CROWNING THE INAUGURAL PPW WORLD CHAMPION

The trio of PPW Chairwoman Stephanie McMahon, PPW Head of Creative Paul Levesque and PPW General Manage William Regal hosted a press conference earlier today to announce how the company will be crowning the inaugural Project Pro Wrestling World Champion.

McMahon announced that the first ever PPW World Champion would be crowned in the inaugural Project Pro Wrestling G1 Climax tournament.

The wrestlers who will take part in the tournament and the blocks that they will be in will be revealed soon, it should be known that there will be four blocks and thirty two competitors.

Also in terms of the rules, it would work on a point based system, 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points if the match ends in either a disqualification or a count out.

PPW G1 Climax Night One - Block A

Sanada V El Hijo Del Vikingo
The show started with a Block A opening round match between Sanada and El Hijo Del Vikingo. The two men shook hands before they locked up as a sign of mutual respect, the action was fast paced but eventually Sanada would wear his opponent down.

In the end Vikingo took his opponent down to the mat and then dragged him to one of the corners of the ring and then climbed up to the top rope.

From here he attempted a 630 Splash on his opponent but would reposition himself and caught him in his Skull End finisher and Vikingo tapped out.

Winner: Sanada

Seth Rollins V Roman Reigns
Next we saw Seth Rollins take on a man who he had been on both sides of the ring with as a foe and a tag team partner aka Roman Reigns. Reigns dominated early on and looked to have the match won after taking Rollins to the mat to set him up for the Spear.

Reigns taunted the crowd but this allowed Rollins the time to return to his feet and this enraged Reigns when he turned his attention back to his opponent.

The arrogant “Tribal Chief” attempted the move anyway but Rollins caught him mid move and turned it into a Pedigree which floored Reigns. From here Rollins hit back to back Curb Stomps and got the pin.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Carmelo Hayes V MJF
Then the penultimate match took place and it saw “Can’t Miss” Carmelo Hayes and “Better than You” MJF in a singles match. The latter competitor aka MJF spent most of the match avoiding locking up with his opponent and trash talking the audience.

In the end Hayes had his opponent in the perfect position for his trademark Nothing but Net finisher only for MJF to roll out of the ring and this resulted in Hayes crashing to the mat.

The one and only egotistical prick known simply as MJF returned to the ring and proceeded to roll his opponent up with a handful of tights for the win.

Winner: MJF

Alex Shelly V AJ Styles
Finally the main event saw Alex Shelly face off with the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles in the final block A first round match.

To those who think this would be a complete squash in the favor of Styles would be 100% wrong as Shelly held his own for the complete duration of the match.

The end of the match saw Styles fight out of the Border Stretch and then rolled out onto the apron and when Shelly charged at him he hit him with a shoulder in the gut which forced him to back off.

Styles then attempted and successfully hit the Phenomenal Forearm and then dragged Shelly up and hit the Styles Clash for the pin.

Winner: AJ Styles

PPW G1 Climax - Block B First Round Matches

Claudio Castagnoli V Alexander Hammerstone
The show opened with a one on one match between Claudio Castagnoli and Alexander Hammerstone. The latter controlled the match early on and had his opponent set up for his Nightmare Pendulum but his opponent managed to fight out of it and land on his feet. From here Castagnoli hit a European Uppercut and then followed it up with the Ricola Bomb for the pin.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli

Blake Christian V Spike Trivet
Next Blake Christian faced Spike Trivet in the second match of the night and the match was pretty evenly matched. The ending of the match saw Trivet kick Christian in the gut and then grab him and sent him flying out of the ring through the ropes. While Christian returned to his feet at ringside back in the ring Trivet ran the ropes and then attempted a Suicide Dive only to get caught by Christian. Christian then laid him out with a Tombstone Piledriver onto the floor, then dragged him up and threw him back into the ring and then climbed up to the top rope and hit a 450 Splash for the pin.
Winner: Blake Christian

Chris Jericho V John Cena
After that two men who knew each other very well in Chris Jericho and John Cena go one on one. As can be expected these two men tore the house down and the match could have considerably gone either way and no one would be surprised. Cena fought off an attempted Codebreaker and then scooped Jericho up onto his shoulders, only for the latter to fight out of it and land on his feet behind Cena. From here Jericho attempted and hit the Judas Effect to the back of his opponent’s head for the pin.
Winner: Chris Jericho

Hiroshi Tanahashi V Keith Lee
The final B-Block opening round match saw the “Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi take on the “Limitless” Keith Lee. While Tanahashi took the fight to his opponent early on it would only last so long before Lee managed to fight his way into control of the match. Lee dominated and even hit the Spirit Bomb for a very close near fall but in the end Tanahashi was able to take the bigger man down to the mat. He then followed this up by going over to the closest corner and climbed to the top rope and attempted and successfully hit the High Fly Flow for the pin.
Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi

