing bacteria! If only our "High School" teachers taught us that! Wait, they did. So did our middle school teachers, hmmm.

Here go another interesting one for ya's. If you like to talk about hyperbole in news, since that has been very common by the chicken littles in this thread.

Hell, why not another cuz this guy is hilarious.

Another? Ok, you got it, ole chap!

Hmmmmm....

Wait, why would facebook censor the truth!? Oh yeah, because of the people who frequent it don't like hearing the truth. Here you go by the way.

By the way, your dictator comments in a post earlier was hilarious. When the Central Government gives the states the options to perform there own methods, its a Republic/Democracy and not a Dictatorship. Pretty sure we were taught the difference in like 3rd grade. Yeah, that terminology gets thrown around too much by those who wear man buns and drink soy milk.

I'll watch these in the morning before giving a considered response but, for the record, the figures I used in that post were from the CDC and the European equivalent. I don't live in the US or watch US news channels, so the "fake news" stuff isn't something I've been influenced by. I also don't do Facebook.

My (current) opinion is based on the figures for confirmed cases and deaths being announced globally.

I also haven't seen any figures relating to the percentage of new cases coming from people staying at home - my first thoughts to explain this would be related to an incubation period, people not actually staying at home and that people with the symptoms are (in the UK at least) told to "self isolate" and are some of the few eligible for testing... which kind of guarantees that any confirmed new cases will come from those staying at home regardless of where they caught the disease.

But, it'll be interesting to see what the other side of the thought process is... Like I said, I'll watch the videos before giving an actual response.

The LITERALLY Trump-funded Project Veritas is pretty much in-line with InfoWars so don’t go bringing that bullshit in here, or people defending it in here, stating it as fact. They're about as reputable as PragerU or Turning Point USA.

It’s a good thing FB is taking down their stuff, cause it spreads misinformation, which is super dangerous amid a pandemic. Secondly, your freedom of speech doesn't allow you the right to make baseless accusations on social media without consequence or having your content taken down.

If there indeed is bad reporting from CBS, then shame on them. All misinformation, no matter the source, is bad. But, I think it slaps in the face of frontline workers and medical personnel who are putting their lives on the line in states like Washington and New York to fight the virus.

So, I watched the first video - the rest looked like the "fake news, horror(!)" stuff that didn't exist in the mainstream (i.e non-conspiracy circles) until Donald Trump got voted in and are about things I don't see, so I ignored them.

My thoughts on the first video, as I had them:

(Daily Mail article) Was the lockdown a waste of time or the wrong thing to do? My thoughts: if we do our job well, that's preventing the spread of the disease, then isn't that the question that would be asked because the extreme results didn't materialise?

Dude provides no evidence for the 66% of people getting sick being at home or, as importantly, the circumstances surrounding them (yes, they are at home when it's confirmed, but can anybody confirm that they were at home when they were infected?) - my opinions from my above post stand on this. I'll happily change them if there's evidence from a reputable source that says that these people (whatever the percentage) got infected whilst at home and not in contact with anybody from the outside world.

Emergency hospitals: prepare for the worst, hope for the best. I'm sure in the US this would be "pray" for the best but neither praying nor hoping actually do anything. Countries prepared for the worst case scenario with field hospitals and put measures in place to try and prevent that occuring...but, because those stay at home measures worked theres an issue with the field hospitals existing, or being too large? - this guy doesn't even agree with himself, saying that the field hospitals cost too much money and were an overreaction but that it's good that they were built and weren't used?? Either they shouldn't be there or they should be there (at which point the cost is irrelevant).

The first video seems to be based around this guys opinion backed up by two images of "stories from the UK" in the Daily Mail, which (as with every tabloid) uses hyperbole and confirmation bias to sell itself. It's sole purpose is to make money. For a website that money comes from subscriptions or advertisments which pay out based on hits... (what was it Eric Bischoff said?)

He seems to base a chunk of his opinion around a (not shown) study in the UK? I live in the UK and, in my area at least can confirm that social distancing is only partially happening - there were street parties last night for VE day for example and people are just stopping on the street to talk to each other well within touching distance. I'd estimate around a quarter of the houses on my row are having visitors each and every day, possibly more. Yes that's a small sample size, but it's what I can see with my own eyes.

For the first three years of his (Trumps) presidency the economy was the best America has seen, the guy then flat out says that this makes Trump the best guy to fix the economy once this is over. Which then implys that everything Obama put into place stopped IMMEDIATELY when Trump was voted in? Politics in the US works that quickly? It sure doesn't over here.

NPR appears to be funded by the government? As a consipiracy theory you know better than to use this as evidence, right? - seven minutes or so of this video are dedicated to this guy reading stats from this site, mainly figures about field hospital usage, which I've already discussed above.

I'm still curious where this guys "science" is coming from - because he didn't actually quote or read any published, peer reviewed papers... he just looked at some websites that are extrememly suspect (and in the case of the Daily Mail, definitly biased), read them out and said "stands to reason" a lot.

On the first ammendment - to quote: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Does this over-ride the need to prevent a global pandemic (with a death rate of approximately 7% of those infected) spreading?

Like I say, my thoughts on the video as I had them - none of this changed my mind because there's no reputable evidence here.
