King of the Ring - Raw Final:
Kane vs. Chris Jericho
Makes sense to have a face vs. heel dynamic in the final. Basing this on the fact I think Cena is winning.

Cena wins. Most likely with some shenanigans maybe involving RVD and/or O'Haire.

Solid build to this, looking forward to it. Also as you know I would be, LOVING that you're giving O'Haire some more stuff to sink his teeth into now. Arc as to whether Kane attacked Van Dam, or whether O'Haire did, but he'll convince RVD to turn on Kane for stealing all the glory, or O'Haire somehow just takes both RVD and Kane apart. Legitimately pumped for any of these to happen.

Also digging some of the teams like Freaks and Geeks and Rhyno/Spanky stuff that you're building outside of PPV's.

Oh and justice for Kevin Nash. Hoping BIG SEXY gets a push when the weeklies hit.

The opening video has a voiceover from the towncrier who has been in the advertisement for this event over the last two months. He sits in front of a big throne within a castle, the walls displaying beautiful works of art and various weapons. The towncrier describes how he has been across all of the lands, searching far and wide for the very best, and he’s brought forth the four toughest men from the hills to the pond. The camera pans up to reveal that the man sitting on the throne is none other than Mr. McMahon. He tells the towncrier that tonight we will crown the next King of the Ring. As the towncrier outlines the final four: John Cena, Eddie Guerrero, Kane, and Chris Jericho - clips of them are shown in succession, highlighting their path to the event.

AND NOW; WWE PRESENTS A CO-BRANDED PRODUCTION, WWE KING OF THE RING

As the camera takes a glory shot of the packed arena in the Newcastle Arena, Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome us to the show. Ross outlines that tonight is a co-branded event, which means the team from Smackdown is here as well; the camera pans over to show Michael Cole and Tazz sitting at a second table at ringside.

J.R. hypes up Raw’s matches tonight - excitedly covering the Women’s Title contest, which will see Trish Stratus and Jazz collide in a WrestleMania rematch. We then throw it over to Michael Cole, he gives a warm welcome for Smackdown and says he’s ready to see the return of Kurt Angle to in-ring action this evening, and to find out who is going to be crowned the 2003 King of the Ring!

**BASIC THUGANOMICS**

Starting the show, it’ll be the first of three King of the Ring matches this evening, the men from Smackdown are going to kick this show off! Appearing at the top of the stage, dressed in a throwback Dangerous Alliance hoodie from War Games ‘92, JOHN CENA and PAUL HEYMAN arrive to boos from the audience. As Cena leads the way down to the ring, Heyman follows behind - the announcers cover how this is the biggest stage Cena has been on tonight, a chance to become King of the Ring and cement himself as a huge star on Smackdown.

**VIVA LA RAZA”**

Out next is EDDIE GUERRERO - but he doesn’t come through the entrance ramp as one might expect. From the side of the stage, the sound of a horn is heard, and the camera cuts to a live shot of Eddie driving a Ford Fairlane into the Newcastle Arena. Cole quips that Guerrero is driving the same car used in the James Bond film Die Another Day last year. Exiting the car, Eddie does a shimmy and slaps his chest, he tells the camera that he feels good. Tazz says he spoke with Eddie earlier and has confirmed that he is 100% healed from the ladder war at Judgment Day.

King of the Ring - Smackdown Final
John Cena (with Paul Heyman) vs. Eddie Guerrero

In the opening bout of the night, John Cena and Eddie Guerrero share an evenly matched contest. In the opening minutes of the contest, Guerrero taunts Cena, using his speed to escape the power of his opponent and trip him up into a situation where Cena is sent outside the ring. On the outside, Heyman embraces Cena, telling him to lock in and that Eddie will try to get in his head. Eddie shrugs, he sits on the middle rope and offers to help Cena get in, much to the amusement of the audience. Eddie and Cena lock up in the ring upon the reset, and Cena uses his strength to shove Eddie across the ring. He waves his hand in front of his face - telling Eddie that he cannot see him. In response, Eddie walks across the ring and slaps the taste out of Cena’s mouth, and the bout breaks down into a brawl.

While not the best wrestler on the roster, Cena does have the ability to brawl with the best of them and that is what is displayed during this match. He is able to power out of a few of Eddie’s moves and turn the chain wrestling into fist fights and transition into power moves. The finish for the match arrived at just after twelve minutes, both men had close calls for the finish toward the back half of the match. Eddie went for a Frog Splash at one point, but Cena rolled out of the way - and Eddie tucked his head to roll through! He turned back around and was caught in position for the Attitude Adjustment. Guerrero grabbed the referee by the shirt, and this disruption allowed him to slip free!

Both men ended up on the mat after a double clothesline spot in the middle of the ring. Paul Heyman was screaming on the outside of the ring, pleading with Cena to please get up and to finish this off now. Slowly, both men rose to their feet, they did a back and forth punch spot until Cena ducked and went for the AA. Eddie struggled, elbowing wildly to escape and slipped out the back yet again. He hit a combination of two hard punches before whipping Cena into the ropes. A dropkick followed and he knocked Cena down. Feeling confident as ever, Eddie ascended to the top rope and was preparing to go for the Frog Splash. However, Cena rose a little too quickly and Eddie had to shift to a cross body… which Cena caught in mid-air! A fantastic show of power as Cena roared, his teeth grinding together as he threw Eddie onto his shoulders and nailed the AA! A hook of the leg followed and Cena scored the win.

It’s a successful night out in Newcastle so far for Paul Heyman, his newest client advancing to the final of the King of the Ring, and setting themselves up for the biggest match of their young career. With his music blaring in the background, Cena refuses to have his hand raised by the referee, telling him that the job is not done yet, and that he still has one more to go.

Cena exits the ring, joining Paul Heyman on the outside, and they exchange a curt nod between the two of them, before heading up the entrance ramp. This duo is one win away from a life-changing moment, and the focus on the face of John Cena shows that he understands what this would mean for him. Heyman praises his performance, telling Cena that he just needs to win one more match and it’s all his for the taking. We keep the camera on Cena and Heyman making their exit as we fade out…

In the backstage area, CHRIS JERICHO is standing by a monitor, having just watched the previous match. As one half of the Raw Final, Jericho is scouting his potential opponent for later in the evening, should get make it past the Big Red Machine. While standing at the monitor, Jericho is approached by THE COACH! He doesn’t look thrilled to be approached, but Jericho allows him to ask a few questions. They discuss the previous match, and Jericho says that if the only thing Cena has is power, then this road to the crown is going to be a cakewalk.

Coach asks Jericho if he’s looking past Kane and winning the Raw bracket, to which Jericho replies that he has been on a generational run this year - and tonight he takes another step to solidifying himself as an icon of this business. As a smirk appeared on his face, Jericho spoke directly to his long-time rival Shawn Michaels through the camera. Tonight would be Jericho’s crowning moment; he is going to walk out there in front of a sold-out building and beat two men in one night - something he’s done before - and become the King of the Ring. Afterwards, he is going to bring the crown back to the States and shove it right in his face!

With J.R. and Lawler doing narration, we see a pre-tape from earlier today when RIC FLAIR arrived at the arena. He entered via a limousine with a private driver and was joined by BATISTA as his personal backup. The other two members of Evolution have not made the trip across the pond; those not here tonight are expected to be the crew that runs Monday Night Raw back in the States tomorrow night. Flair looks confident as he enters the building, his finest suit and one hell of a protector with him. J.R. ponders what role, if any, Batista will play in the match later tonight for the United States Championship.

~ WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP ~
TRISH STRATUS - VERSUS - JAZZ
The package starts by showing the WrestleMania 19 bout between the two women in the upcoming match. It’s a fierce bout, and in the end, Trish Stratus thwarts the Black Diamond’s attempts to capture the title belt on the grandest stage of them all. We then see clips of the carnage Jazz has left across Raw ever since that fateful night. Woman after woman is torn to pieces, and it ends with the brutal beatdown backstage on the champion at Backlash.

The package then focuses on the recent buildup, Trish Stratus being unable to compete due to having a hurt knee and needing a crutch for mobility. It shows the bits where Jazz repeatedly called the champion out and how she feels like Trish is a coward for ducking her. The video concludes with a clip of Trish accepting this match and then the big brawl on Raw, where Eric Bischoff makes this Falls Count Anywhere.

**SMOOTH**

The most feared woman in the WWE today, JAZZ enters the arena to a loud rush of boos from this English audience. This has been a night she has been demanding since her loss at WrestleMania, and now the time has come. There are no signs of nervous energy on the face of the challenger - confidently striding to the ring with TEDDY LONG right by her side. Lawler discusses how there is so much pressure on Jazz tonight, but this is what she asked for. It’s time to step up and do the job against the very best in the business. J.R. suggests that diamonds are made with great pressure, and that’s what this match is going to be for Jazz.

**TIME TO ROCK & ROLL**

You would think that she were in her hometown, the roar from the audience is that loud for the WWE Women’s Champion. Dressed in a classic pink and black gear, a throwback to the Hart Foundation, we see TRISH STRATUS at the top of the entrance ramp. J.R. immediately points out the knee brace that is around the right knee of the champion, and the camera zooms in on it. She might be able to walk without a crutch, but Trish is still feeling the pain inflicted by the challenger. Trish heads down to the ring, her eyes on the challenger, and she throws the belt to the ground before sliding into the ring and tackling the challenger right away!

WWE Women’s Championship Match:
~ Falls Count Anywhere Match ~
Trish Stratus vs. Jazz (with Theodore Long)

This is by no means your average women’s match in 2003. For a feud that has been built up over several months now, Trish and Jazz are given complete freedom to engage in a wild brawl, as you would see from the men. The fast start to the contest, triggered by Trish tackling Jazz off the bell. Fists are flying and they quickly spill to the outside of the ring, Trish chasing after Jazz, slamming her into the barricade with a handful of her hair. The referee cannot do anything as Trish pounds away on Jazz, backing up for a moment and charging forward with a big lariat to send the challenger over the barricade and into the crowd. Theodore Long can’t believe that the challenger has been wiped off the map to start this match, and he shouts at Jazz to fight back.

Within the crowd, Jazz throws a fan off their chair and uses it against Stratus! They continue to walk and brawl within the crowd, Jazz scoring a two count after hitting a powerslam on the cement floor. A little while later on, Trish catapults Jazz into a popcorn station, which explodes and sends popcorn everywhere to the roar of the crowd. As they circle around the arena, Jazz and Trish find themselves fighting up the steps of stairs toward a higher section of available seats. In a scary moment, Jazz cracks Trish with a forearm to the face and appears to attempt a powerbomb! Trish, somewhat thankfully, fights clear of this, and they brawl back down the stairs toward the tech arena.

