Would be nice but I can't really afford to do that at the moment

Have you tired doing a system restore in safe mode?

No I suppose that will be my next try after the show is over

try to do it in safe mode and if that doesnt work turn off the laptop and begin pressing esc which should open up HP Startup Menu

and pick/press f2 to open system diagnostics and check that

There some more things to do and no problem

If anything you may have to reinstall windows

If all else fails you may have to replace the hard drive

I hope not but I guess you''ll never know. This actually started about a month ago when I let windows 10 update.. normally I don't do that
