John Cena underwent surgery today to remove bone chips in his elbow, according to a report at WWE.com

Dr. James Andrews removed several pieces of bone cartilage from Cena’s elbow through a scope.

According to WWE, it will likely take four to six weeks for Cena to recover from a surgery of that nature.

We’ll post an update when more information becomes available, but this would effectively keep John Cena out of action through next month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

WWE initially stated that it would likely take four to six weeks for Cena to recover from a surgery of that nature. The report now states that he is expected to recover in two to three weeks. Another update on his recovery time is expected be released Thursday when he is reevaluated.

Cena is currently scheduled to appear at Thursday’s NXT TV taping from Winter Park, Florida. No word on whether the surgery will affect this appearance.
