WWE is working on repackaging Keith Lee with a new character, possible heel turn

It looks like there are plans being worked on for when Keith Lee returns to WWE TV.

The former NXT Champion has been working on dark matches in recent weeks. As previously noted, PWInsider reported that Lee has been doing short squash matches before Raw and SmackDown as a way to “refine” him and figure out what works best for him going forward.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer had a small update on Lee. According to Meltzer, the idea behind bringing him to TV every Monday and Friday is that they want to change Lee’s style and to give him a new character and so they want him to practice in front of fans.

Lee has been getting babyface reactions during the dark matches but WrestlingNews.co was told that Vince McMahon has considered turning him into a monster heel.

Lee returned a few weeks ago after being sidelined for months with health issues. After testing positive for COVID-19 in February, he battled issues with his heart.

I wouldn't say he even has a character as is but i'll take any Keith with some direction behind him.​

Keith as a monster heel would be great. Really like the guy a lot, but definitely not really much character about him. Just make it so he comes out and destroys people. I think he's better just doing his talking in the ring.

He looked legit across from Brock at the Rumble last year. I thought he'd be doing more by now.

We never truly got a Main Roster Keith Lee getting any long momentum and they possibly want him a Heel going forward risky. He would have the juice though after all that frustration to turn a Heel run into something special.

Keith Lee really needs a change in character because on the main roster he didn't have none. Maybe this will finally give him some direction and focus.

From what I saw in his dark match when I was at Raw he looked great. He also looked like he angry so they may be onto something with the heel turn.

Dont let this distract you from the fact that, if Keith Lee was exactly how he was in NXT then him getting over wouldnt have been an issue and they really didnt have to do anything, but like every other NXT callup, they feel a need to change him, water him down, and what we get is a worse version of liee.

Hes probably gonna get the Karian Kross treatment, i would say he will likely be reduced to the mid card, but thankfully hes a big fella, so hes atleast got a chance.
