Championships and jobs are on the line!
Everyone's talking about CM Punk and Bryan Danielson right now, aren't they? With rumours flying about their destinations, it feels only appropriate to go back to one of the absolute highlights of their time together in WWE. The storyline is simple: Punk needs a new challenger, and Executive Administrator Eve Torres set several Beat the Clock matches in order to determine the next one. Bryan gets the fastest time, dispatching Jerry Lawler in just over two minutes, so here we are. Two great wrestling guys, doing a good wrestle.
But of course, as is the story of Punk's 2012 run as WWE champion, it doesn't main event. That honour goes to... sigh... John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis. The hoarse-voiced prick himself has been using "People Power" (those people being big heels) to drive Cena off WWE. And instead of using fake Japanese guy and new monster Lord Tensai (who has recently pinned Cena clean!), he puts himself in, in a No DQ match. The Board of Directors step in, and set appropriate stipulations: if Johnny Ace loses, he gets fired, and if any WWE employee interferes on his behalf, they will gets fired too. Remember the exact words of that phrase.
You can't have a two-match show, of course, so here's the other matches.
- The World Heavyweight Championship is put up in a Fatal 4-Way! Champion Sheamus has lost by DQ to Alberto Del Rio, pinned in a tag match by Chris Jericho, and managed to piss off Randy Orton, so I guess they all get an opportunity!
- There's a big 20-man battle royal for a shot at one of WWE's secondary championships. The winner will have to freshen up quickly, as they'll go up against US Champion Santino Marella or IC Champion Cody Rhodes later in the night!
- Tag team belts are a thing, I guess, and current champions Kofi and R-Truth are defending against Vickie Guerrero's stable of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger!
- A Divas Title match between two actually decent wrestlers, before Paige happened? Incredible to think it, but it's true as Beth Phoenix challenges champ Layla! This match happened because Phoenix missed a WrestleMania match due to injury, Layla took her place and won the title. Now Phoenix wants her shot!
- Ryback is continuing his tear of destruction through WWE's lower card, and he's now up against Camacho! These two have had very different career trajectories since this match...
