Another potential update has surfaced regarding WWE’s plans for an upcoming special on NBC this December.

As noted, WWE has filed to trademark Saturday Night’s Main Event to bring back the iconic show from the company’s past live specials on NBC.

In another update, on the latest Straight Talk with The Boss w/ Magnum TA and Greg Gagne podcast, Gagne noted that the reason WWE recently signed Jesse Ventura to a contract is to have him return to his old-school role as color-commentator for the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC special.

“I mean, with what they’re paying those guys to come in, I think Jesse’s going to do the — they’re doing some NBC Saturday night shows, about four of them, they’re gonna use Jesse for that,” Gagne said.​

WWE's iconic Saturday Night Main Event returns to NBC on December 14 in primetime​

September 17, 2024 – WWE and NBC announce the return of the iconic Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will air live on Saturday, December 14 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and simulcast on Peacock. The special will be held at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y., the site of the first-ever Saturday Night’s Main Event.

This marks the first primetime special, which will air quarterly on NBC and Peacock, as part of WWE’s new, five-year domestic media rights partnership with NBCUniversal, which officially kicked off last Friday with SmackDown on USA Network.

Saturday Night’s Main Event originally premiered on NBC in May of 1985.

Jesse Ventura is gearing up for his WWE return.

As noted, the WWE Hall of Fame legend and former Minnesota Governor recently inked a WWE Legends contract after appearing on an episode of WWE Raw in Minneapolis.

In an update, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Ventura is scheduled to have an on-air role at the upcoming WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event special event.

According to the report, Ventura’s exact role is still undetermined. While it is expected that he will do commentary in some form or fashion, and/or an interview segment, the pro wrestling legend is not likely to call the entire show.

The idea is for Ventura to be included on the show for nostalgia reasons, as he was the voice of many of the original WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event shows on NBC.

Ventura teased the appearance in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet.

“There’s even more, bigger and better stuff waiting to happen,” Ventura told Van Vliet.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is scheduled to return on NBC on December 14, 2024.​

In an update on the show, Meltzer is now reporting that Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens has been internally discussed about taking place on the return episode of SNME.

Meltzer added, “While not 100 percent, we’re told it looks like the first Rhodes vs. Owens title match would be on that show.”

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will be taking place on December 14, 2024, from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, NY.​

WWE issued an email today announcing additional tickets have been released for the 12/14 Saturday Night's Main Event at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island.

The email noted, "We're bringing that old school look and feel to Nassau Coliseum on De‍cember 14 for the return of Satu‍rday Night's Main Event!"

The old school "look and feel" they are touting is that the company will indeed be going old school for the event, not just in the presentation on the NBC broadcast but also in the setup of the Coliseum itself, which also hosted the very first SNME special in the 1980s. The event will feature full arena seating, as opposed to a portion of the venue being closed off due to the Titantron staging usually seen at Raw and Smackdown tapings.​