With wires and technology all over the place, Jazz fights out of a DDT situation and hits a snake eyes on Trish onto a trashcan nearby. The challenger then grabs a set of cables and whips Trish repeatedly before finally hitting that powebomb through a table. In a shocking moment for the challenger, Trish gets a shoulder up and the fight continues. Jazz then drags Trish all the way around back to the stage, booting her in the face, causing the champion to roll down the entrance ramp. Once they are back at ringside, Jazz rips up the mats around one section of the ring and attempts the Bitch Clamp! Trish wriggles free and ends up in a pinning combination for a two count! They fight back into the ring now, Trish snaps a Chick Kick to the head of the challenger and also gets a two count.

The final quarter of the match takes place within and just outside the ring. After both women battered each other with chairs, trash cans, kendo sticks, and even another table - we move to the finish. Trish stacks a bunch of chairs up in the ring and sets Jazz on the top turnbuckle. She goes for the Stratusphere but Jazz uses her strength to block! In a wild scene, Jazz brings Trish up into her grip… leaping from the turnbuckle with a powerbomb onto the chairs! The champion has her body twisted and screams in pain… but the challenger rips her by the hair into the middle of the ring, a crazed look in her eyes. Jazz does a throat slit and hooks the arms of the champion - Bitch Clamp! She flips her over and yells at the referee to make the count. Three seconds later, Jazz has achieved vindication.

Winner: And NEW WWE Women’s Champion - Jazz @ 11:52

Pressure makes diamonds, and no more pressure could’ve been added tonight for the challenger - now champion! There arena is an utter mess, the ringside area is torn apart from this bout. Jazz has gained redemption from her previous loss and claimed the title that she has been hunting for since late February. The four-month journey is over, and the Black Diamond can finally say that she is the WWE Women’s Champion.

Sitting in the ring, Jazz has the title handed to her and she clutches it tightly, refusing to let he arm leave the tight squeeze to have it raised. After Teddy Long speaks with her, Jazz gets to her feet, selling the impact of the match, and allows the referee to raise her hand. A set of pyro goes off in the background to celebrate the changing of the guard in the women’s division. J.R. asks who could possibly stop this version of Jazz - so dominant a force, so determined and not afraid to go too far to get her hands on the gold.

We then cut to a shot of Trish Stratus on the outside of the ring, her head in her hands and what looks to be tears forming. The former champion fought hard, but she couldn’t get the best of the Black Diamond in the rematch. Still the two top women in the division, their futures could be intertwined with each other as neither will want to give the other an inch in the battle for the coveted title.

VIDEO PACKAGE

The sound of the dedicated theme song for the next Raw exclusive pay-per-view, Bad Blood, begins to play as various images appear on the screen. The first is a shot of Triple H walking through the halls right before a match with the World Heavyweight Championship wrapped around his waist.

“BACK OFF, I'LL TAKE YOU ON”

In a quick flash, we see Stone Cold Steve Austin hitting a Stunner on multiple people, standing tall and drinking beers in the middle of the ring to much fanfare.

“HEADSTRONG TO TAKE ON ANYONE”

Booker T makes his entrance to much fanfare, pyro bursting from the stage as the camera cuts to multiple signs in the arena held by fans which say his name.

“I KNOW THAT YOU ARE WRONG”

Clips of Shawn Michaels hitting Sweet Chin Music and posing in the ring.

“HEADSTRONG, WE'RE HEADSTRONG”

A montage of Evolution’s remaining members exiting a helicopter; Orton and Batista carrying the World Tag Team Titles.

In rapid succession, we see clips of Jazz destroying local wrestlers and her continued path of destruction since returning to the WWE.

Kane hits a chokeslam; Rob Van Dam connects with the frog splash.

A final clip is shown of Chris Jericho standing in the middle of an empty ring, the camera pans down his arm slowly… revealing a trail of blood.

**BREAK DOWN THE WALLS**

The sound of the countdown triggers a wave of boos, and it only grows when CHRIS JERICHO steps out onto the stage here in London. Jericho looks smug, walking down to the ring with supreme confidence, much to the displeasure of the live audience. J.R. says that he cannot question the results for Jericho in the last few months, but his actions are another question entirely.

Once Jericho enters the ring, he climbs onto the second rope and poses to another wave of boos from the audience. Flicking his hair back, Jericho smiles and tells them to “shove it” before stepping off the second rope and backing up against the ropes.

**SLOW CHEMICAL**

Suddenly, an eruption of fire explodes from the stage, and the entire building turns blood red as the boos turn to cheers. As if emerging from the depths of hell, KANE appears surrounded by flame. Allowing the camera the chance to get what is surely an iconic shot, Kane slowly makes his way down to the ring, the fire burning behind him, and the arena still blood red.

On commentary, Lawler questions Kane’s involvement in the parking lot assault on RVD, which has left him unable to compete in weeks and caused him to be removed from this tournament. J.R. retorts that he doesn’t believe Kane had anything to do with what happened to Van Dam, but Lawler points out that the only reason Kane got a spot in the King of the Ring tournament was RVD’s withdrawal.

King of the Ring - Raw Final
Chris Jericho vs. Kane

A fairly standard big man against somewhat smaller man match in the final for Monday Night Raw. There is no appearance of Sean O’Haire here tonight, but he is mentioned repeatedly on commentary, and both J.R. and Lawler question if the Devil’s Advocate is watching back in the States. In the opening exchange of the match, Kane grabs Jericho and tosses him into the corner, unloading with punches and hitting a hard uppercut that causes Jericho to fall through the middle rope and to the outside of the ring. They don’t spend much time on the outside. Kane brings Jericho back into the ring, whips him into the ropes, and tries for a back body drop, however, Jericho has other ideas and turns it into a swinging neckbreaker.

Just before the ten-minute mark, this bout came to an end. After Kane flew from the top rope and connected with a big flying clothesline, he stood up and raised his hand in the air. It was clear what Kane was calling for, the crowd rising to their feet, as the Big Red Machine stalked his opponent. Once Jericho got back to his feet, he turned around and was grabbed around the throat by Kane. Up he went into the air for the chokeslam, but Jericho wriggled free. Quickly, Jericho ran toward the ropes and hit a springboard backward… only to be caught by Kane! They struggled for a moment, Kane trying to set Jericho for the Tombstone until Jericho was able to sneak out the back. He shoved Kane forward, and he collided with the referee!

The moment that Jericho noticed the referee was down, he kicked Kane below the belt with a hard and sharp kick! Gloating about his actions, Jericho taunted the crowd and shouted that this was his ring and he would be crowned king. While Jericho appeared in the best position, the crowd erupted with cheers - Jericho’s face showed on the screen looking confused. He turned around, and the camera caught his reaction as Shawn Michaels kicked his head off with Sweet Chin Music! Michaels fired it like a bullet and delivered three crotch chops for good measure before exiting the ring. A few moments later, Kane was back on his feet, and he would take advantage of the intrusion, hitting a chokeslam on Jericho and scoring the three count to advance to the final against John Cena.

Winner: And advancing to the King of the Ring Final - Kane @ 09:56

On commentary, J.R. is losing his mind over the finish to the Raw final. He points out that Shawn Michaels has flown halfway across the globe just to screw Chris Jericho out of the King of the Ring tournament. He had no match tonight, he had no reason to be in London other than to do this! Shawn Michaels hates Jericho so much that he traveled the globe to spite his rival! Payback for Jericho, costing him the World Title a few months ago at Backlash.

While the commentators process what has happened, Kane has his hand raised in victory and confirms his spot in the King of the Ring final against Smackdown’s John Cena. The Big Red Machine steps over the top rope and exits the ring, knowing his job is not done tonight. The discussion on commentary turns to Kane and Cena. Lawler is hoping that Kane can bring it home for Raw, whilst also pointing out how big a talking point this would be if Kane won the tournament in place of RVD. The camera now cuts back to the ring, Jericho slowly sitting up, clutching his jaw… realising what has just happened.

J.R. quips that the bad blood between Jericho and Michaels is so toxic that the person who survives this feud may ultimately just be the last man standing.

Backstage, Paul Heyman is with John Cena in the trainer’s room ahead of his second match in the King of the Ring tournament later this evening. Cena is drinking a bottle of water and is informed by Heyman that the Raw final is done, and that Kane has advanced to the final. Cena’s facial expression shifts, he chuckles, drinks the rest of his water, and says it’s time to go to work. Heyman tells Cena that he still has time before the final, and he should keep resting, it’ll take everything he has to beat Kane tonight.

Cena states that he isn’t worried about Kane. He’s been telling people for months that his time is now - this is his moment to cement his name in the history books. Glaring at Heyman momentarily, Cena notes that he aligned with Paul for this type of situation. Promises were made, words were spoken, and tonight it’s put up or shut up time for Cena… and for Heyman. Heyman nods, and he tells Cena that this will be his crowning moment and to trust him, the hour is almost upon us, and when it comes, Cena will be the man.

From the view of a helicopter flying over Denver, Colorado, we get a nighttime view of the Pepsi Center. The theme song for the event “Price to Play” by Staind begins to play over the footage.

Footage shows a black car zooming through the streets of Denver, we get a quick flash to see the person in the back of the car has the WWE Championship sitting next to them.

Focus then shifts to a clip Rey Mysterio hitting the 619, and then a clip of Billy Kidman soaring through the air in a Shooting Star Press.

Back at ringside, Michael Cole and Tazz take over as the announce team for the upcoming match, hyping it up as a dual-branded affair between Raw and Smackdown.

**LINE IN THE SAND**

At first, it looks as if the Nature Boy will enter alone, RIC FLAIR proudly strutting out wearing one of his classic robes, but a few seconds later, BATISTA marches right behind his mentor. Only two members of Evolution have made the trip across the pond (anyone on this show from Raw will not appear tomorrow night back in America). On his way to the ring, Flair goads a few of the local fans, calling someone fat and shouting that he could take his girlfriend easily. Flair enters the ring and spins around so the camera can get a full 360-degree shot of his robe, a beautiful dark red with jewels covering the back of it.

