For the simple fact that great in ring work isn't something you can carry over for a period of time and is very limited.

Lets say you have what's considered a good workrate match.... then it's over. what's next? what's going to draw the fan to the next show?

There's nowhere else to go, what are you going to give them? another match?

It would only be a matter of time before the audience turns the TV off as all you've given them is the same thing over and over again. In ring work is very limited, there's a limit to what can be done in the ring, once the fan sees it all, they won't tune in anymore, especially in today's world with short attention spans.

What draws people to the next show? Something fresh. No one is going to watch the same thing over and over again, things must always freshen up, much like TV shows.

What freshens it up? Storyline, Character.

That's what draws, that's what keeps the fans coming back, workrate will only attract a very niche casually viewing audience. every show on television including Professional Wrestling survives on two things, Storyline and Character.

There's only a certain amount of things done in the ring that the audience has seen before they tune out, the episodes refresh because of storyline and character.

Since what is done in the ring is limited you need to rely on story and character to keep it going, Storyline and Character must therefore be the priority as that's what attracts and draws viewers and keeps viewers locked into the product.

The in ring action since limited is the background to the storylines and characters by way of Psychology,

Storyline and character is what makes the in ring action have an objective meaning and gives it the high quality.

Fans buy the match because of the story.

The story is told by promos, interviews, segments and etc,

the quality is determined by charisma, mic skill, good writing

Matches should use Psychology over random moves as it's #1 tool, in order to progress the story.

A great match that invokes the emotion of a fan must have story.

No story, no character = No emotional investment in match,

Without psychology which creates meaning and invokes emotion, then a match is rendered psychopathic, thus rendering it unrelatable to the fans, as the fans are emotional/psychological beings. basically you have no connection to your audience without psychology.

Psychology, storyline and character is objectively needed in Professional Wrestling and is the objective priority over anything else.

I am more of a match guy fan but even I agree with this. Rock's promos are what got him to Hollywood and to bein' the highest paid actor ever. So to discount what character development is in wrestlin' to bring in fans is dumb as fuck. We need a better emphasis on growin' talent as mega stars, not just solid hands in the ring.

Well not everyone is aiming to have a Hollywood career lol. I think true wrestling fans care more about match quality than casuals do. That being said let’s not pretend that WWE hasn’t had a shit ton of talent who were great wrestlers and could talk and have characters.

Not true wrestling fans, only obsessive fanatics put in ring work on a pedestal as it’s trival, the business doesn’t need workrate to be successful. During wrestling’s biggest periods no one cared about workrate.
Every product has its niche, you have Star Wars fanatics who care about trival stuff, but under no circumstances do you cater to them, they are not your audience.

Workrate fanatics are a niche and not the audience.

Professional Wrestling is a soap opera about a fictional sport, the “wrestling” that takes place in this world isn’t wrestling.

Wrestling doesn’t have strikes, Irish whips, pin falls, tapping out, and doesn’t take place in a boxing ring. It’s completely fictional exactly like the sport of BASEketball in the movie BASEketball.

Wrestling fanatics obsessing about the fictional “Professional Wrestling” sport in the Soap Opera Action Adventure Series of Professional Wrestling is exactly like fanatics of the movie BASEketball obsessing about the fictional sport in the Movie “BASEketball”

The only thing that matters is storyline and character.

You mention workers who were great characters and had mic skills who had good workrate, but that’s irrelevant, no one cared about their work rate and they would’ve succeeded without it.

Yeah you’re dead wrong if you think the wrestling itself doesn’t matter. Character is probably more important because that’s what the fans latch onto but you get mad respect if you can put on a great match. Most of the GOATs are guys who had a great character and who could wrestle. Obviously hulk hogan is an exception.

Respect from who?

Only fanatics care if someone has workrate, regular fans don’t care.

Promoters don't give a fuck who's "a ReAl FaN"......the want the casuals and guess what? The highest rated segments are when two people have mics in their hands.

Get the fuck over yourselves and realize that they don't cater this shit to you.....they want people's money they don't already have.
