Re: NBA Regular Season Discussion Thread

Phoenix was above 500 before their trade and Golden State was also well over it before Lee got that infection that caused him to miss weeks. It wasn't like the division was the worst out west even for a good portion of the season as only the South West was better for a while.

Did you really go there when Boston's trade for KG was a worse rip off than LA's for Pau?

Re: NBA Regular Season Discussion Thread

Boston: Al Jefferson, Ratliff's huge expiring contract, a future 1st round pick (not knowing whether they'd be good or not), a 1st round pick previously acquired from the T-Wolves (so a high pick), Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, and Ryan Gomes.

Los Angeles: Marc Gasol, 2 future first round picks (crap picks obv), Kwame Brown, and Javaris Crittenton.

Get the fuck out of here.

This. That trade for pau was a joke. The Garnett trade was at least something decent.

Wait, also, at the time of the trades, Gasol was 27 and Garnett was 31 with many more miles.

THE FUCK OUT

Re: NBA Regular Season Discussion Thread

LA gave up the Spanish League MVP, the cap space that Memphis wanted to use on Z-bo (Wallace has said it) via Kwame's expiring, Crittenton who obviously never panned out, the picks that gave them Vasquez and Arthur, paid their luxury tax bill, and a trade exemption.

Boston gave up Al Jefferson who wasn't a top 5 center at the time since he was a 16 and 8 guy (Okur, Shaq, Dwight, Yao, Duncan, and Z were all better centers than Jefferson), Gomes who is a fringe player, Theo's expiring, Telfair who is a journeyman, and Gearld Green who isn't in the league anymore.

The two franchise's record since making the trades favor Memphis as well.

No. You lose. I don't care how they panned out. There's no way the L.A. offer was the best offer Memphis could have gotten. They got (wait, let me use one of your favorite cliches) the lesser brother and "the picks that got them Vasquez and Arthur" (you typed this, I imagine, with a fucking straight face).

And you left out the better draft picks Minnesota got and the huge cap relief they got.

You. fucking. lose.

The Lakers stole Pau, and you know it. No ifs, ands, or buts, about it.

Re: NBA Regular Season Discussion Thread

Wait, also, at the time of the trades, Gasol was 27 and Garnett was 31 with many more miles.

THE FUCK OUT

Pau was coming off breaking his foot for team Spain and missing a ton of games for Memphis, had a bad back that caused him to sit games in Memphis during his last year, had never won a playoff game, had demanded a trade the year before, and had miles on him from the ABC League and playing since he was a kid professionally like Sabonis.

KG was a proven MVP level player, had playoff experience, and everyone knew he could put a team over the top as the 2nd option.

LA didn't even contact Memphis for the Pau trade as Chris Wallace contacted them by his own admission with an offer after Jerry West had shot Mitch down the year before when he was GM because he felt a deal surrounding Bynum and Kwame was too little. Wallace said he wanted to get out of Pau's contract that was an albatross over the team and wanted to find a way to get Z-bo, knew Marc's potential from watching him come and practice in Memphis while Pau was there, and he also thought Crittenton (not Farmar who LA tried to give up) would grow to be their starting PG.

Minny also shot down Bynum, Odom, and Kwame for KG the same summer Boston got him; Indy shot down every offer that wasn't Odom and Bynum for JO as well.

The fact is Memphis ended up getting more out of their package they received than Minnesota did from the Boston package