Described on commentary as the hardest working champion in the game today, and the applause he receives is respectful of that. REY MYSTERIO pops out from the left side of the stage and gets a big pop from the live crowd. The title belt firmly around his waist, a title he has held since February, Mysterio makes his way down to the ring for yet another title defence. Cole explains how we came to this point for a Raw star to challenge for the belt, citing the weeks leading up to it and the rivalry between Bischoff and Stephanie McMahon.

When Rey gets down to ringside, he has a quick exchange with Batista, the two men facing off and Evolution’s animal towering over him. Mysterio does not show any fear - unclipping his title and raising it in the air, and then slides into the ring and does the same to Flair.

WWE United States Championship Match:
Rey Mysterio vs. Ric Flair (with Batista)

In what is a WWE first time ever - Rey Mysterio and Ric Flair collide in a fantastic back-and-forth match. The role of Batista on the outside is limited, likely due to the interference that occurred in the previous match. His involvement is more of an intimidator toward Rey at times, but he never gets physically involved. Throughout the duration of the contest, Flair would apply his famous submission hold three times, and Mysterio was able to connect with the 619 once. When Rey hit the 619, he was delayed in springboarding back into the ring by Batista moving closer to him. This slight distraction allowed Flair to evade the incoming Mysterio and land an attack of his own. This match was given fifteen solid minutes of action and was well worth it for the fans.

The finish of the match sees Mysterio caught in the Figure Four Leg Lock for the third time in the contest. The pain he is in must be intense. As the luchador cries out in pain, his title hanging in the balance now, the camera focuses on Flair, yelling at Mysterio to quit. A wave of emotion begins to pour in from the crowd as they try to lend support to the fan favourite champion. Rey tosses and turns, his head shaking, eyeing the ropes and the safety that they would provide him in this position. After fighting through the pain and finding something within himself - Mysterio gets his fingers on the ropes and forces the break from the referee.

Flair does let go of the hold, but he knows he’s in the best position to win this match. He taunts Rey from across the ring, strutting toward him and doing his trademark “Woo”, much to the dismay of the audience. Grabbing at the leg of the champion, Flair pulls Rey into the middle of the ring and tries to apply his famous hold again. This time, however, Mysterio fights to his feet and hits a step-up enziguri to the head of the Nature Boy! Flair stumbles backward and falls down against the middle rope, drawing a roar from the crowd. Mysterio waves his hand in the air and begins his run… only for his leg to give out. The champion clutches at his leg, in a great deal of pain, as Flair shakes off the cobwebs. A sneer appears on the face of Flair, he rushes right over to the prone champion, hoping to sink his claws in one final time… but Rey pulls him in for a cradle pin, and gets the shock three count.

Winner: And STILL WWE United States Champion - Rey Mysterio @ 15:12

In a completely unexpected fashion, Rey Mysterio pulls victory out of the fire tonight in London! In the immediate aftermath of the count, Flair pops up to his feet and argues with the referee. He claims it was only a two count, but the referee stands by their call and says that the bout is over! Flair kicks the ring ropes and storms out of ringside, Batista following behind with an ice-cold stare back at Rey.

Meanwhile, Mysterio sits inside the ring near the ropes, his head down for a moment, until the referee comes over and assists Rey in standing up. The WWE United States Championship remains with the luchador, and he proudly holds it up high, using the ring ropes to stay vertical as he sells the punishment he took from the Figure Four Leg Lock. Yet another notch in the reign for Rey, his run over the last four months building on the history of the United States Title.

Rey exits the ring with the help of the referee, and then tells him that it’s okay. The referee steps away, and Mysterio triumphantly walks up the ramp on his own power, leaving as a champion should after a successful title defence. The screen fades to black, a final shot of Rey at the top of the ring with his title belt burned into our minds.

Following the video package, we return to the ring, which has a table setup along with three kegs of beer and a bunch of cans as well on smaller tables. The crowd jumped to their feet with excitement shortly thereafter as Stone Cold Steve Austin made his way down to the ring. Dressed in a special edition merch shirt, Austin takes control of the ring and asks the crowd if they are having a good night so far. He gets a big pop and replies that he’s happy to hear it. He spoke about how when this event was announced, he wasn’t sure if the powers that be would want him to come over here, as he’s not exactly a typical representative for the board room types. Austin declared that he was not the type of person to kiss ass and suck up to some nameless suit or idiot politician, he is who he is and everyone knows it. You can take it or leave it, but Steve Austin is as honest as they come.

Austin then spoke about how he originally had planned to be in the King of the Ring tournament so he could make sure he had a spot on the card to perform for the good people in London, but someone backstage decided he didn’t earn a spot. Boos reigned in from the crowd, Austin paused and let them unleash a bit of heat towards Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff, before continuing. Stone Cold said nothing was going to keep him from being here tonight - and so he thought, why not bring a bit of USA here to the UK.

Behind him are three kegs, and Austin explained that in one was an American beer, an English beer and then a beer from a mystery location. What we’re going to do tonight is have a taste of them all, and Austin said he is going to pick a few fans from the crowd to join him for a cold one! At this point, Eric Bischoff stormed out from the backstage area, his headset still on his head, and he entered the ring with Austin.

Bischoff was furious - telling Austin that he’s not going to invite fans from the crowd to drink alcohol. The insurance company would have a fit, and the WWE could get sued if one of these idiot Brits falls down a flight of stairs trying to get home after having a drink with Austin. Continuing to shout, Bischoff claims he didn’t even want Austin here tonight. This is a big event, a pay-per-view in London, the King of the Ring, a night that will change someone’s life - and Bischoff isn’t going to let it be ruined by some stupid beer drinking sideshow.

In response, Austin asks Bischoff if he cares what the good people here in London want. Bischoff quips that he cares, and that’s why he has done everything to keep Austin off this card because he knows how much of a problem he can be. Bischoff doesn’t want Austin to ruin this event - FOR THE FANS! That draws heat from the crowd, and Austin tells Bischoff that he understands and he’ll leave, he’s not going to stir the pot. However, since he came all this way, and since he promised the crowd at least one drink, he wants Bischoff to have a beer with him.

At first, Bischoff declines, but Austin continues to pressure him - asking the crowd if they want to see Stone Cold have an ice-cold beer with Eric Bischoff. They pop for that. Eventually, Bischoff agrees and they share a can of beer. Austin skulls his in one go while Bischoff sips his and then tosses the can out of the ring, his face showing a lot of disgust from the beer. Bischoff tries to wrap the segment up, attempting to leave the ring, but Stone Cold grabs him across the shoulders.

Austin says it’s rude to leave without saying goodbye. The Texas Rattlesnake has a sly smile on his face, looking Bischoff up and down as the London crowd chants his name. With the crowd waiting on his next word, Stone Cold repeats that Bischoff is all about giving the people what they want - correct? Bischoff nods, and Austin asks the crowd if they want to see Eric Bischoff get a Stone Cold Stunner! The pop is huge - Bischoff shakes his head furiously, but the grip from Austin becomes tighter around his shoulders.

Austin speaks softly into the microphone, telling Bischoff that, as the man said himself, we must give them what they want! A second later, Austin boots Bischoff in the stomach and nails him with a STUNNER! Down goes the Raw General Manager - he’s been laid out by Stone Cold Steve Austin, and now the beer begins to rain! Austin grabs the kegs and takes a drink out of all of them before pouring beer onto the knocked-out body of Eric Bischoff! The segment comes to a close as Austin drinks one more can of beer, exits the ring, and heads up the ring with a huge smile on his face - and Bischoff is still selling in the ring as if he’s been shot.

The show transitions into a highlight package of the last week for the WWE in London, England. It’s been a week of activities with members of the WWE family appearing on talk shows, morning TV programs and the nightly news. We see a clip of Kurt Angle reading the weather with great humour on a morning news show.

Trish Stratus is shown kicking the ball around with members of Newcastle United and has a picture taken in a custom kit with her name on it. WWE hosted a charity event, which was headlined by Brock Lesnar, Edge, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. We also see the mayor of London shaking hands with both Stephanie McMahon and Eric Bischoff.

The promo package comes to an end with McMahon discussing how great an experience it has been for the WWE superstars and staff to be here in London this last week. She promises that the WWE will be back in England in 2004, officially announcing that WWE will host an event at Wembley Stadium! No further details are provided, but fans are told to expect information later in the year for the blockbuster event across the pond.

Backstage, two out of three men involved in our epic tag team main event, EDGE and BROCK LESNAR, are discussing plans for later this evening. There’s a hint of tension between the two, this being the second time that Edge and Lesnar are joining forces, an uneasy alliance since both men have the same goal of dethroning The Rock as the WWE Champion. Lesnar doesn’t have much to say as Edge outlines that he has experience working with Angle - he’ll play ball with them, and together the three of them will beat the Samoans.

The look on Lesnar’s face is unsure - this alliance is clearly on shaky ground. Before any further discussion can take place - KURT ANGLE enters the scene and asks if his two partners are ready for tonight. Lesnar nods; Edge voices his affirmation and tells Kurt that so long as everyone respects each other here, they’ll overcome anything that’s thrown at them. Kurt agrees, “we all just need to do our job out there,” and the segment is about to come to an end… Lesnar goes to exit the room until Kurt steps in front of him.

The closing line from Angle to Lesnar - “And just remember, my job is to lead this team, so just stick with me, kid.”

We return to the ringside where Jim Ross advises that the following match will be called by himself as the lead announcer, and Tazz from Smackdown as the colour commentator, as the King of the Ring final is a co-branded affair.

**BASIC THUGANOMICS**

For the second time tonight, JOHN CENA steps out onto the stage and throws his hands in the air to a wave of boos, just as he received the first time he made his way to the ring. He is no longer sporting a hoodie, instead, he’s just in his wrestling attire minus any covering for his upper body. A few steps behind him, PAUL HEYMAN follows, a sly grin on his face, oozing confidence in his newest client’s goal of being King of the Ring. It is mentioned on commentary by J.R. that, should Cena win the tournament, this will be the second year in a row that Heyman has managed the winner of the tournament.

**SLOW CHEMICAL**

Another eruption of fire explodes from the top of the stage as KANE marches down to the ring. The discussion on commentary is largely led by Tazz, “So tell me, do you really think that Kane had nothing to do with the assault on Rob Van Dam? I mean, the only reason he is in the tournament is because of that attack - it’s awfully suspicious.” In response, J.R. maintains that he refuses to believe that Kane would turn on such a close friend like RVD - and instead points the finger at Sean O’Haire, stating that we shouldn’t overlook a guy who is calling himself the “DEVIL’S ADVOCATE” as a suspect of wrongdoing.

