No real reason, just that it was 20 years ago, and arguably my favorite year behind 2000 and the first 6 months of 2001. I tried to watch PWG 2016 but in the first match, dudes were kicking out of triple powerbombs, burning hammers and a fuckin' Steiner screwdriver at 1. so I turned it off. ECW 1999 will probably be started sometime soon; alright let's get it.

WWF Monday Night RAW: Episode 192
January 6th, 1997
Albany, New York

The Show opens with a small promo from Vader, he says he’s going to end Bret Hart tonight; they then show clips of Shotgun Saturday Night debut

Owen Hart (w/Clarence Mason) vs. Mankind (w/Paul Bearer)
Real fun match, Owen goes on the aggressive early and tries to end it early by going for the sharpshooter; but Mankind reaches the ropes. Mankind then takes over with a back elbow and begins ripping at Owens face. Both men go back and forth until Mankind grabs a steel chair the same time Owen grabs one of his slammy’s. He nails Mankind first before front suplexing him onto the steel rail. He;s not done as he grabs one of his tag belts and again hits him in the midsection with it. LOOOOOOOOOOL The ref just watches and allows all of this to happen. Owen begins smartly working the midsection; as Vince says both these men will be in the Royal Rumble match. Owens does a good job, wearing him down but as soon as it goes back to the floor that allows Mankind to hit Owen in the head with a plastic tray just laying on the floor lolwat as we go to a WWF Full Metal CD promotion commercial :lmao Once we return Owen counters out of the claw with a spinkick, but he misses a charge and goes shoulder first into the ring post allowing Mankind to hit a pilerdiver for the win. Great way to kick off the year, and the night. **3/4

Backstage: Shawn Michaels, Jose Lothario and Joe’s Son Pete are in Shawn’s locker room. Jose says he’s doing a lot better and he will remain in HBK’s corner; Pete says in Texas we don’t play that game, and if Sid comes near his father again at the Rumble he will get involved. Shawn says he’s upset him and he can’t wait to hear Sid’s interview, he says he will be on commentary for Bret’s match tonight and he gives him his word he will not interfere.

Shotgun Saturday Night debut highlights.

Honky Tonk Man comes out to do commentary.

Fake Razor & Fake Diesel vs. Doug Furnas & Phillip Lafon
This is what it is, Fakes are fuckin’ awful, don’t worry Kane only 8 months to go. Doug and Phil bump around and make this watchable but it’s just a long parody of Diesel and Razor moves. This went on way too long I get them trying to stick it to Hall and Nash but to have this go 16 minutes is punishing us, you idiots. Lafon’s hot tag is dope as they hit a spinebuster/clothesline off the top for the win. *1/2

Next Week: Goldust/Mero vs. Hunter/Lawler

Backstage: Vince interviews Bret Hart, Bret says if Shawn wants to sit at ringside he hopes he sticks his nose in his business so he can take care of it. As for Vader, he’s big and stupid and when this thing comes down to the final seconds, VADER IS GONNA MAKE ONE MISTAKE………..SUDDENLY Sid’s music his and Bret is pissed so he leaves.

In the ring; JR interviews WWF Champion Syscho Sid; JR asks him at the Rumble their will be 72 thousand people cheering the hometown boy, he asks him how he;s feeling going into such hostile territory. Sid says JR hasn’t got a clue, he’s not intimidated by nothing this is his dying field, you have had to do the kicking not be kicked. See, at the rumble the day I was born I was born THE MAN! Shawn, you can never have that claim even if it’s in your hometown, I’m gonna walk in the man, and I’m going to walk out the man. BECAUSE I AM THE MASTER AND I AM THE RULER OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!! Shawn Michaels and Jose Lothario come out for commentary, Shawn climbs on the table ad starts undressing like a smurf, so Sid starts laughing. He says see, this is why I do the things I do. So right now, I want to apologize for what I’m about to do because I’m not going to be responsible. HAHAHAHAHA!

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Vader
Vader waste no time bring the amazing corner punches, lighting Bret up. They brawl on the floor with Bret getting the upper hand first by sending Vader shoulder first into the steel steps; back in Bret goes to work on Vader’s arm to stop the punches and Vader power moves. Vader pretty much no sells because he’s fuckin Vader :lmao he brings teeing off as we get a shot of Steve Austin watching backstage on a TV. Shawn pretty much shits on Bret the whole time on commentary. Vader hits this AWESOME splash off the middle rope which looks like Bret gets murdered on, but that only gets a two count. He drags Bret to the other corner and goes for a moonsault, but the ref talks him down into a Vaderbomb attempt but as he’s taken too much time that allows Bret to get the knees up, Bret begins his comeback to which Shawn shits on him saying it’s same all the time………Damn, who the fuck is the heel/face in this feud? Bret goes for a crossboady but Vader catches him, but the momentum is too much and both men tumble over the top to the floor. Sid then comes out and drags a camera man to the back with him, Austin then runs past as Vader has the ref distracted, Austin hits Bret with a stunner. Vader hits Bret with the Vader Bomb in the ring to win. Pretty good until the fuckery, but it makes sense with all the feuds going on. **3/4

