WWE will run two pay-per-views this May, according to a report.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reports that WWE has Backlash scheduled for Saturday, May 6, plus King and Queen of the Ring set for Saturday, May 27.

The May 27 date is on Memorial Day weekend, traditionally the weekend that AEW holds their Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas. AEW has run on the Sunday of that weekend the past two years after running Saturday for the first two Double or Nothing events.

The report notes that this year's Backlash will not have the "WrestleMania Backlash" title that the event had in 2021 and 2022.

WWE filed for the "King and Queen of the Ring" trademark in December 2022.

King of the Ring was a standalone pay-per-view for WWE from 1993 to 2002, and the tournament has since been incorporated into programming sporadically.

Xavier Woods was the most recent King of the Ring, winning a tournament final at Crown Jewel in 2021. Zelina Vega was the winner of the 2021 "Queen's Crown" tournament final at the same event.

WWE's PPV schedule for the year to this point:

  • WWE WrestleMania 39 night one, Saturday, April 1
  • WWE WrestleMania 39 night two, Sunday, April 2
  • WWE Backlash, Saturday, May 6
  • WWE King and Queen of the Ring, Saturday, May 27
  • WWE Money in the Bank, Saturday, July 1
  • WWE SummerSlam Saturday, August 5

I know the KOTR name has historical value as a PPV but man if they're gonna have both tournaments please come up with some other name lmao and not "King and Queen of the Ring" either, go with Quest for the Crown or something idk plenty of royalty related name ideas I'm sure

Was a bit sceptical about running two events so close to each other but I guess in theory the lineups for them should be totally different. I think he's got to up the importance of being the winners of the KOTR & QOTR though because I have my doubts about this event being a success given how it's been treated for a long time now.

I'm perfectly content with the KOTR/QOTR and Backlash being in the same month. With two tourneys that will be what is focused on that one show, don't expect too much of "feuds" going on. I will agree that the entire winning the tournament needs to be more than just getting stuck with a royalty gimmick for a few months until it gets played out.

WWE is reportedly returning to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in May.

A new report from PWInsider notes that WWE will return to Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 27 for the King and Queen of the Ring event. The working plan is to hold the event in the capital city of Riyadh, but that has not been confirmed. There’s no word yet on the venue.

WWE filed to trademark “WWE King and Queen of the Ring” back in December, so this looks to be the working title for the show.

It was recently reported that WWE had two big Premium Live Events scheduled for May – WWE Backlash on Saturday, May 6, and the King and Queen of the Ring event on Saturday, May 27. The location has now been revealed for Saudi Arabia.

The King and Queen of the Ring event will be held during Memorial Day Weekend, which is when AEW usually holds their Double Or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas. The event is booked for May 28 this year.

Meh….

KOTR hasn’t meant anything since Booker T won it and at this point, I think it’s past rehabilitation

They need to make it mean something again. Easiest way to do that is to make it worth something. I said it when Woods won(2021 or 2022, can’t remember) the winner should get an IC title match.

Instead they get saddled with a gimmick that’s only worked for one person in the last 20 years