King of the Ring - The Final
John Cena (with Paul Heyman) vs. Kane

After roughly four weeks of competition, it all comes to an end tonight in London, England. John Cena from Smackdown, and Kane from Raw. With Heyman on the outside, the referee begins the bout by warning the manager to stay on the outside and keep out of the contest. Cena and Kane lock-up in the centre of the ring, a power game between the two, which is won by the masked man, Kane shoving Cena hard to the canvas. Quickly, Cena scurries toward the ropes and wraps an arm around them to prevent Kane from following up. He rolls under the bottom rope, his feet landing on the floor, and he takes a moment to enter a discussion with Heyman. Kane follows him to the outside and chases Cena around the ring, both men dive back into the ring, but Cena catches Kane with an elbow drop and lays in the boots thereafter with ruthless aggression.

Cena proceeds to get the heat on Kane for the next several minutes. He keeps the big man down with power moves, hitting a hard lariat and ramming him into the corner turnbuckle. Every punch he throws is with a closed fist, much to the dismay of the official who repeatedly warns Cena that he is pushing the boundaries of the bout. Kane would fire back after Cena went to the well once too often with the lariat - catching the Doctor of Thuganomics with a boot to the face and then hitting a sideslam of his own. Cena was quick to roll to the outside after that and force Kane to engage him on the outside.

After several minutes of Kane getting in some of his classic moves, finishing with a diving clothesline, which connects perfectly. Heyman shouts at Cena to get up, but Cena doesn’t know where he is right now, as Kane stalks his prey. His hand is raised in the air, calling for the chokeslam, and the possible finish of the contest and tournament as a whole. When Cena rises to his feet, Kane grabs him by the throat and tries for the chokeslam… but Cena powers out and lifts Kane off his feet into a fireman’s carry position! Kane elbows him hard in the face and hooks him for a Tombstone, only for Cena to slide out the back again and shove Kane into a corner! Cena rushes forward, and Kane moves out of the way. Cena collides with the corner but rips the covering off the metal turnbuckle. Kane approaches him and turns Cena around, but his opponent digs his fingers into Kane’s mask and pulls him throat-first into the exposed metal! Kane begins coughing like mad as Cena hooks him and nails the Attitude Adjustment - scoring the three count!

The referee perhaps sees the exposed turnbuckle after the count - but it’s far too late at this point! The tournament has come to an end and a king has been crowned - John Cena is the winner of the 2003 King of the Ring tournament. He is the second man managed by Paul Heyman to win the tournament and now joins an elite group of former champions who have had the honour of wearing the crown. Cena is joined in the ring by Heyman, both his hands are raised in the air as Heyman does so for his left while the referee raises the right.

On commentary, Tazz proclaims this is a great day for Smackdown! They have the hottest young star in the business on their show and now he has the crown to prove it. Any attempt from J.R. to mention the exposed turnbuckle is dismissed by Tazz - the Smackdown announcer showing complete bias for his brand’s superstar. As Tazz and J.R. continue to discuss the tournament, highlighting some of the big moments and great matches from this year, the camera follows Cena and Heyman up to the ramp and to the throne to the right of the stage.

Cena takes his place on the throne - allowing Heyman to place the crown on his head as confetti falls from the ceiling down upon him. He declines the robe that is laid out, and instead demands a microphone. With the whole world watching, Cena declares that he told everyone that this was going to happen. This is his time! His time is now, and Smackdown is officially on notice. Heyman then takes the microphone, praising Cena as the best young star in the WWE. He reaffirms the group of Cena, Benjamin and Haas as the Dangerous Alliance - and offers Cena a new moniker.

“He has arrived tonight! The same way I took Brock Lesnar last year and made him the King of the Ring - and then I made him the WWE Champion. This man right here, he is twice the athlete Brock Lesnar ever was - and his heights are greater than any athlete I’ve seen before. I told you for weeks that his time was coming - HIS TIME IS NOW! THIS IS YOUR KING OF THE RING… THIS IS JOHN CENA! THIS IS THE MAN OF THE HOUR!!”

~DRAFT NIGHT SHOCKER~
2002

In what would become an iconic moment, with the first pick of the 2002 WWE Draft, Ric Flair selects The Undertaker for Monday Night Raw! The Undertaker, who was no fan of the Nature Boy, throws his bottle of water at the water and tosses a chair across the room before storming out and cussing in frustration.

~ MAIN EVENT - TAG TEAM MATCH ~
The Connecticut Screwjob and the destruction of Kurt Angle back in the early part of the year opens the video. The Rock standing tall as the chosen WWE Champion from Mr. McMahon, taking Angle’s spot in the main event of WrestleMania 19 and aligning with his cousins - and ultimately Jim Cornette. Clips of The Rock’s victories over Lesnar at WrestleMania and The Undertaker at Judgment Day, and the burning of the coffin with the American Badass trapped inside.

Then, Lesnar and Edge are highlighted as challengers for the WWE Title, both men staking their claim to the most prized title in all of wrestling. This is then interrupted with a beatdown of the Samoan Death Squad toward the two unlikely allies… which sees them saved by the returning Kurt Angle. Bitter enemies form unlikely alliances, and we see all three men come together to form a joint force to battle against the Samoans.

**VIRTUAL VOODOO**

The Samoan Death Squad is led out by Jim Cornette - the vocal mouthpiece for the tag team and longtime family friend dating back to his venture with Yokozuna in the 90’s. Samu and Fatu make their way down to the ring, fierce looks on their faces, a frightening sight for those in the front row. As they enter the ring, Cole describes the SDS as one of the most violent duos in the history of the WWE - they have no remorse, they have no “off switch” and they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure the money keeps coming in for their family.

“IF YOU SMELL… WHAT THE ROCK… IS COOKING!”

**IT’S CONQUERED**

A huge rush of boos explode from the crowd - the arena darkens and a spotlight hits the top of the ramp. After a few seconds of delay, THE ROCK saunters out with the WWE Championship slung over his shoulder, the gold sparklingly under the spotlight. It should be noted that on his walk to the ring, The Rock is wearing sunglasses inside to block out the glare from the spotlight shining down upon him - total jerk move. The Rock climbs the steel steps slowly, looking around at the crowd, steps up onto the outside of the turnbuckle, and flings the title belt into the arm as he poses with one fist.

**YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME**

The attention of the crowd quickly shifts to the entrance ramp once again as EDGE rushes through a puff of smoke. Cole outlines how the next three men might be on the same team but they are hardly good friends. The difference between allies and family will be on full display in the main event. Edge has a long black trench coat - ala his 2006 gear - and walks halfway down the ramp before coming to a stop.

**NEXT BIG THING**

To his typical loud pop from the audience, BROCK LESNAR jogs out onto the stage - dressed in his current merch. Lesnar paces, soaking in the cheers from the crowd, his face showing a smile as he thumps his chest, pointing to the audience and revving them up. The camera cuts to a shot of his first partner, Edge not even looking back at his partner. Tazz and Cole discuss how well these two men worked the last time they teamed but now there is another factor added to the mix.

**MEDAL**

For the first time since March 6, we see the arrival of the only Olympic Gold Medalist in the history of the WWE. To a rockstar reception, KURT ANGLE takes a few steps onto the stage - the roar from the audience only growing when he becomes visible. Dressed in an all black wrestling singlet - Angle is shown with tears in his eyes, the emotion taking over him for his first match back in the WWE since the screwjob. Angle bends down for a moment, and then raises his arms in the air with a massive pyro display going off behind him.

Angle then marches toward the ring with great authority, slapping his partners on the backs and leading the charge toward the ring. The Samoans scatter from the ring, leaving these three men to hold the squared circle. Angle climbs onto the second turnbuckle, kisses his medal and lets out a huge roar to the crowd - he’s back and the time for vengeance is now!

!! BLOCKBUSTER SIX-MAN TAG !!
Tag Team Match:
The Rock & Samoan Death Squad vs. Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar & Edge

The sound of the bell begins the final match of this international affair. Umaga Fatu is the starting man for the bad guys but there is a discussion for the opposition as to who is going to start for them. All three men want to be the starter and after a fairly heated argument, Lesnar ends up forcing his way into the ring and he tackles Fatu on the other side of the ring. The referee orders Edge and Angle out of the ring, and we are underway officially for this six-man tag team match.

A fair standard six-man tag team match with The Rock commanding his team as you would expect. He stays on the outside of the ring for as much as he can, ordering Samu and Fatu to make regular tags and only entering the ring when the other competitor is knocked down on the canvas. On the other side, Lesnar, Edge and Angle do repeated blind tags, which cuts off the rhythm of the legal man. This happens multiple times, which gives the advantage back to the Samoans, and breeds frustration amongst their team.

The finish to the tag match sees Angle and The Rock as the legal men. There’s a bit of chaos when both Samu and Fatu invade the ring and are met by Lesnar and Edge. All six men battle it out, the ring filled with all the competitors, and the announcers go wild as they try to keep up with everything. Eventually, the ring does clear out - leaving only Angle and Rock. Angle tries the Angle Slam, but with the referee looking toward the competitors now brawling at ringside - The Rock hits a low blow! In typical bad guy fashion, The Rock gloats, laughing at Angle and yelling at the referee to focus back on the match.

The Rock grabs Kurt by the head, pulling him to his feet and nails a thunderous Rock Bottom. He arrogantly falls into the cover, his face showing a wide smile as the referee begins a count. However, it only gets two! Angle forces his shoulder up at the last second and The Rock cannot believe it. He jumps to his feet and approaches the referee, yelling at him to count faster. He turns back to Angle, kicking his arm and tosses his elbow pad to the crowd. Everyone stands up on their feet as The Rock runs the ropes… but Angle grabs his ankle on the return - ANKLE LOCK! Angle snaps back to his feet, gritting his teeth like a man possessed, and applies a hold that is three months in the making! The referee is right there, The Rock scrambles for the ropes, but Angle pulls him back to the middle of the ring and clamps down with a grapevine around the leg! He’s going to snap the ankle, nobody is coming to help, and for the first time since his return - The Rock taps out!

Winners: Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar & Edge via submission (Angle submits The Rock with the Ankle Lock) @ 18:23

If the emotions were high for his entrance, they are skyrocketing as the bell sounds to end the main event! Kurt Angle collapses in the ring, falling onto his knees and punching the canvas in excitement - tears swelling in his eyes yet again. The referee approaches him but Angle moves past him and climbs onto the turnbuckle, pointing to his midsection and signalling what he wants. Replays are shown on the big screen of the WWE Champion tapping out - the crowd in the background jumping wildly and mouths wide open in shock.