Backstage: Sid is assaulting Joes’ son Pete, he powerbombs him on a table and Shawn bails from commentary. Shawn is PISSED! He calls him a chicken shit and begins swearing, so the Audio is cut out :lmao

WWF Monday Night RAW: Episode 193
January 13th, 1997
Albany, New York

Hunter Hearst Helmsley & Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Marc Mero & Goldust (w/Sable & Marlena)
Brawl to start with the babyfaces coming out on top, as Lawler and Hunter regroup on the floor. Mero/Lawler start, Lawler stalls a shit ton but makes up for it in his hilarious facial expressions and attempts at cheating only to backfire; this is more of an angle match as Mero is in this way too much and whenever Goldust tags in Hunter runs and bails, like I said the heat in mero went on way too long and isn’t good at all, it lacked crowd heat, selling but Hunter and Lawler did a good enough job at cutting the ring off and cheating. Great moment, it when Goldust hot tags in Lawler scrabbles to his corner with Goldust behind him but Hunter “jumps off the apron to talk shit to the fans” playing off like he didn’t see it. Mero tags back in and immediately fails and the heels are back on top, eventually Goldust got in. He keeps punches and shoved the ref back so the ref calls for the DQ. After the match; Mero tries to pull Goldust back, so Goldust decks him and Hunter and Lawler bail *1/2 - *3/4

Sycho Sid is in the middle of the Alamo Dome; he says see, over a hundred years ago. A great German philosopher, said, in the act of fighting monsters and the procedure to be sure you don’t become a monster yourself. But in the Alamodome, I will have to be the monster to take what is mine, to walk out the WWF champion and I think Shawn Michaels would say the same thing. But as the battle progresses and at the right moment, I reach out Shawn and have you by your throat. THE LOOK YOU WILL GIVE TO ME will be obvious for over ere at ringside will be your mother. And she would know that look too. And all the way over here will be Jose, he knows that look too, but this time, he won’t get on the apron. Because he knows better. And then someone told me that this section over here was gonna be mothering but your friends from your hometown. Shawn, but they will see that look too. And, Jose, you are gonna summon all of the Mexicans from Mexico and all above here, there will be 70,000 of them. And even at the highest seat in the roof, he will know that look too. And that look says it all, it says Sid you are the man, YOU’RE THE MASTER AND THE RULER OF THE WORLD!

Shawn Michaels in park place with fans, Shawn says Sid has brought out the monster in him, he will get nasty with him. He can be nice, but now he’s nasty and he’s gonna kick his teeth in. He says unlike the Lothario family, he can fight back, and he's going to do that at the Rumble. He says all his friends and family will fill the Dome, and Sid will be the most hated man in the building. He says Sid can be the master and ruler of all he wants, but he won't be the WWF Champion. Vince then asks him if he feels the pressure, Shawn says he doesn’t let people down, he knows he delivers like no one else does.

Bret Hart limps down to the ring to do commentary.

Footage air, on WWF Superstars Austin Pillmanizing Bret Hart.

The British Bulldog (w/Clarence Mason) vs. Rocky Maivia
Bret puts over, Rock by saying he has the most talent of a rookie he’s ever seen before and he has the brightest future in the WWF right now. Bulldog does a good job carrying Rock in the early going, letting Rock do all the basic babyface 101 armdrags and counters. Owens Hart comes out to stand guard and make sure Bret doesn't interfere. Bulldog takes over, and that's solid he doesn’t really work on a body part he just wears down Rock with holds or hits a big power strike like a clothesline whenever he feels Rocky making a comeback. They both go out to the floor at a point, as Austin comes down and chop blocks Bulldog behind the ref's back. Bret goes over and Owen, who had his back turned to this, thinks Bret is trying to interfere. Bret hobbles to the back after Austin, and Owen follows. Rocky rolls back in at 9 and wins by countout. *3/4

Backstage: The Nation of Domination are standing by, Vince asks them it’s gonna be everyman for themselves at the rumble, correct? Faarooq says not correct because in order to have a nation you have you be unified and that’s what he nation is all about unity. Vince asks Crush about his match with Taker tonight, he says he will do whatever it takes but any means necessary. WE WILL DOMINATE!

The Undertaker vs. Crush (w/The Nation of Domination)
Taker jumps the nation because it’s 5 on 1 so why not jump them and it works, this is pretty much a Taker showcase, just like his entire WWF run so far he's carrying sacks of shit and makes them look way better than they are. IDK if it’s because these Raw’s are an hour long or is it an hour and half with commercials, the matches are going 10 minutes minimum and I swear some of these guys can barley go 10. I know I’m the guy that loves the in ring, but Crush going 10 is a terrible idea his stalling after every move and staring just to fill 5 seconds is just awful, It gets worse as the match goes on. Takers bumps for it tho, he makes a comeback and hits the Chokeslam but the Nation and Vader run in for the DQ. After the match; the assault continues until Ahmed MOTHERFUCKIN’ JOHNSON runs down to save with a 2x4, he’s wearing the most washed tracksuit I’ve ever seen, shit looks like he’s washed it 69 times in a row. Anyway, he fails and the numbers game is too much as the Nation stand tall to end the show. *

