My honest opinion is that I've personally encountered plenty of people that are responsible with their guns, and obtain them legally for recreational/defense purposes. I don't think it's fair to take that away because some asshole goes apeshit. Like I said, tighten up some of the procedures to obtain them, and that's all that will ever happen. Assault rifles = no go in my mind, no need.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. A lot of my buddies prefer hunting with a bow because it's more of a challenge. I personally don't feel the need to possess a gun at all. I'm not from a big city, we don't have shootings, or drug problems that run rampant. I can only speak from my isolated little world where everyone is responsible with their possessions.

I feel you and it sucks for the people who are truly 100% responsible. But even for those who aren't intentionally using guns to harm others you have kids who wind up killing themselves/someone else on accident, the Dick Cheney accidentally shot my buddy thing happens more than people realize, having your own weapon used against you during confrontation (statistically much more likely to happen than someone successfully defending themselves with the use of said firearm), ect ect. I just think they are too dangerous to hand out to everyone with a photo ID. I've concluded long ago that most people are idiots. I do not want said idiots armed with guns.

The problem is every solution opens up 15 other problems related to the issue. I think the country is too far in the forest to see the trees on this issue. People get so caught up arguing over stupid shit that the real problems don't even get discussed.

In a perfect world, guns aren't needed. But this isn't a perfect world, if equipping a Law enforcement officer with a gun, could save their lives it's fine. Handing it out to the public? Not my idea of sensible.

Very very true. Accidents with firearms happen a lot. I bet a big chunk of the number Jono posted are accident prone. If I had to vote on it, I'd vote no to firearms dude. This is just me but when a buddy brags about a new gun, I always think of him as less of a man. I don't know why, just makes them seem like a pussy in my eyes. I know that they will never go away, and the best way to go is tighten up the procedures to get it. The mental health thing you suggested is a great idea, and I'd throw in courses on gun safety(not just like a 2 hour one day course) In my perfect world, guns wouldn't exist. Just have to work with what we've got, and that's a pretty ancient law written by dudes that would have shit their pants with an assault rifle pointed at them. I think we can work our way around the law, and prohibit more from obtaining.

Who knows, I've been in ton of arguments with my buddies telling them that they don't need guns. They always argue that it's for protection, and they have families and what not. I can't tell them how to live their lives. Sure I don't agree, but I feel like if he wants to have one, so be it. I can't do anything about it, sucks.
