SmackDown, Airing December 28th:

* Sheamus kicks off SmackDown and says his New Year's resolution is to become World Heavyweight Champion. He calls out Big Show to the ring. Show comes out and says Sheamus won't be getting a title shot. Sheamus came for a fight and Booker T comes out. Show says Sheamus and nobody else in the locker room is worthy of a shot. Booker says the name of every Superstar will go into a tumbler and whoever gets picked will face Show for the title later tonight.

The entire locker room comes out to see who gets the title shot. Santino Marella's name is picked and he will face Big Show later tonight for the World Heavyweight Title.

* Epico vs. Brodus Clay is up next. Brodus wins a quick squash. Rosa Mendes gets in the ring and starts yelling at him after the match. Naomi and Cameron lay her out and then dance with Brodus and some kids.

* Backstage segment with Sheamus and Santino. Sheamus shows Santino how to beat Big Show with the Brogue Kick. Santino tries to do the kick and acts like he pulls his groin.

* Wade Barrett, Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes vs. Kane, Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston is up next. Barrett gets the win for his team by pinning Kofi.

* Backstage with Booker T and Big Show. Booker says Santino is injured so they will pick another name out of the tumbler. Booker says Show will find out soon enough who it is.

* Teddy Long brings in Big Show's opponent and it's Ricardo Rodriguez. Big Show laughs and knocks him out with a punch. Booker says this is ridiculous and Show leaves.

* Zack Ryder vs. Antonio Cesaro is up next. Cesaro wins a quick match.

* The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler is up next. Big E Langston distracted The Miz, allowing for Ziggler to hit his finisher and get the win. Miz takes the mic and tells AJ Lee that no matter which Superstar she ends up with on New Years, the night will end with a bang. Ziggler attacks him and they go at it until Langston comes in and lays out Miz.

* Booker is backstage with a doctor and Ricardo Rodriguez. The doc says RR can't compete. Brad Maddox appears and asks Booker for one more chance. Booker says this is it and his match is up next. Alberto Del Rio comes in and says the next time he sees Big Show, he's going to open him like a pinata. Booker offers Del Rio the title shot against Show tonight and he accepts.

* Brad Maddox comes out with a mic. He says his New Years resolution is to become a WWE Superstar. His opponent Sheamus is out next. Sheamus wins a squash.

* The Usos beat Darren Young and Titus O'Neil in a quick match.

* Striker is backstage with Big Show. Show says if Del Rio wants to get knocked out tonight then he will make it a trifecta.

* Big Show vs. Del Rio in the main event. Show tries to leave the match but Sheamus comes out and attacks him, trying to get him back in the ring. The bell rings so it appears Show won by DQ. Show tries leaving again but the entire locker room comes out and throws him back in the ring. Sheamus hit him with a Brogue Kick and then celebrated to end it.

Show looks quite skippable... I wonder how Maddox will actually get his contract and looks like Miz/Ziggler feud which I don't mind at all.

I'm liking the idea of Langston kind of being Ziggler's muscle. But honestly, this show seems a little dry. It's obvious they don't really have anything in terms of a main event scene.

This Smackdown just cries: "WE MISS HENRY!"

Smackdown has not been as entertaining since. Their main event scene is lacking, greatly. They can only do Sheamus/Show so many more times. And for the love of God, keep Del Rio away from the world title. Orton is not the answer as well. I want to see some new faces. Give Swagger another chance, bring back Henry. Just the main event scene on smackdown is joke worthy

This does seem like a bit of a nothing show.

What stood out to me was The Usos actually getting and winning a match on tv. They definitely could use a few more names in the mainevent scene just to keep it fresh, Henry and Christian back would add a lot of depth.

Ring in would be good I think but I dont think this show makes me want to see. I wish there would be Santino vs Show instead of ADR vs Show. Santino has good in ring skills actually, we saw that at Elimination Chamber this year.

Jebus I'd love to know how many episodes of SD this year ended with Sheamus Brogue kicking someone, surely it must be at least 50 out of 52 because that's what it feels like. Its the same exact guys doing the same exact thing every single week, get Sheamus's big dull ass far far away from the World Title scene he's done nothing but stink it up ever since he beat Daniel Bryan.

...in that classic match at Extreme Rules? I know his reign wasn't the most memorable or anything, but I'd hardly say he stunk up the World title scene while he was champion. Apart from his poor feud with Del Rio (which still had some pretty good matches) he's put on some really entertaining stuff (match-wise at least) with the likes of Daniel Bryan and Big Show.

I do agree that too many Smackdown's seem to end with Sheamus being all smiles after giving someone the Brouge Kick though. Smackdown needs a big shake up, because it's been fairly stale for the past few months now.

I was more talking about the WM match. We went from having a WHC who was just getting more and more over with the fans in Daniel Bryan, someone who has in fact gotten even more over with the fans since to a guy who had a terrible feud with Del Rio and a now a forgettable/boring/repetitive feud with Show. For a guy who's only been WHC for a few months this year he's been in the title scene for the entire year Brogue kicking everybody into oblivion, he's beyond stale and has flopped as a face, failing to get over with the fans. Though terrible booking plays a part in that, WWE seem to have no idea how to book face Sheamus.

I figured you mean the WrestleMania match, I just wanted to point out that since then he's put on some really entertaining bouts.

To be fair, I agree with a lot of the points your making. It probably wasn't the best time for them to give him the title, considering how over Bryan was, and he's been in the main event for too much of 2012, but I still don't think his title reign was as bad as people are making out it was. Despite being unable to find a good balance with his face character, he's still put on some fantastic matches this year. His matches with Daniel Bryan and Big Show (the one at HIAC especially) were all great, and showed that he can get it done in the ring. He's also been pretty over this year, despite being involved in some bad booking decisions.

For me the only problem with him is his character, and his character alone is probably why some people don't look back too fondly on his title reign. He's too smiley for a brawler, and some of his promos can be cringe worthy. Granted, he's shown a more serious side since dropping the belt but I'm not sure if they're going to have him stay that way.

He's been hit and miss this year to be honest, but I still think his strengths have out weighed his weaknesses.

The six man sounds easyily the highlight here.

IMO Sheamus recent reign had a slow start but got better as it went along and in the end I felt he made a decent face champion.

Sheamus not being over with the crowd and failing as a face is one thing I definitely wouldn't level his way. Say he's cheesy, stale, overpushed etc but I just don't can't agree with the original comments at all.

One thing he and SmackDown as a whole really, suffers with is that the show is almost identical every week following the same basic formula.

This. Randy Orton and Sheamus get a clean pin seemingly every single week while canned audience pops fill the tv speakers.

No doubt he's had some good matches. But everything else his promos, his drawn out feuds, the way he's booked as a happy brawler/lame comedian/super Cena V2 has been terrible. He's indicative of all of Smakdowns problems, the same thing happens every week (Sheamus wins match, Sheamus closes show with a Brogue kick), and the roster isn't big enough for Smackdown, ADR v Sheamus dragged on for way to long because there was no one else, now Sheamus v Big Show is dragging along (seriously how many shots at the belt does Sheamus get?) because there's nobody else to challenge Big Show.