WWF Royal Rumble
January 19th, 1997
The Alamo Dome; San Antonio, Texas

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Goldust (w/Marlena) vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley (w/Mr. Hughes)
I have no idea why Hunter has Mr. Hughes with him, JR says Hunter told him that he’s proud of his new butler :lmaolmao:lmao Goldust doesn’t wait until Hunter even make it to ringside as he meets him on the entrance way jumps him from there. The early portion is all Goldust and Hunter taking some great mid-card level bumps; this suffers a lot from a dead crowd which is a shame and unwarranted as the in-ring action is really good, it’s not mind blowing amazing but everything is really solid. Hunter is cheating while Goldust is super aggressive. The ref allows Goldust to not only slam the blue steel steps on only on his back, before slamming it on his knee too. Back in the ring, and Goldust targets the knee, Hunter’s selling is AWESOME! But the structure of the match is way off it feels like Goldust is the heel with the controlling and Hunters comeback is super babyface like, during the match some geek interviews another geek and he tries to sing, the match is that trash that we have to get an in-match-promo :lmao The match turns into a back and forth affair with both men trying to hit big moves, but neither can connect so they take turns just exchanging counters. Mr. Hughes throws in the IC title, but Marlena makes out with Hunter allowing Goldust to recover and then nails Hunter with the IC title, but during the cover, Hughes pulls Hunter to the floor. Goldust knocks Hughes to the floor and Marlena spits cigar ash in his eyes, Goldust is distracted and does see Hunter comeback in and nails him with a clothesline; he then hits the Pedigree and covers for the win. Everything was solid but just weird and the dead crowd did this no favors’ along with it being 15 minutes. **3/4

Pre-tape interview: Bret says, people are talking about how he’s going into this Rumble as a marked man, but that’s nothing new, he’s always been a marked man. And at this rumble can’t go any further back because he’s taken too many steps back.

Pre-tape interview: Mankind says, people see the Rumble as an opportunity to get a shot at the WWF title, but he sees it as a chance to hurt a lot of people. It’s gonna be a nice day.

Faarooq (w/The Nation of Domination) vs. Ahmed Johnson
Ahmed’s theme song still rings off, IDK what it is but every time I hear it I can’t help but nod my head; Ahmed races down from the entrance way and the match is on, and the match goes all downhill from here. Faarooq's attack on the back and kidneys is pretty great, Ahmed sells well enough during the attack to make me almost believe a punt to the kidney can “almost lose your life” Thanks WWF. He then forgets it and acts like the match just started. Ahmed seems to have this won, but the Nation attack for the DQ. After the mach; Ahmed cleans house and chances Faarooq up the ramp, one of the Nation guys stops him from getting to Faarooq and Ahmed stalks him back down to ringside; he slams his head into the steps and delivers the PEARL RIVER PLUNGE THROUGH THE FRENCH ANNOUNCE TABLE. *

Pre-tape interview: Terry Funk says, there are faster wrestlers, bigger wrestlers, stronger wrestlers and younger wrestlers in the rumble. But this is my state, and I was born to rumble.

Backstage: Todd Pettengill interviews The Nation; he says this war is no over; Faarooq cuts him off and embarrasses this thot and geek with glasses for not fighting for him. He says tonight was just the beginning and he will see him in the rumble, you Uncle TOM!

Vader vs. The Undertaker
SUPER AWESOME SLUGFEST BRAWL TO START, as both men trade rights with one another, I love that this is the first time in Vader’s career we’ve seen him fear another man. But he doesn’t back down right away, he keeps dishing out power moves and strikes that normally put down a normal man but Taker keeps sitting up, after the 3rd sit-up Vader bails to have words with the ref who is still on the floor after Taker did the ref threat spot :lmao Taker controls the match but during old school Vader has it scouted and shakes his leg crotching Taker onto the top rope, he again low blow blows him as again we cut to some geek fan tell us that she use to stalk HBK and babysat her way to buy these tickets, this is crowd shot level no fucks. Vader’s offense isn’t the best here, he uses a lot of rest holds and flying belly strikes. But Taker’s mini-comebacks along with the main comeback is pretty great, and as usual, Vader was amazing at bumping for Taker. Paul Bearer walked down to the ring with the urn the same time Taker nails Vader with a chokeslam; TAKER THEN NAILS PAUL BEARER! And has him in position for the chokeslam but sees Vader coming in and breaks the hold to go back at Vader, they brawl on the floor, and Taker goes for a flying leap off the steps but Paul pulls Vader out of the way and Taker crashes mid-section first into the steel rails. The ref deals with Vader, and Bearer hits Taker with the urn! Vader pulls him in, and Vader hits the Vader Bomb for the win. After the match; Vader and Paul leave, Taker recovers and argues with the ref. He chokeslams the ref because he’s a sore loser, he then trashes the ringside area and gets in Vince’s face. Super fun, but they would have a much better match later in the year. **3/4

Backstage: Steve Austin is walking around when a cameraman runs up to him, he says he’s not talking to anyone until he throws 29 other pieces of trash over the top rope and advances to WrestleMania.

Earlier today; The British Bulldog is making his way into the arena and he says he’s gonna make history when he wins.

