The man of many ring names is returning back to where he earned his first one as PW Insider's Mike Johnson reported Thursday morning that John Morrison is returning to WWE for the first time in eight years.

No contract details or start date was given. Our Dave Meltzer also confirmed the report.

The 39-year-old has remained busy since leaving WWE in late-2011 with runs in Lucha Underground, AAA, and Impact Wrestling. He has also been involved with several independent film projects and TV shows including an appearance on CBS' Survivor.

Morrison (real name John Hennigan) won a developmental contract on the third season of WWE Tough Enough in 2002. After working in OVW, he earned a brief call-up in 2004 before coming up full-time in 2005 as part of MNM with Joey Mercury and Melina. During his six years in WWE, he won the Intercontinental title three times, the tag team titles five times, and the ECW title once.

Wonder what Johnny name he’ll come up this time, Johnny Entertainment?

Good signing for both parties IMO, I was surprised it took this long for him to come back. I can't see him being the top guy like he was in the other companies in WWE obviously, but dude can still go and I look forward to what happens with him.

I think Taya will be in Impact for a good while no matter what. She seems to be really invested in trying to help build that company up.

Anyways, I've never been the biggest fan of Johnny. His initial switch to John Morrison on ECW had my interest but he never lived up to the "potential" he was heralded for. But at worst, in 2019, he's a very solid hand and will have plenty of interest when he re-debuts. I can just imagine him getting drafted to one of the shows as a shock pick and that opening guitar riff hitting, people losing their shit. Then hopefully WWE can get some momentum going for him and he'll do just fine.
