I don’t think anybody is necessarily a fan of ratings, but unfortunately, with the way television works it’s still the only real way they have of figuring out whether or not a program is worth keeping on their network or not because ad dollars are generally still largely based on whether or not people are tuning in live to see the ads.
The great thing about streaming though is it’ll help break that down because it’ll be less about people watching at that specific time and more about are they bringing people into the service.
