Orton unsurprisingly left his tag team partner and this resulted in Harper hitting a Discus Lariat on Cena and then tagged in Roode who dragged Cena up and hit a Glorious DDT for the pin.

The commentary team of Michael Cole & Corey Graves from Monday Night RAW along with Tom Phillips from Friday Night Smackdown welcomed the WWE Universe to the 31st annual WWE Royal Rumble pay per view.

WWE Championship ​

AJ Styles(c) V John Cena V Randy Orton ​

The pay per view opened with a triple threat match for the WWE Championship with the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles defending against both John Cena and Randy Orton.
All three men were in control at different parts of the duration of the match but in the end, Cena hoisted Orton up onto his shoulders and launched him off of them in an attempted AA.
Only for Orton to reverse it into an RKO at the last possible moment but when Orton attempted to pin Cena, Styles launched himself into the ring with a Springboard 450 Splash to break it up.
From here Styles picked Orton up and hit a Styles Clash on him onto Cena and then pinned Cena.​

1st Fall
Next the duo of Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens(c) defended the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships against the former champions the Usos in a two out of three falls match. The Uso’s were victorious in the first fall after they hit a Doomsday Samoan Spike on Owens with Jey pinning the “Prize Fighter ''.
2nd Fall
The second fall saw Owens get his win back by pinning Jey Uso after hitting a Pop-Up Powerbomb.
3rd & Final Fall
Zayn tagged in Owens and then hit a Helluva Kick on Jimmy Uso in one of the corners, and when the latter fell into a sitting position in the corner Owens followed it up with a Cannonball for the pin.​

After that Dolph Ziggler defended the WWE United States Championship against Chad Gable, who won a tournament to earn this shot at the gold. The defending champion attempted to bend every rule and take every shortcut to continue his reign as the WWE United States Champion.
The ending of the match saw Gable attempt a German Suplex only for Ziggler to elbow him in the face to get out of the attempt, then turn around and attempt a Superkick. Only for Gable to catch it and transitioned it into a Gable Lock and Ziggler tapped out.​

The fourth match of the event was the 30-man Royal Rumble took place where the winner would earn a world title match at WrestleMania 34.

The two men to kick off the 2018 men’s Royal Rumble match were Shinsuke Nakamura from Friday Night Smackdown and the leader of Balor Club Finn Balor from Monday Night RAW.

Balor made quick work of English and threw him out of the match.

Nakamura laid Daivari out with a Kinshasa as soon as he got in the ring and then picked him up and threw him out.

Next the duo of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins(c) defended the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships against the Hardy’s aka Jeff & Matt Hardy.
Rollins attempted to attack Matt in one of the corners but Hardy moved at the last second possible which resulted in the former hitting the ring post shoulder first. From here Matt knocked Ambrose off the apron and then tagged in Jeff and together they dragged Rollins out of the corner and hit a Two Man Twist of Fate and Jeff pinned Rollins.

Brock Lesnar w Paul Heyman(c) V Roman Reigns
In the penultimate match Brock Lesnar defended the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a one on one match. This match came about after the defending champion cost the challenger the WWE Intercontinental Championship and his rematch for the gold. Lesnar came firing out of the gate and sent Reigns to Suplex City not once, not twice but three times consecutively. But he didn’t even attempt a pin seemingly intent on doing as much damage as humanly possible.
Eventually the two men brawled to the ringside area where Reigns not only put his opponent through the announce table with a Samoan Drop but followed this up by dragging Lesnar up and placing him near the fan barricade and spearing him through it.
Reigns got back to his feet and dragged Lesnar up and threw him back into the ring and then laid Heyman out at ringside with a Superman Punch. Reigns entered the ring and ended the match by hitting a trifecta of Spears to put Lesnar down for the count.​

The main event of the evening was the first ever 30-Woman Royal Rumble match where the winner would earn a shot at either WWE RAW or WWE SD Women’s Championships at WrestleMania 34.

Bayley from Monday Night RAW and Becky Lynch from Friday Night Smackdown were the first two entrants into the inaugural 30-woman Royal Rumble match.

As Joe said that he was surprised but pleased that Reigns proved him wrong. Reigns thanked him and they shook hands but it was clear that they weren't finished with each other.

WWE Chairman Paul Levesque has announced that after talking with WWE talent Becky Lynch, Bayley, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair that he has against his better judgment signed Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir to contracts.

Despite being at quite a considerable size advantage to his opponent the current WWE US Champion Chad Gable was able to hold his own against Luke Harper.