INTERMISSION

PPW G1 Climax Block C First Round Matches

Cody Rhodes V Finn Balor
The first match after the intermission saw the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes square off with the “Real RockNRolla” Finn Balor in the first match of Block C. It was pretty much an instant classic between two of the best current wrestlers in the game today. The ending saw Balor fight his way out of an attempted Cross Rhodes from his opponent and then took him down with a Sling Blade. Then Balor dragged him back up and hit the Bloody Sunday for the pin.
Winner: Finn Balor

ZSJ V Will Ospreay
Next the self proclaimed “Best British Wrestler Ever” Zack Sabre Jr took on the “Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay. ZSJ wore his opponent down with submission based offense while Ospreay attempted to speed the match up with high flying high paced moves. The ending of the match saw ZSJ lock his opponent in an Octopus Stretch only for Ospreay to fight out of it and then followed it up by hitting the ropes and springboarding back with the Oscutter for the pin.
Winner: Will Ospreay

Nick Aldis V Tetsuya Naito

The penultimate match saw the first time match up of “Norfolk Nobleman” Nick Aldis versus the leader of Los Ingobernables De Japon Tetsuya Naito.
The conclusion of the match saw Aldis come out on top of a a brawl and scoop his opponent up onto his shoulders only for Naito to somehow be able to turn it into Destino for the pin.

Winner: Nick Aldis

Randy Orton V Kazuchika Okada
Finally the night closed out with another first time match up this time between the “Apex Predator” Randy Orton and the “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada. The two men tore the house down for twenty two minutes and it could have gone either way. In the end though Okada had his opponent set up for his trademark Rainmaker clothesline only for Orton to duck out of the way and hit the RKO for the pin.
Winner: Randy Orton

Winner: Jay White

Jeff Cobb V Brock Lesnar
Next the “Hawaiian Hammer” Jeff Cobb went one on one with the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar. The match was about seventeen minutes long and saw Cobb send his opponent into the ropes and on the rebound attempted the Tour of the Islands. However, Lesnar would block the attempt and then hoisted Cobb up for the F5 which led to the pin.
Winner: Brock Lesnar

Kenny Omega V Jon Moxley
After that the “Best Bout Machine” Kenny Omega took on the “Purveyor of Punishment” Jon Moxley.

The match went about twenty three minutes and saw Moxley fight out of an attempted One Winged Angel from Omega and land behind his opponent.

From here Moxley grabbed Omega and spun him around and kicked him in the gut and hit the Paradigm Shift for the pin.

Next El Hijo Del Vikingo went one on one with the “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns.

Carmelo Hayes V Alex Shelly
After that the penultimate match saw Carmelo Hayes take on Alex Shelly.

The match went for around eighteen minutes.
The ending of the match saw Shelly attempt and miss a Frog Splash which allowed Hayes time to climb up to one of the top turnbuckles.

From here Hayes attempted and successfully hit Nothing but Net for the win.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes

AJ Styles V MJF
The main event saw AJ Styles and MJF square off.

The match lasted about twenty five minutes and could have gone either way.

Of course MJF was the designated heel of the match and Styles the face and as a result of this dynamic it was the latter who had the crowd behind him.

Styles attempted to hit his opponent with the Phenomenal Forearm but MJF spat in his face when he was in mid-air. From here MJF rolled Styles up with a handful of tights for the pin.
Winner: MJF

PPW G1 Climax - Block D Second Round & Block A Third Round Matches

The second round of Block D matches kicked off with Edge versus Jeff Cobb. Cobb scored a huge victory after he countered an attempted Spear into the Tour of the Islands for the pin.

Next “Switchblade” Jay White faced the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar. Despite the former's cunning approach to the match he would fall victim to a trip to Suplex City and an F5 for pin.

After that the “Best Bout Machine” Kenny Omega went one on one with the “Mercenary” Steve Maclin. The latter dominated early on but fell victim to a trifecta of V-Triggers from Omega for the pin.

The last match of the second round of Block D matches was a brutal affair between the “Purveyor of Punishment” Jon Moxley and the “King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura. Moxley got the pinfall victory after hitting a Paradigm Shift off the top rope.

INTERMISSION

Back from intermission and it was time for the third round of block a matches to begin with Sanada versus Roman Reigns.
In the end, Reigns took things to a new level of vindictiveness as he laid his opponent out with a Spear and then locked in the Hail to the King (Guillotine Choke) and Sanada passed out.

Next we saw a highflying back and forth match between El Hijo Del Vikingo and Seth Rollins. In the end Vikingo managed to turn an attempted Buckle Bomb into a hurricarana which sent Rollins face first into the corner instead. Then Vikingo followed this up by dragging Rollins out of the corner and put him in the center of the ring and then exited the ring on apron. From here he hit a Springboard 630 Splash for the pin.

MJF versus Alex Shelly served as the penultimate match of the evening. The former was his usual egotistical self and this would be to his detriment as it would allow Shelly an opening to take control. From here Shelly successfully took his opponent down to the mat and locked in the Border City Stretch and MJF was forced to submit.

The main event match of the night was Carmelo Hayes versus AJ Styles. And what a hell of a match it was as neither man wanted to give an inch to their opponent. The match went for twenty two minutes and the ending came about after Hayes scooped Styles up and hit an Argentine DDT for the pin.