As the Samoans make their exit, the SDS assisting The Rock as he sells the injury to his ankle from the submission hold, Cole and Tazz are still in shock at what just happened. Cole points out that The Rock has not lost a match since February when he returned and beat Hulk Hogan. Back in the ring, Angle is joined by his partners for this evening: Edge and Brock Lesnar. All three men square off, shaking hands a few moments later.

The show comes to a close with a shot of The Rock at the top of the stage, his WWE Championship in the arms of Jim Cornette, unable to put weight on his ankle - seething at what has happened here in London, England.

Author's Note: A bit of a reset after the conclusion of the recap period for the thread. Update roster pages for both shows with little graphic cards, along with the current champions as we move into the weekly show phase, and the upcoming pay-per-view schedule. I've also included a breakdown of the tag teams/factions active in the thread since a lot of them have changed since we started.

I'll do this type of post after each pay-per-view so that you can follow along without needing to scroll back too far, and to keep up with any significant changes. One thing to note is that I plan on bringing back Saturday Night's Main Event, but I'm not sure where they would fall, so I haven't included them yet.

Thank you for the comments above. Yes, I do enjoy writing for Trish. With the limited women's roster, you need to invest in the major characters to make the division worthwhile.

I completely forgot about the project for Wembley Stadium around this time, so I will update it to Millennium Stadium via a news item when I announce which event is being held there in 2004. Thank you for the catch on that.

~ CENA CROWNED KING OF THE RING ~

After nearly five weeks of in-ring competition across two brands, the King of the Ring tournament concluded on Sunday with John Cena emerging victorious. With a road to victory that saw the young superstar defeat Bradshaw, Kevin Nash, Eddie Guerrero and Kane, it has left many in the WWE recognising the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ as one of the hottest talents in all of the company. In somewhat expected news alongside the victory, John Cena will be awarded a title opportunity against the reigning WWE United States Champion - Rey Mysterio. The latter had defended the title successfully against Ric Flair on Sunday night.

There is no rest for the wicked, as Rey Mysterio and John Cena will have just a few days to prepare for the title match. The bout is scheduled for this upcoming Thursday’s edition of WWE SmackDown. This will be the third time in 2003 that Rey Mysterio and John Cena have competed in singles action against each other. In February, Mysterio defeated Cena to advance in the WWE United States Title tournament, which he ultimately won and has held ever since. Their second bout took place just after WrestleMania 19, and Mysterio secured the win to go 2-0. While he may have lost twice before, this will be Cena’s first time facing Mysterio since winning King of the Ring and since aligning with Paul Heyman.

Other News and Notes:

The decision to crown John Cena as the King of the Ring was made before WrestleMania 19. It is said within the company that Cena was handpicked by Paul Heyman when he was given the opportunity to craft a new ‘Dangerous Alliance’ following the injury to Kurt Angle, which left Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas needing additional on-screen support. Cena is set to be positioned as the key singles star of the Dangerous Alliance. There have been brief discussions about Cena and Kurt Angle working a program over the summer, tying into Heyman’s role in breaking Haas and Benjamin away from their former mentor, but nothing is set in stone as of yet. Internal notes show that The Rock and Kurt Angle are likely the headliners for the upcoming Vengeance pay-per-view. Still, there are those within the SmackDown creative team who believe a four-way, including Brock Lesnar and Edge, is more attractive so close to SummerSlam.

In somewhat shocking news, Alundra Blayze is set to sign a legends deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. This would mark the first time since December 1995, when she was released from her contract due to financial costs, that Blayze had an active deal with the company. Her exit itself was not controversial, but her appearance shortly thereafter on Monday Nitro, dropping the then WWF Women’s Championship in the trashcan, left a sour taste in the mouth of many WWE officials. Blayze has worked a few independent shows since the closure of World Championship Wrestling in 2001. The feeling within the company is that this legend's deal will include appearances in video games, an action figure in an upcoming toy line highlighting stars of the 90’s and a few marketing opportunities. As is always the case, this deal is positioned as a purely ambassador position, but a source within the company was quoted as saying, “Once they have their hooks in you, they end up throwing the tights back on.”

It has been confirmed that Shane McMahon and Kevin Kelly will be the commentary team for tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw. The duo of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are on the flight with those coming back from England, and are unavailable for this evening’s event. The regular announcing team will be back on deck next week. There is not expected to be any impact on this upcoming Thursday Night SmackDown show.

Monday Night Raw Preview:
June 9, 2003; Miami, Florida

After a successful night across the pond, a select group of Raw superstars are left to bring the hottest form of sports entertainment to an excited crowd in Miami, Florida. While half the roster is returning from England, that does not mean Monday Night Raw will be less action-packed.

In what will serve as the main event of the evening, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H, finds himself going up against yet another champion. WWE Intercontinental Champion, Jeff Hardy, collides with The Game live on Raw in a Champion vs. Champion match. With less than twenty-four hours between the King of the Ring pay-per-view and Monday Night Raw, this means that Ric Flair and Batista will be missing for Evolution - leaving Triple H with only Randy Orton for backup. It has been a long time since the World Heavyweight Champion has been without a significant numbers advantage over his opponent, but tonight he must go into battle with only the young and ever unpredictable Randy Orton by his side. Across from him, Jeff Hardy has the chance of a lifetime, take down the World Champ and perhaps set yourself up for a chance at earning a title shot down the road, and holding a belt on each shoulder.

For several weeks now, Sean O’Haire has taunted Kane and hinted that the Big Red Machine was behind the mysterious attack on Rob Van Dam. An attack that saw him removed from the King of the Ring tournament and replaced by his tag team partner, Kane. While Kane travels back from England, Sean O’Haire will be in action this week on Monday Night Raw. The Devil’s Advocate steps into the ring against Tough Enough winner, Maven! A hard-working competitor, training with Al Snow down in OVW in recent months, Maven has developed a dropkick that has knockout power if he’s able to connect with the move. Meanwhile, O’Haire looks to continue to manipulate and tease the audience with his words of wisdom or perhaps venom?

With just three short weeks before the Raw exclusive pay-per-view, Bad Blood. Booker T will be allowed to address both the fans and his upcoming opponent, Triple H. In what has been called the biggest match of his professional career, Booker T will have the chance to become a six-time World Champion in front of his friends and family in Houston, Texas. It is a can-not-miss segment when the number one contender, who has yet to lose a match since WrestleMania 19, addresses everyone and provides his current state of mind heading into what could be a life-changing match against the World Heavyweight Champion.

In further in-ring action, Christopher Nowinski continues his crusade against the land of extreme when he takes on former ECW alumni, Spike Dudley! The former Harvard student has made his thoughts on Extreme Championship Wrestling very clear in the last few weeks - dating back to his backstage argument with Tommy Dreamer. This week, Nowinski gets his chance to show that he is indeed better than those who once called ECW home when he tangles with Little Spike Dudley. The hardcore specialist made a career out of doing extreme things, putting his body on the line, and we expect no different tonight. How will Nowinski fare when he takes on a veteran from the land of extreme?

And finally, while the new WWE Women’s Champion is unavailable for the show tonight, the hottest new competitor in the women’s division will take centre stage! Gail Kim competes in one-on-one action and has requested interview time with Terri Runnels before his match to send a message to the rest of the locker room. What could the new signee have to say?

I'm REALLY curious to see how you book Cena/Mysterio on SD. On one hand, Cena has all the momentum in the world after the KOTR and do you strike whilst the iron is hot? Or on the other hand, do you let the KOTR win marinate and not just spam a mid-card title win within the same week. I'm not saying either option is wrong per se, just curious to see which direction you take. I'm assuming Cena will win because he can't go 3-0 down to Rey this year, but we'll see.

Based on your notes, really hoping we get some semblance of a Rock/Edge program at some point.

Alundra Blayze news is fine. I completely expect her to make an appearance on Raw at some point now.

Raw preview looks solid. Trips/Jeff champ vs. champ should be fun. If Maven 'knocks out' O'Haire with the Dropkick, I will never read this BTB again. Also enjoying the build of Booker T to his rightful title win (hopefully), and Nowinski ECW stuff has been fun so far, and expect him to destroy Spike.

Looking forward to seeing the first full show from you in what feels like forever.

The opening video package aired, highlighting the events of the last week on the flagship show for the WWE. The main focus was on the ever-growing feud between Triple H and Booker T over the coveted World Heavyweight Championship, which currently resided with ‘the Game’ and had been his since he won it back in December of last year. The video package then switched to a review of last night’s King of the Ring pay-per-view from England, reminding viewers of John Cena’s victory in the tournament as he overcame Raw superstar Kane in the dramatic final. Images of the controversial beer bash hosted by Stone Cold Steve Austin aired to conclude the package - a final image of Eric Bischoff eating a Stone Cold Stunner across the pond burned into the minds of millions watching around the globe.

After the video package concluded, the camera panned around the building in Miami, showing a jam-packed site for Monday Night Raw. Kevin Kelly and Shane McMahon welcomed us to the show this evening - the former explaining that our regular broadcast team was still flying back from England, and were unable to be here in person - but Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler would be back on deck next week! McMahon said he was excited to fill in on the broadcast for what was sure to be an explosive night because the boss, Eric Bischoff, was not on site, and that meant that the inmates had full run of the asylum here on Raw! They ran down the card for the evening, including Gail Kim in action tonight, Maven set to face Sean O’Haire, and hyped the appearance of both the World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H, and the number one contender, Booker T.

Triple H kicked things off to loud boos from the crowd in Miami. The reigning World Heavyweight Champion strutted out to the ramp, flanked by Randy Orton, and he instructed the youngster to straighten up his suit. On the way to the ring, Triple H scoffed at the fans who shouted slurs toward him, giving them a dismissive and disapproving look of disgust. Standing in the middle of the ring to address the fans, Triple H explained that it should come as no surprise to those in the arena, or the millions watching at home, that Monday Night Raw was starting with him front and centre. While some may not like it, he declared that he was the backbone of the WWE, and while other so-called “big stars” had left for promises of movies, dreams of greater riches or simply because they didn’t like the job anymore, Triple H had never left! He had fought through the pain of tearing his quad off the bone just to get the chance to be World Champion again, and where others had faltered, he remained as the last man standing on a battlefield. He hadn’t just survived, though, according to Triple H, he had thrived, and he was carrying this show on his back because that was his job.

