I'm still bummed on the Joel Embiid news I had to go away from the Draft. Happy that we have a Cornerstone at the LB spot to go with Edwards, Kyzir White, and Riddick. Probably the best LB we have had since 2017.

I like it but the fans are going to be calling for him in the preseason. It’s crazy all those years we were mocked to get a T and didn’t and probably took years off Cam’s career now we have a good OL, hopefully a healthy McCaffrey and average to above average WRs but no experienced QB to get them the ball. The defense will come along and I think Corral will shine but it will be under a different coaching staff. I hope I’m wrong.

ETA: Corral was thought highly of as a prospect but got injured in the bowl game, IIRC.

I forgot our GM found Russell Wilson in the mid third round of the draft when he was with the Seahawks so let’s just wait and see, I guess. Maybe lightning will strike twice and we didn’t really give up as much as I thought to get Corral.

Georgia Bulldogs break NFL record with 15 players drafted​

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Georgia Bulldogs won their first national championship since 1980 in January and they now have won the NFL draft.

The Bulldogs, powered by the nation's top-scoring defense, set a record this weekend for players from one school selected in a seven-round draft. Georgia, when cornerback Derion Kendrick and tight end John FitzPatrick were taken with back-to-back picks in the sixth round (Nos. 212 and 213 overall), finished with 15 players selected in this year's draft.

The current seven-round format began in 1994. The previous record in the format had been set by Ohio State with 14 players selected in 2004 draft and LSU with 14 in 2020, including quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick.

Georgia had already set a record Thursday night for the common draft era with five defensive players chosen in the opening round, led by Travon Walker at the No. 1 pick overall.

Earlier this year Walker said he hoped the Bulldogs would have this kind of draft weekend to add to their national championship run.

"That's something that's history, being on the field with all those guys, just being on the team with all those type players is something special,'' Walker said at the scouting combine. " ... There's a lot of great players, a lot of hard workers. And we did what we was asked.''

In the end, the Bulldogs had eight defensive players selected this year, six offensive players and punter Jake Camarda (in the sixth round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

The overall record for players from one school selected in the NFL draft was set in 1984, when Texas had 17 selected in a 12-round draft. Notre Dame had 16 players picked in a 32-round draft in 1946, when the NFL had just 10 teams.

What an amazing draft class that the Bulldogs put up.

Sucks that Jobe got undrafted, but he's getting opportunity to show off his talents in Philly:

Former Alabama defensive back Josh Jobe has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft.

Jobe was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide in both 2020 and 2021. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Jobe accounted for 129 tackles, three interceptions, and 19 pass deflections.

After the 2020 season, Jobe received an All-American honorable mention by Pro Football Focus. Jobe chose to forego the draft and return for his senior season.

An injury in the SEC championship game cut Jobe’s season short as he did not appear in either playoff game. However, he earned a spot on the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Thorpe watch lists.

Jobe is an exceptional special teams player, and will likely make in immediate impact in that regard. He will also have the opportunity to learn under former first-team All-pro Darius Slay.
