Opposite of the previous thread.

Mine:

- Happy Feet
- Forrest Gump (the book would make a better movie than the movie)
- Eraserhead
- Dune
- Inception (not bad, but no way it's the best movie ever made!)
- Let The Right One In (Swedish)
- Mullholland Drive
- Wall-E (I LIKED it, the first half is brilliant, but the second half really drags it down for me. In my opinion, Up! and Nemo are much better)
- Matrix Reloaded

There may be more, but I can't think of them right now.

Pretty much any Oscar winning film is guaranteed to be boring as fuck, especially if it stars one of the following;

- Keira Knightley
- Daniel Day Lewis
- Helen Mirren

Also, as a boxing fan, I say Raging Bull is a raging pile of shit.

Some Oscar movies have been good. Lord of The Rings, Slumdog Millionaire, Precious, the Godfather, etc...

Ancorman: Saw it twice, didn't laugh once
Inception: 2 hrs of Bullshit
X-Men series
fast & Furious series
Harry Potter series

Avatar & Titanic: Never saw either but know I'd hate 'em both.

@The Cork: Daniel Day Lewis is an awesome actor who has made tons of awesome movies!

Most comedy movies but I'll just say the Harold & Kumar series is awful.

I just realized how much people love the movie Avatar and I just laughed because for the length of time it took to make that movie, it blows. They put so much money into that movie and it came out terribly, might just be my opinion but they should've at least tried a little harder, not by spending more money, but by putting more thought into it.

Oh Pete my friend you are a dead man! lol I am such a big David Lynch fan, Mulholland Drive is the best movie of the last ten years, and Eraserhead is a pure cult classic. The issue I have with you saying Dune is that most people consider that a Turkey and even I as a die hard Lynch fan would only give it about 6/10.

Who says that Inception is the best film of all time? Sure many consider it the best film of 2010, but I have not heard anyone suggest it is the best film ever.

Can't think of many but something off the top of my head: I haven't really got into any of the Star Wars or LOTR films.

Oh,

  • Avatar
  • Inception
  • Slumdog Millionaire

I am with you on Star Wars, only The Empire Strikes Back really holds any appeal for me.

Keith, Eraserhead was the closest I ever came to walking out of a theatre. The only reason I didn't was that I kept telling myself it had to get better. It never did. And people who want to rag on B-Movie monsters may want to look at the baby in this movie, as it is as bad as anything from the 1950s.

Mulholland, might admittedly be my problem. I got lost towards the end (bloody David Lynch!) and that detracted from my overall experience.

Bottom line is, I gave up on Lynch - him and me just definitely do not agree.

And I've heard plenty of people cry "Inception is the best movie ever made!" over the years. I thought it was a pretentious, pseudo-intellectual snoozefest.

Well it only came out two years ago so they haven't had that many years to say it. It is just narrow minded modern movie fans, most of them don't have a clue. It was a very good film, but no where near the best of all time.

As for Eraserhead the fact is it was extremely low budget so that explains the design of the bady, still there is an old fashioned charm to the naffness which maybe pointing to those 50s films. Putting that aside the appeal is the creepy atmosphere, scary visuals, and the unique idea behind the film (the idea comes from Lynch's tramours when having his daughter), also the acting is pretty solid too.

You need to go back and watch Mulholland Drive, it is such a twisted, funny, tragic and mind funk of a thriller. The acting epsically from Watts is first rate and the music is also too.

Have you see Blue Velvet yet? IMO one of the twenty greatest films ever and possibly the finest of the 80s. Also try Lynch's more human work like the Elephant Man and The Straight Story. Afterwards go and watch Twin Peaks the TV series.