Jerry Estrada, Heavy Metal & Fuerza Guerrera vs. Héctor Garza, Perro Aguayo & Canek
If you think the crowds don’t give a shit about 205 today, this is even worse you can legit hear a pin drop of that one geek trying to whistle. I legit just think this is here because WWF is either trying to do WCW and or because they are in Texas home of the Mexican’s according to Sid. Not gonna lie I don’t know who any of these guys are outside of Heavy Metal because I’ve seen him in TNA 2003/2004. This is choreographed to the tee, shit looked either practiced to shit or they’ve done this same match like 69 times. They’re blatantly waiting for strikes, the moves and when it’s time to get in. Aguayo hit Metal with a Double Stomp off the top to win. *1/2

Howard Finkle announces the crowd attendance tonight is 60,477.

Royal Rumble Match
Crush is #1, Ahmed and his amazing kneepads on his highs are #2; trash for 90 seconds, Fake Razor is #3 Ahmed throws him out :lmao Faarooq shows up and Ahmed smartly jumps over the top and chases him to the back, I guess he’s too dumb to know the rules or even more stupider just not to roll under the bottom rope like everyone else. The clock is broken according to Vince so we don’t get a countdown instead, music just hits lol. Phineas Godwinn is #4, more trash. STEVE AUSTIN IS #5 :mark: Godwinn throws Crush out, but turns into the Stunner, and Austin tosses him too. Bart Gunn is #6 they botch a standing leg drop, then Bart botches going over the top so Austin clotheslines him over the top. Austin does push-ups as he waits, then sits on the top turnbuckle and looks at the watch on his wrist tape :mark: Jake Roberts is #7 and goes right to work, working over Austin’s arm. British Bulldog is #8 during his entrance Austin throws Jake out :( Pierroth is #9, The Sultan is #10, Mil Mascaras is #11, Hunter is #12. Bulldog clotheslines Sultan out; Owen Hart is #13 Bulldog is trying to push Austin out, and Owen pushes them both, but only Bulldog goes over and is eliminated. Owen says it was an accident and Bulldog is mad. Goldust is #14 and he goes right to Hunter.

Cibernetico is #15, Marc Mero is #16 Pierroth throws out Cibernetico, Mil throws out Pierroth, and stupidly dives over the top to him, eliminating himself :lmaolmao:lmao Goldust clotheslines Hunter out. Latin Lover is #17 as Owen clotheslines Goldust out. Faarooq is #18 he eliminates the Latin Lover and has a nice brawl with Austin; Ahmed runs back out with a 2x4 and nails Faarooq, with it knocking him over the top. He then chases him to the back and we get a replay of Austin throwing out Mero and Owen. Austin is the last man standing again, Savio Vega is #19 but gets thrown out by Austin. Jessie James is #20, and is quickly eliminated by Austin, GOAT MOMENT HAPPENS AUSTIN IS SITTING ON THE TOP ROPE; THEN BRET’S MUSIC HITS AND AUSTIN DOES THIS AMAZING SHOCKED FACIAL EXPRESSION

tm7BhSo.gif

Bret Hart #21 Bret/Austin awesomeness, Jerry Lawler is #22, but Bret immediately punches Lawler out over the top :lmaolmao:lmao Fake Diesel is #23, Terry Funk #24, Rocky #25, Mankind #26, we get some AWESOME Pairings like Funk/Austin, Funk/Mankind, Funk/Bret. Flash Funk #27, Vader is #28 and he fucks everyone up :mark: Henry Godwinn is #29 and Taker is #30

Taker and Vader go to war; before Taker takes the fight to everyone he hits chokeslams on Austin and Vader. Vader catches Flash and hits a Fallaway Slam over the top, Taker eliminates Goodwin, and Mankind applies the Mandible Claw on Rocky and throws him out. Mankind suplexs Funk off the apron to the floor, Taker then kicks him off the apron; Funk and Mankind brawl to the back. The refs are busy dealing with that and don’t see Austin being eliminated by Bret; Austin then sneaks back in and throws Vader and Taker over the top. Bret tosses Diesel out, but Austin comes from behind and throws him out winning it. This was clearly the Austin showcase and was pretty great when he got time to shine. Austin leaves and Bret is pissed, he’s pleading with the ref before putting his hands on the refs by shoving them. Bret starts throwing shit and he yells at Vince to do something about this and that he was screwed and they all saw it.

Earlier Today; JR had an interview with Shawn Michaels, he claims he has the “flu” but he looks super fucked up like he mixed Coke, Pills and Cough Syrup altogether. He says when it comes to crunch time he will be ready to go.