The crowd booed loudly in response and drew the ire of ‘the Game’ even more. He criticised them for booing, labelling them as idiots. He said that they had no idea about the pressure of being at the top of an industry like he was. The weight of being the best, and what being World Champion meant for not only him but for everyone who earned a paycheck with the WWE. While people in the back dream of challenging him for the title, most of them won’t ever do it, because they know it’s for the best that the World Championship stays around the waist of Triple H. They know that with him at the top - they get paid! They can relax and follow the leader, and that’s because he does his job! With a slight chuckle, Triple H mentioned that it says a lot that the man who is currently in line to try and take the title from him isn’t even in the building yet. He dared Booker T to prove him wrong - to which nothing occurred. Kevin Kelly explained on commentary that Booker T was sent by WWE to do press leading up to the show. As a result, he was always going to be arriving post the opening segment, which Triple H would have been made aware of on this night. With a smug look on his face, Triple H outlined everything he believed Booker T was going to do tonight. He predicted that Booker would come out to the ring and give a speech about how important the title match at Bad Blood was to him, and he might get emotional, mentioning his upbringing, family, and turning his life around - “a story of going from a thug to World Champion…”

You could see the anger growing on his face as Triple H shouted that none of that mattered. Sob stories, trials and tribulations didn’t make you a World Champion. All that mattered was who was the best in the ring, and Triple H spat at the idea that Booker T could share the same ring as he did. He declared that the match wasn’t happening in the streets of Houston, but rather in a squared circle, in front of a referee, which meant there was no hometown advantage for Booker T. Hunter said that when he looked into the eyes of Booker T, he saw fear. Fear of the pressure, fear of not being able to carry the responsibility of being the World Champion. If Booker were to win the title at Bad Blood, his life would change forever because all that matters is that you do the damn job. Family comes second, loved ones come second, the kids come second - it all comes second to the job of being the World Heavyweight Champion. He mocked Booker T for the fact that the last time he was World Champion, the company went out of business.

To close off the opening segment, Triple H reminded everyone that he is currently the longest-reigning champion in the WWE. He has become the one guarantee in professional wrestling. Night after night, Triple H said he delivers in the ring because that is what is expected of him. He carries the burden so the rest of the guys in the back don’t have to, and yet they call him selfish. He’s doing it because none of them can do it like he can—none of them - especially the likes of Booker T. “Every night, I’m expected to come out here and out-wrestle anyone who decides to step into the ring with me. I put people down, and they don’t get up, Booker. At Bad Blood, the one guarantee that I make for you is… I’m going to do my job!” It was a crystal clear message sent by the World Champion - he’s got one job on his mind and that is defeating Booker T in his hometown of Houston, Texas at Bad Blood. Triple H and Randy Orton exit the ring while being showered with boos; meanwhile, Kelly and McMahon discuss the opening monologue further on commentary. It’s announced that we will hear from the number one contender, Booker T, during the final segment of the broadcast - so stick around!

Match 1 | TAG TEAM MATCH:
Freaks & Geeks vs. The Un-Americans
The ever-developing tag team scene is on show for the first match of the night. During the commercial break, Lance Storm and William Regal make their entrance, and it’s only the arrival of Scott Steiner and The Hurricane that is shown on the television broadcast. The camera pans around to show a few different signs in support of the newly united team, many sporting signs that show their own assignment of being either a freak or a geek. It’s pointed out in the commentary that the tag division is wide open at the moment, but Shane McMahon hints that an announcement could be made later tonight, Kevin Kelly asks him if he’s got some insider info, but McMahon refuses to go into it further.

The Un-Americans, the highly skilled technical wizards of the division, do their best to keep The Hurricane in the ring, targeting the smaller main of the opposition. There are a few close calls with The Hurricane almost getting the tag, but either Storm or Regal can intercept. At one point, Regal cracks Steiner across the chops with one of the stiffest elbows you’ve ever seen, knocking the powerhouse off the apron and allowing the Un-Americans to continue their control of the contest. This match focuses on showcasing the heart and never-give-up attitude of the superhero, which builds to a hot tag for Big Poppa Pump!! Steiner comes into the contest, knocking down both members of the Un-Americans and executing a military press into a powerslam on Storm. To the delight of the crowd, Steiner disposes of William Regal from the ring and hooks Storm for the Steiner Recliner… and draws the submission!!!

Backstage, Terri Runnels interviewed Gail Kim about her experience of being a WWE Diva on the road over the last few weeks. At least she tried to, but Kim had no interest in feeding into the questions asked by the lead interviewer for Monday Night Raw. Instead, Gail Kim told Teri that she had no interest in providing a life update to the WWE fans. They meant nothing to her, and she did not have a lust for their approval like some of the other so-called “women” on the roster. Instead of addressing the WWE fans, Gail spat that she wanted to address “them” - at which time she pointed to a closed door behind her, which had a sign identifying it as the locker room for the WWE Divas. Gail took issue with the praise that was given to the hardcore match between Trish Stratus and Jazz being described as a “man’s match” - and while others may say that’s heaping praise onto it, to her it was a slap in the face. She was no girl - she is a woman, and it was about damn time that the rest of the division woke up to that fact. “I’m not here to prance around and make friends, I’m here to kick down this door behind me and show the entire world that I am the most dangerous woman on this roster.” To end the interview, Gail said she had her first target in mind, but when pressed by Runnels to say who it was, Gail simply walked away.

After Raw returned from the break, Chief Morley sat in his office in his acting role as the General Manager, with Eric Bischoff unavailable this evening. Morley was joined by Scott Steiner and The Hurricane just moments later, and he welcomed them into the office. After a brief discussion about their victory earlier in the night, Morley advised that he, and by extension the administration, had been impressed by their performances. He advised that Steiner and The Hurricane would be challenging for the World Tag Team Titles in 3 weeks at Bad Blood, but mentioned there were still some uncertainties to work out. Steiner said he didn’t take kindly to being jerked around - demanding to know who was left to be worked out. Hurricane jumped onto the desk, posed in his superhero style and questioned Morley on would treachery was up his sleeve and that his “hurri-senses” were tingling the minute he walked into the office - as they did around evildoers. Morley swatted Hurricane with a stack of papers, ordered him off the table, and then explained that the champions at Bad Blood were still uncertain. Through gritted teeth, a great deal of pain showing on his face, Morley outlined the scenario for next week - “Due to the controversial finish to the tag match at Backlash, which was never resolved in a rematch following the event, we are now granting the Dudley Boyz one LAST chance to win the World Tag Team Championships. They’ve found some loophole as the former champions, where they get another rematch… and they get to name the stipulation because the original rematch ended in a disqualification victory for them.” His fingers dug into the table as he announced Evolution vs. the Dudley Boyz for the titles in a tables match next week!

During the entrances for the upcoming match, Shane McMahon cannot wrap his head around the relationship between Maven and the beautiful Stacy Kiebler. Throughout the entire entrance of Maven, we hear McMahon question repeatedly how someone who looks like Maven could get a woman as perfect as Kiebler when he’s the son of a billionaire! In contrast, Kevin Kelly took the opportunity to praise Maven’s work ethic and explain to the viewers that he had been down in OVW working on his skill set and had reportedly perfected a dropkick that was as powerful as a knockout punch from the likes of a heavyweight boxer.

Match 2 | SINGLES MATCH:
Maven (with Stacy Kiebler) vs. Sean O’Haire
Almost immediately, Maven rushes forward and fires off the dropkick attempt! O’Haire slaps the feet away and drops to the canvas like he has just ducked out of the way of an incoming bullet fired by a world-class sniper. The camera zooms in on Sean’s face, he’s laughing, pushing himself back toward the ropes and shaking a finger in the air at Maven, telling him he was so close. Kevin Kelly reminds us that it only takes one shot from that dropkick to land, and it’ll put O’Haire to sleep. As the contest develops, O’Haire tries to use Stacy as a distraction and can draw Maven to the outside of the ring to protect his new lady friend. On the outside, O’Haire knees Maven in the mid-section, and throws him into the barrier at ringside, blowing Stacy a kiss as Raw took a commercial break mid-match.

It’s a fairly competitive match, but toward the end, O’Haire begins to assert his dominance as the eventual winner of the bout. His sharp kicks batter Maven repeatedly as he is trapped in the corner, and O’Haire makes a point of yelling at Stacy to watch what he is doing his her boyfriend. Chuckling while inflicting the punishment, O’Haire draws some great heat from the audience when he double-handed chokes Maven, only inches away from Stacy on the outside - screaming in her face that there’s nothing she can do. With the match firmly in his control, O’Haire takes a moment to soak in the boos from the audience, mocking them and taunting people who are at ringside. He has them in the palm of his hand. After a good back and forth, O’Haire lifts Maven up off the canvas, hits a spinning backfist, scoops him into a fireman’s carry - Widow Maker!! He doesn’t hook the leg, displaying arrogance in his finisher, and it is enough to get the three count!

In the aftermath of the match, Sean O’Haire posed in the ring while Maven rolled to the outside. Moments later, the crowd erupted with a thunderous cheer when Rob Van Dam jumped over the barricade and stormed the ring. He had come from within the crowd and tackled O’Haire - unloading on the Devil’s Advocate with closed fist punches right to the face. They would tussle as O’Haire tried to cover up as best he could, but Van Dam connected with shots thick and fast. Back to a vertical base, O’Haire had failed to throw a single shot in return, and Van Dam smashed him with a hard kick to the temple, so powerful that it knocked O’Haire through the ring ropes to the floor below. As best he could, O’Haire stumbled up the ramp, hurrying away from his attacker; meanwhile, Rob Van Dam remained in the ring, yelling for O’Haire to come back down. The crowd remained at fever pitch. RVD had returned and, for some reason, had gone after Sean O’Haire! Kevin Kelly declared this was vindication for Kane - the rumours, the lies, why else would RVD attack O’Haire if not because he was the one who attacked Rob all those weeks ago?