RECAPPING THE ROAD TO ELIMINATION CHAMBER ​

WINNER CHALLENGES FOR THE WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT WM 34​

RAW GM Kurt Angle announced that an elimination chamber match would take place at the event to crown a number one contender to the WWE Universal Championship. Braun Strowman beat Big Cass, The Miz beat Curtis Axel, Dean Ambrose beat Jeff Hardy, Seth Rollins beat Matt Hardy to qualify for the match. Meanwhile a qualifying match between Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt ended in a draw so both men qualified for the match.

FIRST EVER WOMEN’S CHAMBER MATCH ​

On an episode of Monday Night RAW, GM Kurt Angle announced that the first ever women’s chamber match would take place at the pay per view for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship currently held by Alexa Bliss. Bayley, Sasha Banks, Mickie James beat Dana Brooke, Nia Jax and Maryse respectively to qualify for the match. Meanwhile Absolution won the last three spots in the match when they beat Bayley. Sasha Banks and Mickie James in a six woman tag team match.

REVIVAL OF THE EXTREME ​

At the 2018 Royal Rumble pay per view the brother duo of Matt and Jeff Hardy aka the Hardy’s teamed up to defeat Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose(c) to capture the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships. The brothers would go on and defeat Rollins & Ambrose in a rematch for the gold on an episode of Monday Night RAW.

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson aka the Revival defeated The Bar’s Cesaro and Sheamus on an episode of Monday Night RAW to earn a shot at the titles at the EC PPV.

WHO WILL STEP UP TO THE SAMOAN SAVAGE NEXT?​

Since the “Samoan Savage” Samoa Joe defeated Roman Reigns for the WWE Intercontinental Championship he has been defending the title in open challenges.
He told RAW GM Kurt Angle that he wanted to host an open challenge for the title at the pay per view, but he didn’t want to limit it to the RAW roster and Angle agreed.

A SHOT OF A LIFETIME ​

At the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble pay per view event the “Empress” Asuka won the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match and as a result of this victory earned a women’s championship match at WrestleMania 34. Asuka went to RAW GM Kurt Angle and asked to defend her championship opportunity in an open challenge to anyone on the women’s roster and Angle agreed.

Elimination Chamber - WWE RAW Women’s Championship ​

Alexa Bliss(c) V Bayley V Mickie James V Mandy Rose V Paige V Sasha Banks ​

The event opened with the first ever women’s elimination chamber for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship. Bayley and Mandy Rose kicked the match off going back and forth until the timer ran out which brought Paige into the match. The two Absolution members double teamed Bayley but failed to eliminate her, the fourth entrant into the match was Sasha Banks who evened the odds.Banks trapped Rose in the Bank Statement and forced her to submit.

Eventually the other two entrants Mickie James and WWE RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss made their respective ways into the match. Paige was eliminated following a double team move from Bayley and Banks, Bliss got the better of James with Twisted Bliss. In the end it came down to Bliss, Banks and Bayley who all got a chance to show what they brought to the dance but in the end Bliss threw Banks into Bayley and rolled up the former and then hit a Snap DDT to put Bayley down.

Next the Hardy’s(c) defended the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships against the Revival. The challengers earned this title match by defeating the Bar on an episode of Monday Night RAW. The conclusion of the match saw Wilder tag in Dawson who knocked Matt off the apron and then hit the Shatter Machine on Jeff with Dawson getting the pin.

After that the winner of the 2018 Women’s Royal Rumble match the “Empress” Asuka put her WrestleMania Opportunity on the line in an open challenge which was answered by NXT’s Kairi Sane. This match was more of a showcase match and not an official call up for Sane who gave it her all but in the end fell to an Empress Kick.

In the fourth match of the night the “Samoan Savage” Samoa Joe(c) defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship in another open challenge. Just like the previous match this one was another showcase match and not a call up and it was also answered by an NXT talent in Johnny Gargano,
Joe got the win by trapping “Johnny Wrestling” in the Coquina Clutch and he passed out in the hold.

Finally the main event saw six of Monday RAW’s top male superstars compete in an elimination chamber match for a shot at the WWE Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 34. The Miz began the match with the leader of Balor Club Finn Balor neither man would eliminate the other before the time ran out. In fact there wouldn’t be an elimination before all six men had entered the fray.

Strowman eliminated Miz, Wyatt and Balor but then it took a Dirty Deeds from Ambrose and a Curb Stomp from Rollins and that put the monster down for the count. The two remaining men shook hands and then proceeded to beat the hell out of each other determined to no excuse when a winner was crowned. The final minutes of the match saw Ambrose lock Rollins in a Bulldog Choke, only for Rollins to reverse the pressure and forced Ambrose’s shoulders to the mat for a three count and the same time that he passed out in the hold.