WWF World Heavyweight Championship: Shawn Michaels (w/Jose Lothario) vs. Sycho Sid
Shawn’s San Antonio attire is godly, if I ever find out where it’s held I’m willing to go steal it. God damn, I miss those main events WWF title matches backstage walks to the ring, it gives it such a main event feel. So this is weird, first of it goes 13 minutes which means Shawn must have been super fucked up and Sid probably too. As a result, this is like 90% Sid with rest holds. He smartly works over the back softening it up for the powerbomb, at least Shawn isn’t too fucked up to take his bumps. Shawn makes his comeback but Sid catches the superkick, he throws him to the floor and powerbombs him onto the floor. He chokes both Jose and his kid, but breaks the hold once he sees Shawn moving, back in the ref gets bumped in the corner and Sid chokeslams Shawn, but no ref. Another one comes down to count but Shawn kicks out at two, Sid then nails the other ref BECAUSE HE’S SNAPPED! Sid sees Jose on the apron and turns his attention to him allowing Shawn to grab one of the cameras and nails Sid with it twice, for revenge, he covers and it takes Earl all of 30 seconds to crawl over and it takes him 9 seconds to count to two. Shawn then delivers Sweet Chin Music and covers for the win. Shawn celebrates for 7 minutes, lol half the match afterward. **1/2

WWF Monday Night RAW: Episode 194
January 20th, 1997
Beaumont, Texas

Recap of the Rumble PPV to open the show.

Tonight: Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker

Bret Hart comes down, he says there's some I’ve got say…….something I’ve got to say to you (He points at Vince) Bret says when I decided to come back to the World Wrestling Federation. You promised me that I would get an opportunity to fight for the WWF title belt. You put me in the ring with Stone Cold Steve Austin, and said that if I could beat him I would be the #1 contender for the belt. Don’t you think it’s just a little bit convenient that for some stupid reason, Shawn Michaels finds himself at ringside in my championship match against Sid. I don’t think it was any kind of a coincidence either. So, Shawn jumps up and sticks his nose in my business and cost me my title. And then go, oh that’s okay. Don’t worry about it because now, you could go in the Royal Rumble and you only have to fight 29 other guys, then you will get your opportunity, So I went into the ring, and it’s very clear to me that I should be getting a WWF title match. Where is my opportunity? I’ve been screwed by Shawn Michaels, I’ve been screwed Steve Austin, I’ve been screwed by the World Wrestling Federation. And I’ve been screwed by you. I don’t like to make idle threats. But the way I see things, it looks like I won’t be getting my shot at the title……..So, I QUIT! Bret walks off through the crowd, as they chant “We Want Bret”

Steve Austin comes down and picks up the mic that Bret just dropped, it’s not working, Austin says Bret Hart, you can sit there and bellyache, complain with the rest of them Son. Ever since you can back, you ain’t done nothing but cry. You sit there and talk about how everyone screwed you, the bottom line is, when the going gets tough, the Harts get going back home :mark: Go back to Canada son, because the only person you can possibly beat is your wrinkled up old man in his little old basement. You talk about being jerked around; I’ve been jerked around for 7 years. I come here tonight, and I’m suppose to face Sycho Sid tonight and some guy, a 350 pound buffoon that calls himself Gorilla Monsoon, the commissioner says “No, No Sid is at home with a concussion” Sid maybe home with an icepack on his head, but he’s also got a yellow stripe running down the middle of his back. As far as Monsoon goes, I got a big bunch of bananas and I can tell you where to stick each and every one of them. You want me to face the Undertaker, you bring his head ass out here, because I threw him over the top rope last night, and I’ll do the same thing tonight.

AMAZING FIRST 10 MINUTES OF THE SHOW :mark:

Owen Hart & The British Bulldog (w/Clarence Mason) vs. Doug Furnas & Phillip Lafon
This is really good, Owen and Lafon start, it’s back and forth for a little until Doug and Phil take turns beating on Owen, that goes on for a little bit until Owen hits a spinning leg lariat and tags Bulldog in. JR tells us Taker has been fined his entire Royal Rumble parse for chokeslamming a ref :lmaolmao:lmao Owen blind tags him and hits a dropkick off the top and the heels isolate Doug, it’s really good, I think Bulldog either doesn’t care or is fucked up because it’s most Owen doing the work, which I’m not complaining about at all. They do some really good cut-off spots and fake hot tag spots, Lafon would eventually gets the tag and cleans house. He fucks up a jumping DDT but JR covers it up by saying it was a single arm takedown, the match breaks down a little and Owens hits Doug in the head with one of his Slammys’ allowing Bulldog to hit the running powerslam for the win. **3/4

Faarooq (w/The Nation of Domination) vs. Bart Gunn
This is fine, The Nation gets involved time and time again, cheating by jumping Bart or putting Faarooqs’ foot on the ropes, Bart does a good enough job at putting over how the numbers are just too much but he has so much heart to keep going, but in the end he falls to he numbers advantage and Faarooq to hit the Dominator for the win.

As the Nation leave, Gorilla and Vince come out as we got to a commercial. Gorilla says he's upset by Bret's announcement, but only hopes he can hear his invitation that last night was a travesty. He says the referee's decision IS final, and Austin won the Rumble. However if he thinks that tainted victory allows him to get a shot at the WWF Champion at WrestleMania 13, he’s got another thing coming. He says he's put together a four man elimination No DQ match to see who faces the champion. The participants are………..The Undertaker, Vader, and if he accepts Bret Hart and Steve Austin. Both guys leave, but Austin comes back out; he grabs the mic and says I guess you ain’t heard what Bret Hart said, you can’t have a 4 way because Bret quit. He says before they yank out his carpet; remember that there is not instant replay in the WWF. He says he calls himself a Gorilla, but he's more like a jackass. The bottom line is, when I get done with those 4 I’m gonna toss your carcass around the arena. Austin gets in both Vince and Gorilla’s face………BUT BRET IS BACK!!!! He gets in the ring, and says he accepts! BRET AND AUSTIN FIGHT ON THE FLOOR FUCK YEAH! Referees come out to pull them apart as we go to break.