Back from the break, Rob Van Dam is seen being escorted from the arena by security while Chief Morley follows a few steps behind. They exchange a few short and sharp words until Van Dam spots the camera that is following him. Van Dam stopped in his tracks and asked Sean, through the camera, if the Devil warned him about the attack tonight? He laughed and said probably not to answer his own question. RVD said he had a lot of questions, but not a lot of answers. A lot had happened in the weeks since he was attacked, and he didn’t exactly know where to start in trying to get to the truth. What he did know was that he could tell a liar when he looked them in the eyes, so next week, Rob wanted Sean O’Haire to come down to the ring and look him in the eye. He also needed his best friend and tag team partner, Kane, to do the same. He would look them both in the eye and ask if they attacked him, and Van Dam believed he would be able to tell which person to believe. The camera lingered on Van Dam’s face for a moment; it looked disheartened, the reality of a possible uncomfortable truth now sits just one week away. Next week - RVD will look both Sean O’Haire and Kane in the eye, and demand answers as to who orchestrated his attack!

Elsewhere, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley are shown in the halls of the arena, a camera fixed on them, dressed in casual clothes - no match set for them tonight. In a guerrilla-style promo, just the camera and the tag team alone, Bubba Ray outlined that this feud with Evolution had been going on for three long months. Batista and Randy Orton had run, hid, ducked, weasled, evaded, and escaped to get out of giving the Dudley Boyz a fair rematch for the World Tag Team Titles. He said that doing that was the worst mistake of their lives because it meant that the Dudley Boyz were more fired up than ever before to rip them apart! Bubba and D-Von admitted that winning for the first time at WrestleMania 19 resulted in them letting their guard down. They got comfortable, and that caused them to get screwed - they vowed it would not happen again.

D-Von shouted that this wasn’t just a rematch for them - it was their last chance to win the gold. Should they lose, that’s it. They can’t challenge for the belts against - a risk they had to take to get this title shot, but one they believed would pay off when they put Evolution down. With a sick smile on his face, Bubba Ray said, “When it comes to a tables match, you have to be willing to go to the extreme. Something we’ve done all over the world - we’ve been LIVING DANGEROUSLY our whole lives. In our domain, after months of you two refusing to face us - now that we get you with no restrictions, no rules, what we are going to do to you will be BARELY LEGAL. And when they scrap your beaten and bloodied bodies off the canvas of that ring, and they ask if it was those damn dirty Dudley Boyz who did it… you can tell them that we are GUILTY AS CHARGED!!”

Gail Kim vs. A Local Competitor
Kim goes right on the attack, charging at the local competitor and driving her back into the corner. The young girl attempts to club at the back of Gail Kim, however, these are no sold and Kim strikes her hard across the face with a forearm. Ripping her from the corner, Gail then sends her opponent across to the opposite corner, following up with a running knee to the mid-section. Dragging her face first along the top ring rope, Gail then whips her opponent into the ropes in the centre of the ring. This time, the opponent latches onto the ropes on the other side, drawing Gail in, and she gets kicked in the face.

With a sudden glimmer of hope, the local competitor executes a rollup for a two-count. Both women get back to their feet quickly, the local competitor kicking Gail in the stomach before hooking her for a suplex. It’s blocked! Kim shifts the weight and counters into a twisting neckbreaker for a two count of her own. Frustrated, Gail looks up at the referee and mimics counting to three by slapping her right hand against the palm of her left. A snap suplex follows by Gail Kim, and once more she gets a tight two count from the referee, still no three count that she wants. With a handful of hair and a mean look on her face, Gail pulls the local competitor up off the mat, chops her in the chest twice, and then twists her arm sharply. Gail ducks underneath a swinging arm and lines up her shot - Eat Defeat!! The referee is right there to make the count as Gail puts this one away.

The footage then cut to the parking lot, and we saw Booker T arrive in a black car, dressed very well for a night on the town. Booker grabbed his bag from the backseat of the car, looking calm and collected, as he made his entrance into the building. No match tonight, his only appearance is a closing speech he’ll deliver after the main event! On commentary, Kevin Kelly hyped the final segment of the show up, and he was sure that someone would fill Booker T in on what the World Heavyweight Champion had to say earlier in the night. Shane McMahon called Kelly a snitch for wanting to run over to the number one contender and spill the beans about what Triple H had to say. He proclaimed that the most important thing Kelly said was that Booker T had finally shown up to work - something that Triple H said would be a problem with a guy like him being at the top. Kelly retorted that Booker T had been WCW Champion and was a great representative, to which McMahon quipped that he had owned that company and, if given the choice, he’d have Triple H every day of the week.

Raw returned from the commercial break, Jeff Hardy sat in the men’s locker room applying his face paint for later in the night. His ritual is interrupted by the arrival of Goldust! Jeff looked confused and asked what Goldust was up to, and the latter replied that he was scouting the arena to make sure Evolution were not up to their nasty tricks. He revealed that Booker T told him not to get involved with this issue between himself and Evolution, but Goldust believed that, secretly, his close friend wanted him to have his back. Hardy shook his head and, as gently as he could, suggested to Goldust that perhaps Booker T was being honest and wanted Goldust to stay away for his own good. Goldust chuckled out loud, dismissing the idea, and said that he understood why Jeff was so concerned about his time being taken up with scouting for Booker. Goldust leaned forward and said that Jeff obviously wanted him to watch his back as well tonight! Jeff jumped to his feet and pleaded with Goldust that he did not need his assistance tonight. It was no use, however, Goldust wrapped an arm around Jeff Hardy and promised to have his back tonight against Triple H - the same way that he would have Booker T’s back leading into Bad Blood.

In the building, Christian made his way out to the ring, dressed in a pair of jeans, a stern look on his face tonight. Kevin Kelly mentioned in his commentary how Christian would be the person most upset with the actions of Stone Cold last night against Eric Bischoff, a man that Christian has spent months trying to impress. The self-proclaimed right-hand man of the General Manager will get his shot to gain payback for Bischoff in three short weeks at Bad Blood when he faces Stone Cold Steve Austin. The crowd booed loudly as Christian was handed a microphone and addressed his fans throughout the globe. He knows that they see him as a shining light, but tonight, he could not be that shining light.

Tonight was a day of mourning because of what happened across the pond in England. Christian directed everyone’s attention to the titantron, where he had still images of the beer bash, which ended with a Stone Cold Stunner to Eric Bischoff. Almost with tears in his eyes, Christian described Bischoff as a father figure, someone he looked to for advice, and he felt that he had let Eric down by not being at King of the Ring. He described Austin as an embarrassment, a stupid redneck who thinks it is acceptable to travel the world drinking beer, assaulting professionals and costing people their Intercontinental Championship.

Continued boos would rush the ring as Christian took a minute to fill the ring with weapons from underneath the squared circle. Steel chairs, a table, a trash can, and a toolbox filled the ring when Christian returned his focus to speaking with the audience. Everything in the ring was going to be legal for Christian to use at Bad Blood when he met Steve Austin. He had a devilish grin on his face as he held a steel chair in the air and asked how many times Austin could hit him with this chair. The answer was zero. He shouted that Austin was not allowed to use the chair, but Christian could. He proclaimed that he could stuff Austin’s head in the trash can and stomp on it repeatedly, but laughed that Austin could not do the same.

Christian described Austin as someone who had broken the rules all his life. Questioning if the Rattlesnake thinks he’s above the law. “You stole my Intercontinental Championship from me - and this is my payback!! This is my revenge… and I will prove myself to Mr. Bischoff. I will prove that I can be trusted as his right-hand man. I have every advantage, Austin. The cards are stacked in my favour. There is zero hope for you. There is zero doubt in my mind that I will walk out of Bad Blood as the winner, and then I’ll take back the title you screwed me out of. Be ready, Austin. Your chances of winning at Bad Blood… zero!”

Back from the break, we saw a vignette for La Résistance - Sylvain Grenier and René Duprée. The video package showed them enjoying the high life in France, and the duo talked about how they will be arriving in the WWE very soon. They will represent France to the best of their abilities and aim to teach the Americans a thing or two about respect, class and European excellence. This duo from France has made waves on the independent scene across all of Europe and has come highly touted as the next great young tag team in wrestling. From what we’ve seen, they aren’t going to be enduring themselves to the local fans here in the USA. McMahon said after the video that he didn’t know much about this incoming team, and Kevin Kelly shed some light on one member of the duo. “Rene Dupree is one of the best young talents that has come out of Canada. He’s a French-Canadian who has disowned his Canadian father in favour of his French roots, because he views Canada as being just another version of America. He refuses to acknowledge that he was born in Canada, but he’s one of the best young wrestlers I’ve seen tape on. At just nineteen years old, Dupree could be one to watch for the next decade-plus here on Raw.”

Match 4 | SINGLES MATCH:
Christopher Nowinski vs. Spike Dudley
By no means a technical masterpiece here tonight. It’s mainly a showcase for Nowinski as he does his best to highlight some of his best moves and put together a few key spots where he can draw some heat from the crowd. Nowinski begins the contest with a fake handshake, drawing big boos from the audience when he smacks Spike across the face with a slap, and starts laughing. Spike tries to tackle Nowinski in response, but he cops a knee to the stomach and is then flattened with a hiptoss! Spike stumbles to his feet, and Nowinski sends him to the outside of the ring with a hard lariat over the top rope. With Spike on the outside of the ring, Nowinski takes the opportunity to pose, motioning that this is too easy for him.

Around the outside of the ring, Nowinski uses the barricade as a weapon. He tosses Spike into the barricade multiple times and is smart enough to break the count each time, making sure he keeps the match alive and does not risk it ending unexpectedly. After five minutes of action, the match concludes. The action is back in the ring, Spike dives off the top rope and is caught by Nowinski! The Harvard graduate drops Spike across his knee and then tosses him overhead. Popping back up to his feet, Nowinski whips Spike into the ropes and blasts him with a back body drop - sending LSD high up into the air, and allowing him to come crashing down to the canvas. A few moments later, Nowinski calls for the finish. He grabs Spike with a double underhook and nails him with the Honour Roll for the three count!

After gaining the victory, Christopher Nowinski rolled to the outside of the ring and flipped the curtain on the apron of the squared circle up. He began looking underneath the ring until he pulled out a Singapore cane. Both Kelly and McMahon wondered what the hell Nowinski was thinking, and their questions soon became clear when Nowinski climbed back into the ring. His eyes glared at the title like it was the most powerful object he had ever held.

With an evil smile on his face, Nowinski lined up the shot… and cracked the cane across Spike’s back! There was a sickening crack that echoed over the arena, and Spike dropped to his knees while letting out a scream of pain. Nowinski fired off a further nine hard shots with the cane until it split in half. Once the cane had broken, Nowinski threw it to the outside of the ring, posing for the camera, smirking. Nowinski walked over to the edge of the ring and demanded a microphone, which a crew member handed him very quickly. He called out Tommy Dreamer, asking if that was hardcore enough for him, before he left the ring as the show cut to a commercial break.

