You just need a short effective moveset. Orton has some forearm shots, stomps the inverted headlock backbreaker and the RKO. You need a devastating finisher as well to make it big. I don't know why Hogan's leg drop is different to anyone else's :disgust: But overall mic skills are more important like I said in the earlier post.

Explain why the Undertaker walks on the ropes
Because it adds to his mystique. A man that large doing something that very few people do? Very impressive, and only adds to his "unnatural" ability.

...it's obviously more about mic skills than ring work
Then explain how the Undertaker has managed to be a main-eventer for 15 years.

I say wrestling and techinical in ring skills, i mean personally I am not that big of a fan of the talking and talking and talking instead of wrestling sure it would be boring show if it was only wrestling and no storylines and feuds to talk about but I was a real fan of the back and forth wrestling style which my favorites where.

HHH (he can put on a good match)
Benoit
Eddie
Kurt
HBK
Jericho (classic in WCW..)

anyway, IMO think that they should not be just talk talk talk they should be able to at least do more moves than JOHN CENA AND HULK HOGAN IN THE RING. which together is about i dunno 10 > ? and thats being generous ? :shifty:

Talent and passion for the wrestling business itself is what truly deserves a main event spot, nothing else can compare to that! :ermm:

John Cena had the mic skills, the wrestling talent and the passion for the business and he got to the main event. So basically the three main ingredients of getting to the top of the ladder are: Mic Skills, Talent and passion.

Maybe I missed something but when did Cena have wrestling talent?
I watched him when he was the 'wrestling Prototype' and he still had no wrestling talent, when he was 'the rookie' he had no wrestling talent, watched him as a rapper he still had no wrestling talent and even now he still has none so when did he have wrestling talent?
Only talent in the ring he has is certain people like HBK and Umaga can carry him to a good match nothing else.
Other than that I agree with you.

Umm, maybe you missed it but John Cena has been the best wrestler in the WWE for the last 3 years. You can't find me another guy who has put on as many quality matches as Cena. Not one.

Could you explain how Umaga has talent, but not Cena?

Are you serious? Do you even know what a 'good match' is? Wow.
First off Umaga can wrestle circles and squares around Cena. Second he's been in the top spot for 3 years he hasn't been the best WRESTLER for 3 years. Just because the writers decide to make him look like a better wrestler doesn't mean he is, they made Chris Benoit tap out to Cena do you think that's believable? Or do you think Cena is a better wrestler than him too just because Benoit only got the title once? Maybe he's better than Benjamin because Cena has had the title and Benjamin hasn't...right?
Are you saying that because Umaga is 400 or so lbs that he is a worst wrestler than Cena? Maybe Cena is a better wrestler than Joe because Joe is fat and has rolls over rolls right?
I respect the guy but I dont see in any way shape or form how he has any wrestling ability. He is ok at best and I'm being generous.
I forgot to name you the guys who put on better quality matches.
Undertaker,HBK,HHH,Matt Hardy,CM Punk,Morrison,Benjamin,Jericho,MVP,Edge. That was just off the top of my head. Should I name the guys from TNA and ROH too? Should I name Divas/Knockouts too?

Yep

Do you even know what a 'good match' is? Wow.
Yep. It's what Cena has been doing for the last three years.

Jericho, Angle, HHH, RVD, Edge, Umaga, HBK, Lashley, Orton...he's had good matches with them all.

First off Umaga can wrestle circles and squares around Cena.
You didn't explain how or why you think that.

Second he's been in the top spot for 3 years he hasn't been the best WRESTLER for 3 years.
He's been both.

Just because the writers decide to make him look like a better wrestler doesn't mean he is, they made Chris Benoit tap out to Cena do you think that's believable?
Considering we're discussing a scripted entertainment medium, I'll go ahead and say yes.

Or do you think Cena is a better wrestler than him too just because Benoit only got the title once? Maybe he's better than Benjamin because Cena has had the title and Benjamin hasn't...right?
No, he's better than Benjamin because Benjamin is constantly lost in the ring, has poor psychology, sells terribly, uses poor transitions, and is clueless on how to get heat in a match from fans, without resorting to high risk moves.

And I'm a huge Shelton Benjamin fan.

Are you saying that because Umaga is 400 or so lbs that he is a worst wrestler than Cena?
I've never said Umaga is a bad wrestler. I think he is a very good wrestling. But better than Cena? No.

Maybe Cena is a better wrestler than Joe because Joe is fat and has rolls over rolls right?
No, Cena is better than Joe because Joe is an average, at best, wrestler.

But hey, why don't you take your response to the Official Cena thread, and we can hash it out there.

All around I think MVP deserves the main event spot the most because obviously he is gold on the mic and even better in the ring he kind of reminds me of Bret Hart and I believe people will pay to see him lose if he were champion.

Cena is the epitome of the six tools of professional wrestling I mentioned earlier. That is why he is a great professional wrestler, a main-eventer, a future Hall of Famer, and someone who will go down as one of the true greats of the business.

I respect your opinion but wow Cena over Joe? Five Star matches:
Joe - 1 or 2 (forgot if Joe vs. Punk 2 was a 5 star)
Cena - 0
Cena does sell good but that don't make him a good wrestler, just a good actor.
Yeah well lets leave it here this aint the point of the thread anyways, I know you have your opinion I just disagree with it.

Sorry for my messed up replies but my phone is being a bitch. Anyways opinions aren't facts, I guess you have a different view about what good wrestlers are.

Id say its a combo of in-ring ability, charisma, mic skills, hard work, respect for the business and being able to sell, and the ability to listen to the crowd to turn a match from a good one to a great one, As for Cena IMO he is a main eventer for his mic skills charisma i wouldn't say his in-ring ability was that great but it isn't shit either. When Cena has good matches its coz he is not bad in the ring and he is facing a not to bad wrestler say Jeff, Kennedy etc, But when Cena has great matches it's down to who his opponent is say if its HBK, HHH, Orton they can carry virtually anyone and the can make a match look amazing no matter who they have in the ring for example HBK vs Ric Flair wm24, Flair IMO is a legend and fantastic but he is old and not as nimble, strong, or as fit as he use to be hence HBK carried him the match was mint. Thats what happens when Cena has great matches he is helped by the opponent he has, But I'm not taking anything away from Cena he is in the main event a and deserves to be there. My point is it takes a number of thing not just in ring ability to get in the main event and stay there.

The ability to connect with the fans will earn you a main event spot. If you can connect with the fans consistently you will be given the opportunity. It doesn't matter how you do it.

Keeping that main event spot is much harder. You have to prove that you can make the company money.

Dammit, Cenamark!

Yeah... What Cenamark said which was basically what I had in mind.

Also, sleeping with the owner's daughter helps >_>