Buy the WWF Full Metal album

Back from the commercial; Austin is in the ring while security and officials hold Bret back on the floor, Taker comes out but he doesn’t do his normal Taker slow walk instead he marching full speed, Bret is standing in front of him so Taker punches him what the fuck :lmao Now they begin brawling on the floor, as Bret is taken to the back, Austin attacks Taker on the floor to start the match.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker
These early short Taker/Austin matches blow the 98/99 stuff away, and for two guys that never clicked in the ring they really have a good one here. Taker dominates early with awesome strikes and Austin’s bumping is phenomenal, Austin targets the head as Lawler, JR and Vince talk about how bad his Taker’s ribs are from last night; guess he doesn’t watch the show. HOLY SHIT! Lawler even comes off commentary and bangs on the apron telling Austin to work his ribs :lmao Austin pretty much ignores him, and Taker low blows Austin right infront of the ref :lmao Austin comes right back with a stunner outta nowhere. Both men are down as we cut to backstage footage of Bret and Vader having to be pulled apart. Back in the ring and Austin has control back but, Taker hits his flying clothesline and Vader runs down for the DQ. After the match; Taker chokeslams Vader, but Austin attacks him. Bret comes down and brawls with Vader. All four fight in the ring to end the show. **3/4

Great fuckin’ show, way to make sense of last night, and to build to upcoming PPV match. Along with Bret’s angle of being screwed. Awesome.

So I downloaded the entire 1997 pack of these, I don’t plan on watching the full shows. But I will watch matches that catch my interest.

WWF Shotgun Saturday Night
January 25th, 1997
Webster Hall, New York City

So the show opens with Owen and Vince on commentary, we get shots of the crowd and they have thots dancing on little stages all around the building, AWESOME! Wrestling needs more thots that don’t wrestle who look like strippers. Anyway, Mankind comes out and he begins stalking one of them, he backs one into a corner as Owen says Bret planted these woman to distract him :lmao Before Mankind and touch one Bret attacks him and the match is on.

Mankind (w/Paul Bearer) vs. Bret Hart
The term dream match gets thrown out way too loosely, but this for me is a dream match it’s just a shame Mankind debuted the night after Mania 11 and Bret took that time off, and when he returned he went right into the feuds with Austin, Shawn and Taker then the screwjob happen so we never got a chance :( But you can tell from the short time they got here and that they didn’t go full speed or even really bust out the big guns they were potentially saving this for down the road sometime. This was more of a brawl than a technical match, Bret suplex’s Mankind on the hard floor but can’t capitalize, Mankind then rakes the face and begins to take over. Bret's bumping is good, and Mankind was great on offense, very methodical. Bret crotches Mankind on the steel rails on the floor and he begins to take over, just like Mankind on offense Bret is very slow and methodical. This never kicks into 2nd gear, and I’m not mad at it, because like I said they probably thought they would have a few matches down the line. Bret locks in the sharpshooter, but Owen leaves commentary and attacks Bret for the DQ. After The Match; Bret and Owen fight to the back. **3/4

WWF Champion: Shawn Michaels
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Hunter Hearst Helmsley
WWF Tag Team Champions: Owen Hart & The British Bulldog

WWF Monday Night RAW: Episode 195
January 27th, 1997
Beaumont, Texas

Recap of last week’s Bret saga.

Ahmed Johnson vs. Crush (w/The Nation of Domination)
Trash, so much trash front runner for WMOTY.

Shawn Michaels comes out, Vince is in the ring and interviews him. He says the boyhood dream came true at last year’s Mania, and at the Rumble, the boyhood dream lived on. However, Thursday Raw Thursday it will be the rematch, Shawn/Sid. Shawn says this is no longer a dream, now everybody knows Sid and Shawn have a strange relationship. You gave me a shot, now I’ve giving you one. Vince says if you are successful you will have to face the winner of the 4-way; Shawn says people talk about the new attitude, not only his but Bret too. He says it’s all about the WWF championship, and it brings out the best in people or the worse and lately it’s turned people for the worse. Vince says he wants to bring someone out that he might be facing………BRET HART! Vince is about to ask Bret a question but Bret snatches the mic, he says to Shawn do whatever you have to do to keep that belt because you are the one I want to beat; he doesn’t want any excuses no injuries. Vince asks if he’s overlooking Sid and Bret says he doesn’t care. He wants Shawn, hell he might even go so far as to saying that I’ll be watching you back, Shawn. Vince also brings out The Undertaker. Taker says with all due respect to Bret, he’s getting sick about how he keeps talking about how he’s been getting screwed. Nobody has been screwed out of the title more times than him. He says he’s sat back and let everyone do their own thing, but it’s now time for the title to comeback to the dark side. No longer will I be the hunted, I will be the hunter. Shawn give your soul to the lord because that belt and your body belongs to me. Vince then brings out Steve Austin. Austin says he may be the toughest SOB in the WWF, but he also recognizes an ambush when he sees it. He says he just sees a bunch of cry-babies and at the final 4 he will win (WE GET THIS AWESOME SHOT OF BEHIND AUSTIN IN THE SHADOWS IS VADER DOING HIS FLEX POSE) Austin then turns around and sees Vader, he then turns back around to the ring and says on second thought, I’ll just whip your ass right now :lmao He then backs up and hurries past Vader.

