Steel Cage Smackdown?

This thread is to discuss Smackdown as it airs in your country. Please keep the spoilers out of it as there is a seperate thread for spoilers.

Smackdown is airing right now in Australia so I will add some of my thoughts during the show in this thread. Hopefully some other members from Australia join in and then throughout the day UK and US viewers can add their thoughts as it airs in their country if they are watching it.

David Otunga and Johnny Ace start the show in the ring by announcing a steel cage match for the United States championship. I like the storyline behind this with Johnny Ace pulling out all the stops to impress the fans and the Board of Directors. It is like that parent that will buy their kick any thing they want just to get in their good books.

Jack Swagger getting plenty of offence in early on and he is looking sharp with his combover. Really do not like that pinfalls and submissions are allowed in a cage match, should only be escape over the top of through the cage. Nice spot early when Santino tries to escape, Swagger stops him, Santino goes for a crossbody but Swagger catches him and then rams him into the cage.

Santino kicked out of the Swagger Bomb earlier. I was gobsmacked, doesn't look good for Swagger if Santino is kicking out of that. The finish was okay and kind of what you would expect for Santino. He tries to escape through the door but Swagger grabs his legs and locks in the ankle lock. Vickie on the outside grabbed the open cage door and slammed it thinking that she would hit Santino but she ended up hitting Swagger allowing Santino to escape and retain his title. As Santino celebrates we see Teddy Long come out and hug him for winning.

Next segment is Teddy Long begging Johnny Ace not to go ahead with the Kane Aksana match. Johnny Ace says that they should settle this man to man but in a slight twist the deal is if Teddy wins then the match happens. Johnny Ace must want to get the easy victory to be seen to be strong over Teddy.

Sitting through a RAW recap where we see HBK and HHH talking about HHH's match with Taker and the fact that HBK is now the ref.

Does anyone else hate that we see RAW recaps on Smackdown but on RAW we don't see Smackdown recaps? Shows what brand WWE really care about.

Another nice segment to get Johnny ace some more heat with Johnny offering Drew McIntyre his spot back if he can defeat a mystery opponent. Swerve when Great Khali comes out first but Otunga comes out and says that the real opponent is Hornswoggle. Drew destroys him and hurts him so bad that Hornswoggle can't continue and so he wins. Post match Khali hits a chop on Drew to steal some of his heat.

Look forward to seeing what happens next with Drew's gimmick. I hope that he sticks with Johnny Ace and becomes his hitman in return for being given his job back.

Some terrible acting by Aksana backstage right now.

Ezekiel Jackson vs. Mark Henry up now. Ezekiel Jackson is a beast of a man, he is huge but doesn't seem to have any personality. Mark Henry dominating early until Henry misses an elbow drop. Jackson gets a little bit of offence in but it doesn't last long at all and a WSM and it is over. Noticed that Ezekiel was wearing an earing during the match not a smart thing to do at all and it shouldn't be allowed.

Nice little aside with WWE hyping Mark Henry's induction to the Sports HOF for his powerlifting, weightlifting and strongman work.

Bit of a wasted segment on the Teddy vs. Johnny match. Teddy wins and then Orton stops the attack from Kane. Good to know that Kane is getting destroyed again :/

Now this is what I wanted to see. Epico and Primo facing Kofi and R-Truth in a tag team match. Rosa Mendes is failing at trying to do a Maryse impression on the ring apron.

Wonder if WWEShop will start selling Epico and Primo ponchos?

Awesome tag team move by Epico/Primo. Kofi was running the ropes and Epico on the ring apron held open the middle and top ropes so that Kofi fell through the ropes and out of the ring. Can't remember seeing that spot in a long time.

:( Epico and Primo just lost again. Surely this means that Kofi Kingston and R-Truth get a title shot. I hope that this eventually leads to a match at WM, there is plenty of space on the card and this would be a good undercard match.

Did You Know that last week Smackdown was the #1 show on SyFy for the 75th week in a row. Shows that Smackdown is very important to the network so it should give WWE plenty of leverage when it comes to signing a new deal. Still think that WWE's long term plans have to be to make Smackdown an equal to RAW rather than it's little brother.

Yet another RAW Recap showing that Smackdown is the inferior show. This time it is The Rock's promos which is a good thing since they are quality.

:lmao at Santino doing the trombone on the announce table and also at Michael Cole having the cardboard cut out face of Johnny Ace

Cage match was alright. Nice way to open up Smackdown too.

I wish they would stop showing the Raw Rebound too. If people care enough, they can go watch it on Youtube or download the episode.

Nice to see Drew getting some mic time. Good to see him mentioning Johnny's name as the reason why he's back on Smackdown this week and not at home after being fired by Teddy Long last week.