A chaotic scene upon the return to the show, Tommy Dreamer held a cameraman by the arm and demanded the camera be turned on. Once it’s confirmed that this is broadcasting, Dreamer said he doesn’t have time to waste - he called Nowinski a scumbag and told him that striking a man in the back with a Singapore can doesn’t make you hardcore. He called Nowinski a coward who doesn’t have enough respect for the history of the business, and Dreamer had given his blood, sweat and tears inside the ring in front of tens of thousands, and in front of 35 people. He then challenged Nowinski to prove how hardcore he really was - he counted 10 times that Spike was hit with the cane, but Dreamer doesn’t believe Nowinski is as tough as Spike. If Nowinski wanted to prove he was hardcore, Dreamer dared him to come down to the ring next week and take half, just five, shots from the cane. “Next week, I want you in that ring, and let's find out just how tough they make them in Harvard! Five shots with the Singapore cane - I’ll do yours and you can do mine! Let’s see who breaks first. I’ll see you next week, Chris.”

A big wave of cheers welcomed the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Jeff Hardy. With his trademark face paint on, Hardy sprinted down to the ring, slid underneath the bottom rope and then jumped onto the second turnbuckle to pose for the audience - many of them mirroring his pose as they cheered. Next out was the most hated man on the roster - and it shows. Huge boos from the crowd. Triple H emerged from behind the curtain, water bottle in hand, and Randy Orton followed closely alongside. The World Champion made a slow walk to the ring, forcing Hardy to wait that little bit longer, pushing the nerves to the brink. While Kevin Kelly attempted to outline some of the shortcuts Triple H and, by extension, Evolution had taken, he was cut off by Shane McMahon defending the World Champion.

“That man right there is the greatest wrestler on the planet, Kevin. You don’t want to list the names, but I will! He beat Shawn Michaels in a 3-Stages of Hell match to win the title, he beat Scott Steiner twice, and once was in a steel cage! He beat Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania in front of over 50,000 screaming fans. He beat Shawn Michaels again, just to silence any doubters. There is nothing this man has refused to do, and still, people like you will say he’s taken the easy way out once or twice. Well, I reckon if you do the hard yards, you deserve a shortcut every so often!”

Match 5 | MAIN EVENT:
Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H (with Randy Orton)
A highly competitive match that is given time for the competitors to play with, due to the smaller roster size tonight. They are given over twelve minutes, and the champions get the most out of the time allocated this evening. There are multiple near falls for both men, and both hit their finisher on the other person at least once. On the outside, Orton gets involved multiple times throughout the contest but is never caught by the referee. The chaos really begins when Triple H goes for the Pedigree, but Hardy spins out of it and whips him into the corner of the ring. Hardy then charges forward, Triple H ducks out of the way, but Hardy can climb the corner and dive backward with a crossbody. Triple H instinctively pulls the referee into the attack, which prevents it from hitting him but also takes out the official. Hardy struck first after this, hitting a DDT followed by a Swanton Bomb for a visual three-count on the World Heavyweight Champion.

While the referee is knocked down, Orton pulls Hardy from the ring after the Swanton and punches him in the face. Orton then throws him back against the barricade, forcing his head to snap back and his body to collapse. Quickly, Orton throws him back into the ring and follows, appearing to set up for the RKO. Suddenly, Goldust rushes out from backstage and engages in a fight with Orton - the pair brawling out of the ring and into the crowd! That leaves Hardy and Triple H alone in the ring, and the referee begins to stir. The two competitors in the match trade counters when they collide until Hardy hits the Whisper in the Wind after being shoved toward the turnbuckle. It looks like he’s about to secure the win with a second Swanton until Test appears on the ring apron and shoves Hardy off the top rope! He crashes and burns into the middle of the ring, Triple H seeing this unfold and looking both dazed and confused. Test jumps off the apron and walks over to the timekeeper’s area, and he grabs the Intercontinental Title, holding it up in the air for a moment before exiting through the crowd. Meanwhile, Triple H shakes off the cobwebs and hits Jeff with a final Pedigree and scores a highly controversial three-count.

Booker T made his way out to the ring to a huge response from the crowd in Miami. The number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship, who in three weeks will challenge for the big gold belt in his hometown of Houston, Texas, at Bad Blood. The crowd roared with approval, Booker T thanked them all for the support and said that he had been given the rundown on what was said about him earlier in the night by Triple H. Loud boos filled the arena at the namedrop of the World Champion, but Booker T quickly continued and said that this wasn’t about his opponent at Bad Blood. Tonight, Booker T wanted the chance to address what this all meant to him and why this match at Bad Blood was so important. Booker T explained that he had been World Champion before in World Championship Wrestling, but to hold it here in the WWE was always his goal. He’s been through challenges in life - he wasn’t about to deny that the troubles of his youth were false, or that Triple H had outright lied. He had lived in the streets of Houston, but that was many years ago, and Booker T laughed that he’d been living in a penthouse with his supermodel wife for a long time.

What was true was that Booker T had struggled in his childhood until his big brother, Stevie Ray, pulled him up by the bootstraps and showed him a better future. A future built on hard work within professional wrestling. In three weeks, Booker T said that it was a fulfilment of a dream when he could stand in the middle of the ring, in his hometown and raise a World Championship above his head, and say “I made it.” This wasn’t just about him - it was for anyone across the country who is in a situation where they think there’s no way out. Or maybe there is a way out, but it’s through a dark path, to which Booker shouted that there is always a better way. Struggle is not just in Houston, Texas; struggle is universal, and it doesn’t matter what colour you are, what race you are, what religion you believe in - struggle discriminates against nobody! This got a big pop from the audience. Make no mistake about it, Booker T had struggled, and at Bad Blood, that wasn’t going to be a burden - it was instead going to be a fire that burned within him and pushed Booker T towards becoming the World Heavyweight Champion. He continued that you do not have to look like Booker T to believe in him or to see yourself in him. His story, coming from nothing, making bad choices, and then working your entire life to right those wrongs and provide for your family - that was more than just what you looked like. That was about heart, and Booker T said he hoped that everyone across the country could relate to his story, to his struggle and that everyone could unite with him against Triple H and his “better than the rest of us” attitude that has survived for far too long.

He had been very passionate throughout his entire speech, and that continued when Booker T recalled something that Triple H had said earlier in the night. The World Champion called it a hometown advantage - well, as far as Booker T was concerned, for the next 3 weeks, everywhere was his hometown. Anywhere with people who believed in second chances, in fighting back from your own personal demons, that was a place he could call home! Booker T fired up the crowd, telling them that he wanted every single arena on the road to Bad Blood to let Evolution know that they had his back, that they believed that the impossible could happen and that Triple H would lose! The reign of terror would come to an end, and when Booker T got that belt, he would make sure it was a title for the people. He would defend it as much as he could, and give opportunities to anyone who wanted a chance - the exact opposite of what Evolution had done since they controlled the title. To conclude the night, Booker T looked directly into the camera and said that he didn’t believe in destiny; however, he did believe in purpose. His purpose was to become World Champion, and he would achieve that in just three short weeks.

The promo from HHH to kick off RAW was decent, and it really sums up his character in real life back in 2003.

I’m surprised you had Shane O Mac on commentary. If i‘m honest, being a commentator does suit Shane.

The Steiner/Hurricane is a bit random, but interesting nevertheless.

Overall, it was a good show.

Thanks to those who gave Raw a read. I know it's weird reading a show previewed so long ago. SmackDown is basically finished, so here's a little preview for that. Hope to have the show up by Saturday.

SmackDown! - June 12, 2003 Preview

For the first time since being crowned as the 2003 King of the Ring, John Cena will step into the ring just four days later when he challenges for the WWE United States Championship. After aligning with Paul Heyman and forming the Dangerous Alliance alongside the World’s Greatest Tag Team, Cena has earned the opportunity to challenge for the title he has been chasing since February. His final obstacle is the man who has kept the title under lock and key since its return to the WWE, Rey Mysterio. In the past four months, Rey Mysterio has successfully seen off the challenge from the King of the Ring twice. He has a record of 2-0 against Cena, one in February during the WWE United States Championship tournament and another following WrestleMania 19. However, both of these victories came when John Cena was a lone soldier and without the backing of the Dangerous Alliance. Who will come out on top in this third bout? Does Rey Mysterio have the number of John Cena, or is the Dangerous Alliance the balance of power that Cena needs to claim his first bit of hardware in the WWE?

In what was an epic encounter that headlined the pay-per-view, which included the in-ring return of Kurt Angle. In his first match since the Connecticut Screwjob, an event that saw Angle screwed out of the WWE Championship by The Rock and Vince McMahon. The Olympic Gold Medalist left his mark on the event by forcing The Rock to submit to the ankle lock. Much to the displeasure of the Samoan Death Squad, Jim Cornette and The Rock, their opponents were able to remain united throughout the event and came away with the victory in six-man tag team action. Tonight, WWE Champion, The Rock, will address the WWE fans and promises to have a clear message for all those who think about challenging him for sports’ most coveted prize.

Another match that has been confirmed for SmackDown will see Big Show collide with the ‘Man Beast’ Rhyno! Both men have been involved in more tag team contests as of late - Big Show aligned with A-Train, while Rhyno has picked up an ally in Spanky. Tonight, they’ll come together in singles action, but we expect both men to have still their allies close at hand. Rhyno’s relationship with Spanky has seen the latter aiming to impress the last man to hold the ECW World Heavyweight Championship and prove that he is a worthwhile ally. For Big Show, he’s had issues as of late with many main event stars, but has found himself on the losing end of things. A win here would get him back on track as the giant looks towards a summertime run at the top of the card.

Rumour has it that Los Guerreros will be taking part in the show as well. After two close defeats at the hands of the World’s Greatest Tag Team, Eddie and Chavo will have much on their mind. Neither of them is involved in in-ring competition this week, so we expect that they’ll have something to say and their upcoming prospects as a tag team. Will SmackDown General Manager, Stephanie McMahon have anything to say on the matter for Los Guerreros, or will they have to find another way to regain the titles that they lost at WrestleMania 19?

And finally, for the first time in several months, Hulk Hogan returns to Thursday Night SmackDown! In what promises to be a huge moment, the Hulkster will be back on the show and has a lot to get off his chest. Hogan will be allowed to address the fans with an open mic, so you do not want to miss the first appearance of Hulk Hogan back on SmackDown!