The British Bulldog (w/Clarence Mason & Owen Hart) vs. Doug Furnas (w/Phillip Lafon)
This isn’t back but it isn’t really good either; Bulldog does some great power moves and elbow strikes and Furnas bumps for everything, but this just feels a little off. Owen and Bulldog have miscommunication which almost costs Bulldog the match, but Bulldog counters a sunset flip and uses his momentum to lean forward and cover for the win. After the match; Bulldog and Owen get into an argument as Bulldog has Owen’s slammy, Owen grabs it back and Mason raises both their hands. **1/2

Clips air from MSG of Savio Vega turning on Ahmed, and on Shotgun, he joined The Nation.

Vader & Mankind (w/Paul Bearer) vs. The Godwinns (w/Hillbilly Jim)
Vader and Mankind do what they can, but the Godwinns are fuckin’ atrocious. This is more of an angle match, as Mankind refuses to tag Vader in; he also refuses to even later Vader sets cheapshots on, on the floor. Thankfully Vader tags himself in and fucks this up, AMAZING PUNCHES AND A NASTY CLOTHESLINE. Mankind tags in and Vader/Mankind doo this cool double-team where they have one of the goodwinns holding onto the top rope and they whip him over the top to the floor. The other goodwinn is super pissed and he comes over and starts beating the fuck out of both Vader and Mankind; Vader takes the fight onto the floor but Mankind accidently hits him with a chair and the ref calls for the DQ. Lolwat. **1/4

WWF Champion: Shawn Michaels
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Hunter Hearst Helmsley
WWF Tag Team Champions: Owen Hart & The British Bulldog

WWF Monday Night RAW: Episode 196
February 3rd, 1997
Sky dome: Toronto, Canada

This is the debut of Raw going to 2 hours, crazy is they never promoted it going to 2.

They air the final moments of the rumble from Austin being eliminated to him winning.

Vader (w/Paul Bearer) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Austin and Vader go nose to nose, but Bret runs down and attacks Austin from behind :mark: Vader gets involved and he and Bret get into it, as officials and refs try to break it up. Austin and Bret brawl on the floor before they eventually get separated. Austin attacks Vader when he comes in and begins beating on him in the corner. Austin makes the mistake of not only spitting on Vader but turning his back, and Vader takes advantage by attacking him from behind. Vader does his normal vicious beating but he takes too long up top deciding if he wants to do the Vader bomb or the moonsault, the ref tries to talk him down but he gets shoved in the face allowing Austin to low blow him and make a comeback, the Austin cheers are starting to grow and is louder than the boooo’s. The ref gets bumped as we go to a commercial :lmao When we return, Vader misses a legdrop and Austin power slams him :mark: Both men trade strikes with Vader winning because THOSE PUNCHES ARE AMAZING! Another low blow by Austin and he back beating on Vader, Austin keeps attacking Vader and refuses to break until the ref has to physically remove him. Austin doesn’t like that so he hits the ref with a stunner. Vader attacks him from behind and they brawl onto the floor, refs and officials run down and break it up. I guess that’s the match. **3/4

Thursday RAW Thursday HYPE!

Savio and the Nation come out, JR tries to get an interview but Savio cuts him off and says he did it so the Latin-American people can be proud of him. The Nation is gonna rule the world federation.

Savio Vega (w/The Nation Of Domination) vs. Flash Funk
This happens it not bad, I don’t care enough to review. It’s a basic match never gets past the first gear, lacks heat and is just generically basic. Nation tries to get involved but Funk beats them up allowing Savio to play possum so when Funk goes for the moonsault he rolls out the way and covers for the win.

Jim Ross is in the ring, he brings out Sycho Sid. He asks Sid how he feels about Shawn. Sid says he heard Shawn say it himself, it’s weird, the friendship is weird. He says he feels safe to say that evil is just a mistake for happiness. Evil showed up at Survivor Series but it also showed up at the Rumble. When this ride is over, and the smoke clears I WILL BE STANDING AS THE MAN! AND THE MASTER AND THE RULER OF THE WORLD!

Vince at ringside interviews Owen and Bulldog who are in a locker room. Vince reminds them that Owen eliminated him from the Rumble, Owen cuts him off saying it was every man for himself and it was an accident. They begin to argue, as we just cut away lol.

