Ok, under each paragraph where I have GO TO PICTURE X
Is a link to the picture

Ok. I'm going to walk you through this...

FIRST... Shut down Norton (Right click on the tray icon and hit quit or disable or somethign) AND McAfee (Same thing).

Go to your Control Panel it should be under your start button. Double click "Add and Remove Programs"

Find McAfee and hit uninstall... It should walk you through... It'll tell you to restart your computer.. but not yet... Norton is also under there... But it leaves parts of Norton that could conflict with Kaspersky and make your computer slow or crash, which is bad.

Then download and install the Norton Removal Tool here:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Save it to your desktop and double click it and it will walk you through Nortons install.

It will probably prompt you to restart your computer... Do so.

Step 2: Download from http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ CCleaner.

Hit the "Run Cleaner" Button as SHOWN IN PICTURE ONE. It may take a while depending on how much junk... But its a safe program and will delete only crap you do not need. It also deletes alot of places like temporary files that could have malware...

Then hit "Issues" on the side like IN PICTURE TWO... Then hit "Scan For Issues" and when it finishes hit "Fix Issues" and then delete everything and save the backup file somewhere.. Do the scan twice as some may not get deleted the first time.

Step 3: Step 3: Download Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 from:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_kaspersky_antivir/

It says its a Beta, but I am using it and its 100% stable (ONLY IF YOU'VE UNINSTALLED ALL YOUR OTHER ANTI-VIRUSES AND USED THE NORTON REMOVAL TOOL IF YOU'VE HAD NORTON)

The installation should walk you through it.

After you've installed it. Restart your computer.

You should now see this GO TO PICTURE TREE FIDDY (THREE):

http://i12.tinypic.com/4uk9rp0.jpg

Go to "Update"

and then hit "Update Databases"

While its doing this... Go to "Settings"

GO TO PICTURE FOUR

http://i9.tinypic.com/5xsjzbl.jpg

Go to "Pro-Active Defense" First... There's 3 things here... Application Analyzer scans applications incase they could be harmeful, though sometimes it detects a good program that COULD be doing something harmful but actually isn't. I have it checked, as I'll know if a programs doing something fishy... You might not, but it doesn't give too many popups but your mom may also do something fishy, so maybe turn it off.

Application Integrity induces more popups and their more detailed.. I have it turned off, I suggest you do too. So just Uncheck it and the other one if you want and hit "Apply".

Now go to "Scan" and under it click "My Computer"

GO TO PICTURE 5

http://i12.tinypic.com/6bupl5w.jpg

There you should see a slider that says "Normal" and you can raise it to high and low... We're going to do better. But before that, hit the little dot I circled saying "Prompt For Action During Scan". Because we want this malware gone right away.. Then hit "Customize.

Now this is pretty easy, you just copy my settings for these 3 pictures..

GO TO PICTURE SIX

PICTURE SEVEN

PICTURE EIGHT

http://i14.tinypic.com/5y9amur.jpg

One you've done so hit "Ok" then hit "Apply" and "Ok" once again lol.

Kaspersky 7 is set.

But incase your infected with some spyware, (Your sure your computer doesn't have ONE anti-spyware?)

Lets get some removal for spyware.

Go to www.ewido.net and download AVG Anti-Spyware. The installation will walk you through, you get a 30 day trial (Free version still allows updates and scans, it doesn't have realtime protection though) like Kaspersky... Open it up (Restart computer if it asks) and hit "Update" and after its done.. Close it.

Go to www.superantispyware.com and download SUPER Anti-Spyware. FREE Home Edition. Do the same thing.. Installation will walk you through... Then (Restart computer if it asks) go to "Check For Updates", have it update.. This is where the programs cool, it will tell you the malware added to the database with each update heh.

If theres no more prompts for "Restart the computer to complete installation"..

Open up Kaspersky 7. Go to "Scan" go to "My Computer" and hit "Start Scan" , hit it twice and a popup window showing the scan will show... Otherwise it will sit pretty quiet scanning and have a popup if malware is found..

Open up AVG Anti-Spyware and go to "Scan" and go to "Scan My Computer" or "Full Computer Scan" or something of the like.

Open up SUPER Anti-Spyware, hit "Perform Complete Scan" and hit next...

You've got 3 scanners running so I suggest leaving it... Delete or quarantine what each one finds.

God what alot of typing... Even though every computer I fix... I do this.. and it takes like 15-30 minutes to get to the scanning... I hope you can get it done that fast too.

Its OK, your database is from today. So unless you have new malware just released minutes ago (Which is VERY unlikely) then your fine. If you've ever installed Kaspersky before you get a 30 day trial, ONLY once though, which lets you update for 30 days... So I guess you don't get one. Anyway, just continue and get to the scanning... I see Kaspersky's already found a few threats.

Remember, do this after you've done a scan with Kaspersky, AVG Anti-spyware and SUPER.
And if you choose to get AVS (Active Virus Shield) or Anti-Vir, uninstall Kaspersky FIRST before you download these.

Then after you can choose to

A. Buy Kaspersky from www.kaspersky.com . Tell your mom its like 50$ (Cheaper then repairing your computer). And, I think Staples might have like 20-30$ rebates. I can look into it if you want.
B. Download a free AV that doesn't have all the features of their paid versions. I'd suggest

www.activevirusshield.com

It's Kaspersky but without the Web AV, Pro-Active Defense, Email guard and other little tidbits. It uses Kaspersky definitions meaning it will catch ALMOST everything Kaspersky does.. It won't catch the things caught by Kaspersky 7's heuristic and rootkit scanner though.

Payings always better lol. But like I said, if thats not an option these 2 will do fine.. Just stay off the porn (Unless its here lol)

Or www.free-av.com

It's called Anti-Vir and it also doesn't have Email Guard, but also doesn't include spyware/adware (Which is fine since you have AVG Anti-spyware and SUPER) protection and other things which I forget because I don't use it. But I installed it on my friends machine before I learned about Active Virus Shield and he hasn't complained once. Get the Personal Edition Classic (Free)
