At UFC 143 on Saturday, Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit fought five rounds for the UFC Interim Welterweight title, with Condit winning the unanimous decision. The outcome was controversial, with Diaz, along with many fans, fighters, and media members feeling that his constant forward pressure was enough to win a clear decision.

At the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said he was open to the possibility of a rematch, but made it clear that both parties had to be eager to fight. As Diaz was so maddened by the decision that he announced his retirement immediately post-bout in the Octagon, and because yesterday Condit's camp indicated they were not interested, there was little hope that the rematch would be made.

However, sources close to the deal just confirmed with The Underground that Carlos Condit has accepted a rematch with Nick Diaz, with the UFC Interim Welterweight title again on the line.

Condit said 'Yes, I accept the rematch' and will be in Las Vegas on Thursday to finalize the deal.

The winner will presumably face GSP for the Unified Welterweight title, when the Canadian recovers fully from knee surgery, which is expected to be around November.

It's unclear at this time as to when the rematch will take place, but it looks like the fans have got what they asked for.

Dana must of offered Condit some of that Anderson Silva money to make this happen again

Wow, yeah.

Condit has some balls, man.

He didn't have to do this at all, could of just got his big shot at GSP and left Diaz in the lurch.

Good call and I think it will get some of the haters off of Condit a bit.

Honestly though I changed my tune, and after watching the fight again, Condit did win based on the 10 point system. Not a fan of how he won but based on how the rules are set up he landed more strikes which pretty much won him the fight. Though he won it 48-47 IMO not the 49-46.

Basically he can do the same thing again and win, and really why shouldn't he. Diaz only wins if he doesn't stand and bang, he's got to take the fight to the ground.

To legitimize this a little bit Carlo's manager just tweeted this

@malkikawa Well, the powers to be just called. @CarlosCondit and myself will be in Vegas and hope to have a big announcement on fri... :)

Could mean anything, but just looking around on twitter and different news sites everything points to Carlos-Diaz signing for a rematch.

Agreed, extremely ballsy by Condit.

I have to wonder though whether or not Dana just hooked this up so he could get Diaz "back out of retirement" as opposed to booking it due to the controversy.

Yeah, it looks a bit transparent by the UFC.

It's like they didnt get the result they wanted so they just do it again.....what happens if Diaz wins a close fight this time?

Condit's been fucked around so badly this past year.

I don't know what but something happened here, the UFC confirmed the rematch and everything then Diaz's camp came out today and said it was off but wouldn't say why or anything.

After Re-Watching Diaz vs. Condit Joe Rogan Concedes That Diaz Won

Going back to the Diaz/Condit fight, my point about missing things, is I watched the fight at home and when I watched the fight at home, I had a slightly different opinion. When I watched it live I thought that Carlos Condit won it. In the fourth round I said that Condit was winning this fight and when I said that, I was a little bit out of school, because on the scorecards maybe necessarily he wasn’t winning, in my head even, but, there was a trend in round three and four where Condit was scoring way more than Diaz was, that’s why I was saying that Condit was winning that fight. The bottom line is when I watched it at home I gave Nick Diaz round one, round two and round five. At home when I watched it, I thought Nick Diaz won that fight.”

I havent watched it back but the only round I thought was close was R3, first 2 were clearly Diaz on strikes, and the last 2 were clearly Condit on kicks.

A lot of people value the takedowns in MMA too much, Diaz did nothing with it and got outstruck by a lot that round (5).

A cloud of controversy seems to follow Diaz in this sport, and speculation erupted as to why Diaz was not fighting. The most obvious reason for a manager to threaten to pull out of a money-making rematch is money - a tactic to leverage more money from the fight.

But that theory is flatly contradicted by Cesar's tweet to White.

In the case of Nick Diaz, it has not escaped the hardcore fanbase's attention that a possible, even probable reason he can't fight is because he tested positive for marijuana, again. In 2007 when Diaz failed a recreational drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Comission, he was suspended for six months, fined $3,000, and a spectacular defeat of Takanori Gomi was declared a No Contest. Rumors that it has happened again are on virtually every message board in the space.

Diaz has not made a secret of his use of marijuana, which is decriminalized in California.

"I'm more consistent about everything being a cannabis user," Diaz said in a 2009 interview with The LA Times. "I'm happy to get loaded, hear some good music . . . I remain consistent ... I can pass a drug test in eight days with herbal cleansers. I drink 10 pounds of water and sweat out 10 pounds of water every day. I'll be fine."

As it stands, the most obvious reason for Nick Diaz' manager saying he is out for the rest of the year without offering an explanation is a positive test for marijuana.

Marijuana seems an unlikely aid to performance in a fight sport. Great for watching reruns of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, but for trying to make another man tap, nap, or snap in a cage, not so much.

However, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive officer Keith Kizer explained the reasoning in 2009. The issue is not whether mairijuana is legal or not, or whether recreational use is positive or negative. The issue is whether you should be high as a kite when you fight.

"Obviously marijuana and alcohol can change your reflexes, slow them down, so you can get injured," said Kizer. "Or it could numb the pain so you don’t realize you’re hurt. That’s why we don’t let fighters, for example, to have cortisone shots into their back or into their hand before they fight because they can not realize they’re hurt and they keep fighting and the next thing you know they’re permanently damaged."

It's not confirmed that he failed a post fight drug test, i guess we'll know everything there is to know tomorrow. Carlos and his manager are still going to Vegas to speak with Dana, and then why Diaz suddenly couldn't fight Condit anymore is expected to leak out.
