Your least favourite commentators (individual/teams)?

As far as modern history goes, Booker T and Corey Graves lead the pack for me. For very different reasons as well.

Book takes the cake for rambling and saying off the wall dumb shit, in addition to his voice itself being pretty grating. Corey on the other hand tries too hard to be the smartest guy at the table and put himself over at the expense of his partners. He forces contrarian takes, which is pretty well established trope for heel commentators, but he doesn't have the same penchant for self-deprication and parody that former greats like Bobby Heenan and Jerry Lawler had. He's really just distracting and adds very little value as a commentator to me.

JR definitely also deserves a mention. He's obviously way out of touch and oftentimes can't help from burying the product. That is when he's managing to focus on the action and not trailing off on his own side tangents. He's nowhere near the commentator he was in the 90s and 2000s, and thankfully he's not as much of the product these days.

Mark Madden - The job of the heel commentator is not to bury everyone and get yourself over. No one told Mark Madden that, for a year and a half.

Side story: My bud was an intern for him and basically sold him out and Madden's other interns as well, yes, I know this is a side story but he's a piece of shit in general. So, Double M sucks. And dude couldn't commentate for shit.

Currently I’d say Booker T, I genuinely like Booker but on commentary he’s just a bit much. I liked when he did Black Snow in TNA and his early commentary days on SmackDown/Raw, but these days not so much.

JBL was pretty brutal when he did regular commentary even though I liked it at first, but it got old fast. Same can be said for Graves, nothing against him personally though.

I would say Jericho whenever I watch Rampage and he’s on commentary I’m not a fan, but since I don’t watch Rampage enough it’s probably not fair for me to complain. When I have heard him on there he’s always screaming about something, which is annoying.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Jim Ross, I know he isn’t what he used to be but I still love the guy. I get why folks are down on him these days but it doesn’t bother me as much as it does others. I guess it helps I tune out commentary if I’m too into a match or something.

OG Kevin Gill was pretty bad whenever I watched GCW. I think he was universally loathed by the GCW fan base.

Also, I wouldn't rank him near the bottom but I loved Mike Tenay in WCW in his support role he had there as "The Professor" but couldn't stand him on PBP in TNA.

Kevin Patrick is up there for me currently.

Josh Mathews (especially his TNA run) was horrible for me. There was no excitement in a time Impact NEEDED excitement on the headset.

Vampiro is there too. He tried masking his commentary with a lot of cursing, but Matt Striker carried the load.



I'm sure there will be others to come to mind, and I hope there's a thread celebrating the good commentators in a positive light. But those 3 come to mind are at the bottom of my list personally.

Missy Hyatt. No insight. No knowledge of wrestling holds. Didn't have what it takes to be a heel commentator. She was a columnist for WCW Magazine and it felt like she had ADHD, changing the subject every sentence: "Don't ya'll think Scott Steiner is so cute? Mmmm...I like Cheerios."