WWF Tag Team Championships: Owen Hart & The British Bulldog vs. Doug Furnas & Phillip Lafon
Fuck yeah, rematch and for the titles. This goes 11 minutes and is a ton of fun, Bulldog is game tonight so we get a good mix of Owen’s high flying and bumping and Bulldogs power offense. They iso Furnas, it’s good and smart kayfabe wise as JR tells us that Furnas has the flu and is the weaker of the two. Owen and Bulldog continue the small building up tease with arguing, which almost allows Furnas to tag out but he doesn’t because we go to a commercial; when we return he’s still in the ring. Well at least 20 years ago WWE is still awful at commercial timing. Lafon does get the hot tag, it’s alright but the dead crowd does it no favours. Lafon hits a snap suplex and covers for the win, but Owens foot was on the bottom rope, the match continues as Bulldog and Owen have another miscommunication and Bulldog accidently sends Owen to the floor, he begins grabbing at his knee and I swear only 3 seconds go by and the ref calls for the bell for a countout :lmao After the match; Owen keeps playing up that the knee is hurt, he then jumps and celebrates before acting hurt again. God bless you Owen. **3/4

Ahmed Johnson says this is just the beginning, and tonight I’ve got something in store for the NATION now that he’s not on his Prozac anymore :lmao Taker appears out of nowhere and grabs him by the throat but Ahmed shoves him off and says if he touches him again, he will be a dead man for real. Taker then says if he goes out their now, he goes alone but if he waits they bury them together.

Crush (w/The Nation Of Domination) vs. Goldust (w/Marlena)
Goldust does what he can, but he’s having a pretty off night. He targets the arm, at the same time Hunter comes out to distract him which allows Crush to takeover with shitty rest-holds. Goldust goes for the shattered dreams but Savio attacks him from behind as the other Nation guys have the ref distracted, Crush hits his shitty heart-punch for the win.

THE BLACKJACKS!

Vince brings out, Shawn Michaels, Vince asks him to respond to Sid’s comments about how this championship brings out the evil in everyone. Shawn says if he would have asked him this 6, 8 months or even 1 year ago, he would have said this title brings out the good in everyone, now things are a little different. Sid may be wacky but he’s right; this belt has brought out the worse in some of the superstars and he is one of them. The fact is, if bring bad is what you have to be WWF champion, I will be the worse guy the WWF have ever seen. He says he’s okay with the people here in Canada booooing him because they want Bret. He’s already won the popular award; he just cares about his title. Vince asks him about Bret, Shawn says he’s used to being disliked because he is brutally honest. Bret can be what he claims to be, but one thing he won’t call himself, and that’s WWF champion. Bret has had enough and comes down to the ring. He says no matter how much he tries, he just finds it hard to like him. He says Shawn may pride himself on being a complete jackass, and as far as he’s concerned he’s nothing more than a punk. He dares Shawn to stop him, and he does by grabbing the mic out of Vince’s hand :lmao Shawn begins to speak but Autin attacks Bret from behind. They brawl on the floor, and Sid makes his way down to the ring, he gets in Shawn's face as we cut to a commercial.

Back from a commercial, Bret and Shawn are standing toe-to-toe in the ring, Shawn lays the title down in the ring like he’s drawing a line in the sand. They begin to talk shit to one another, but when Shawn goes to pick up the belt Bret puts his foot on it :mark: Bret then picks it up and hands it to Shawn but when he goes to take it, Bret just drops the belt :lmao what a dick

Earlier tonight; A contract signing of Tiger Ali Singh happen, must have been before Raw started because I didn’t see it :lmao

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Marc Mero vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Vince announces that the managers are barred from ringside tonight. Mero is more focused because he doesn’t have Sable at ringside so he dominates early, he’s one step ahead of Hunter, but he goes to the air one too many times and that backfires and Hunter goes to work on the ribs or lower back. Mero pretty much no sells it and Hunter just stops working the body, so they go right into trading moves and strikes. Best thing about this is Hunter’s midcard bumping; he’s super underrated at that. Mero shows the ref that Hunter removed the corner pad so as the ref is dealing with that Hunter goes into his puts and pulls out wrist tap gimmick UGH and KO’s him for the win. *

No Holds Barred Match: Mankind & Faarooq (w/The Nation Of Domination) vs. Ahmed Johnson & The Undertaker
Totally brawl right off the bat, which is pretty much carried by Mankind/Taker awesomeness. Then carried individually by Takers beating up Faarooq and Mankind bumping like crazy for Ahmed. Mason goes to the back and brings Savio and Crush. Mankind counters Old School into the mandible claw, but is broken up by Ahmed who hits the pear river plunge. Faarooq then hits the dominator on him for two when Taker breaks it up. Mankind brings in a chair but eats it at the hands or should I say big boot by Taker, on the floor Ahmed beats up the Nation and chases them to the back leaving it a 2-1 in the ring, he makes his way back and delivers some of the shittiest look 2x4 shots I’ve ever seen. Faarooq runs to the back and leaves it down to Taker/Mankind :mark: Mankind tries to bring in power but Taker slaps it back into his eyes, but here comes Vader he hits Taker with a splash. Mankind instead of going for the cover picks up Taker and demands Vader hit him with a chair, well Vader swings and Taker avoids and Vader “accidently” nails Mankind with it. Chairshot to Vader has no effects and Taker disposes of him and hits Mankind with a tombstone on the chair for the win. ** - **1/4
