I got myself a PS Plus Premium subscription this week, so I decided I'd do something a little interesting (and to get me out of my gaming comfort shell).
Basic concept is later tonight I'll be putting in a list of PS4 games I've never played from the PS Plus catalogue and trying out whichever game gets first. I'll post back the results. So good chance it may end up being something I'd never play usually.
I'll be giving each game at least three hours to try and grab me, and then I'll leave my review/thoughts about the game and if I'll be continuing to play it afterwards.

Next game I'll be playing is 9 Monkeys of Shaolin.
What it is:
9 Monkeys of Shaolin is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Russian independent game studio Sobaka Studio and published by Ravenscourt and Buka Entertainment with Teyon in Japan and Sonkwo in China. The story recreates the atmosphere of the kung fu movies of the 70s.
Wouldn't have ever considered trying this one, but it honestly sounds pretty cool. I have enjoyed side scrollers in the past. I'll get it downloaded tonight and share thoughts after I get around to playing a few hours of it.

So I played a couple of hours of the Shaolin game before Rampage and it's SICK! Crazy how I would have slept on this game otherwise. I scrolled past it many times when I was browsing through the games. It has such an addictive gameplay loop. Combat feels super satisfying and rewarding. It's like a mix between Nioh and Dark Souls, but in a side scrolling way. Works super well, and I like how it reminds me of the Souls' Series. Skill tree upgrading, obtaining new weapons and gear. Make sure you give this one a chance if you see it on sale or have PS Plus Extra/Premium. For sure one I'll be continuing to play.
First game already a success in this little challenge.
Been playing the Shaolin game daily. Fair to say I'm a big fan of it, and I could see myself getting all the trophies for it.
So now that has been taken out of the list, I've randomized the games again just now..
The next game I'll be playing is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic
What it's about:
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a 2013 first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is a standalone expansion to Far Cry 3 and the eighth overall installment in the Far Cry franchise. Blood Dragon is a retro-futuristic parody of 1980s action films, cartoons and video games, and takes place on an open world island.
This works. Never played the expansion, although I love Far Cry 3. Should be interesting with the retro 80's theme. I'll get it downloaded sometime next week.

Blood Dragon Classic is pretty fun. It's basically just more Far Cry 3 with an 80's aesthetic. I very much enjoy the over-the-top action vibe it's going for, it has elements of Duke Nukem as well I feel. That style of shooter. Humour is pretty on point.
After randomizing all the PS4 games they got available, I ended up getting Stranded Deep as the top choice. Looks pretty interesting, it's a survival game where you're on an island and having to scavenge for resources.
Not sure what to expect but I'm looking forward to trying this out and I kinda dig survival games, so I can see this being something I get hooked on hopefully.
In the aftermath of a mysterious plane crash, you are stranded in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Alone, without any means to call for help, you must do what you can to survive.
Stranded Deep is a lot of fun. It took me a bit of time to figure out the controls but I found the tutorials to be quite engaging and helpful. I like to imagine I'm Tom Hanks in Castaway as I'm playing it. Been enjoying my time on the first island hunting crabs for meat, setting up a camp fire to cook and I'm currently living off the coconuts I can find in trees for drinks because I haven't fully figured out how to collect water yet for drinking, I'm trying not to use any guides.
So I'd definitely say I got a few hours in at this point, I can easily say this is a game I'll continue to play way past that mark. Depending on your interests and if you like survival games, I'd for sure recommend it. It's a bit 'grindy' as you'd expect from this genre but I can't say it's something that bothers me and I feel like for a game like this it makes sense as the whole point is it's going to take me time to gather resources, figure things out and just survive basically. Everything feels as immersive as I'd hoped it would. I have been really impressed with the overall atmosphere, music and visuals.
On to the next randomized game, after taking Stranded Deep out and randomizing the entire list again I got JUMANJI: The Video Game:

So yeah I gave Jumanji a solid go and I can see why it mostly has negative/mixed reviews. I wouldn't even necessarily say it's a bad game myself, just repetitive and pretty generic. Also feels pretty outdated graphically. I could see it being fun if you had a group of friends to play with you for a laugh and didn't take it too seriously. I think if it had more varied combat, it could have been a lot more engaging to play.
With that being said, I didn't hate playing it for a few hours. There was just nothing that was really motivating me to continue I guess beyond that point as I felt like I'd experienced everything the game has to offer by then. I will say in my first session I earned a ton of trophies on PS4, I had like 21% complete by end of the first level I tried. So I imagine it's an easy game to fully complete if that appeals to you although I didn't deep dive the list when I was done with it.
Randomize time once again! This time around I got Back 4 Blood which on a glance does look like it has potential to be a fun game to play.
May just go at it Solo though, I haven't decided yet. Depends how fun it is with randoms as I remember that Left 4 Dead was pretty difficult.
