From The Beginning

WWE has changed a lot over the years. Superstars have come and gone, but the brand has stayed. Even through high tides and flooded plains. However, what if everything was different? What if... we went back to square one and began anew? What would the WWE look like then? Would it still be the WWF? Would it have ceased to be under the weight of its rivals? Or would it have been higher than it ever has been before? Well, our tale begins at the "Grandest Stage of Them All": WrestleMania I, where it all begins. From there, we will see a new WWE as we have never seen, one of "what-if"s, and "could-have-been"s. Who knows, perhaps it could be one the usurp the WWE as we know it now? You never know until you take a look.

March 31, 1985
Madison Square Garden
New York, New York

Match 1:
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. The Iron Sheik w/ Freddie Blassie

Our show kicks off with a hotly contested match between a recently debuted "Future Star in the Making" Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and a former WWF World Champion, The Iron Sheik. Sheik and Blassie don't like the idea that someone like Steamboat is deemed a "Future Star" when Sheik himself is the true future of WWF and Hogan is just keeping his belt warm for the "inevitable rematch". Sheik uses his grappling throughout the match to hold down Steamboat and prevent him from using his signature high flying and speedy techniques, but even with that (and a little "help" from Blassie), Ricky mounts a comeback and nearly has Sheik down for the count, but Blassie get in and blasts Steamboat across the back of the head with his cane, forcing the ref to end the match. After the match, Sheik and Blassie put the boots to Ricky Steamboat as the crowd gets raucous and irate at the two.

Results:
Steamboat defeats Sheik by DQ

Match 2:
King Kong Bundy w/ Bobby Heenan vs. "Special Delivery" Jones

Bobby Heenan has spoken for weeks that he's bringing in the "Destroyer", the man who will put the WWF on notice, and here we see the debut of this monstrous man: King Kong Bundy. In an incredibly short match, Bundy squashed jobber "Special Delivery" Jones in under a minute, the crowd clearly does not like the look of this guy, and they like Heenan even less.

Results:
Bundy defeats Jones via Pinfall

Match 3:
Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. The US Express (Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda) w/ Capt. Lou Albano (c)

World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championships

Roberts and Savage debut as a team in January, and run right through the division, earning a title shot in a scant 3 months against the US Express, who have been Tag Champs for a few months as well. Roberts and Savage dominate the match throughout with a few false-hope spots here and there until Rotunda gets the hot tag to Windham, who comes in like a house of fire and throws down on the heel team. The end has a ref distraction as Savage pulls some brass knuckles from his tights and knocks out Windham, getting the pin and the win to become NEW tag team champions!

Results:
Roberts & Savage defeats US Express by Pinfall to become NEW WWF Tag Team Champions

Match 4:
Don Muraco vs. "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka
New York Alley Fight

Don Muraco and Jimmy Snuka: A rivalry that needs little introduction. These two have been at each other's throats for the better part of 3 years, and WWF officials are struggling to find a way to conclude this blood feud between the two. With WrestleMania taking place in Madison Square Garden, it was decided that Snuka and Muraco would finish their rivalry in one of the most grueling matches in wrestling, the "New York Alley Fight". Snuka and Muraco bust each other open during the match and we see chairs, shoes, and tables get broken, abused, and used as weapons, until finally Muraco catches a heavily bleeding Snuka in a sleeper hold, and finally knocks him out for the win in this brawl that leaves the crowd on their feet for the efforts of the two men.

Results:
Muraco defeats Snuka via KO

Match 5:
Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs. Brutus Beefcake w/ Johnny Valiant

Bret Hart and Brutus Beefcake both debuted in January, and both soon began to impress. They're booked in this match as a battle between two hot young talents. With Johnny Valiant in his corner, Beefcake looks to try every trick in the book to pull out the win, but Hart has the ace in the hole, the "Sharpshooter". He manages to counter a piledriver from Beefcake into it and gets Brutus to submit as Johnny looks on, cursing Hart and protesting with the ref.

Results:
Bret Hart defeats Beefcake via Submission

Match 6:
Wendi Richter w/ Cyndi Lauper vs. The Fabulous Moolah (c)
World Wrestling Federation Women's Championship

At The War to Settle The Score, last month, Wendi Richter's hated enemy Fabulous Moolah stole the WWF Women's Championship from her in dubious circumstances. Richter got her rematch after many protests to WWF officials. However, to keep Moolah in check, Richter got a friend to watch her back: Cyndi Lauper. In a stereotypical women's match, Richter managed to defeat Moolah to become a 2-time WWF Women's Champion. Moolah is distraught while Richter and Lauper celebrate in the ring together.

Results:
Wendi Richter defeats Moolah via Pinfall to become NEW WWF Women's Champion

Match 7:
Tito Santana w/ Junkyard Dog vs. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine w/ Jimmy Hart (c)
World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship

A match made possible through strenuous circumstances. Valentine had defeated Santana to become the new Intercontinental Champion in September of 1984, and after the match, he broke Santana's ankle to prevent Tito from being able to compete. However, Santana's friend JYD came to his rescue and the two fought each other while Tito recovered. Now that he's returned, he's earned his rematch against The Hammer. JYD stays by ringside to keep Jimmy Hart from interfering. Tito has the advantage through most of the match, but Valentine keeps him down and does get plenty of shots in to deal damage against Santana. Eventually, Valentine has enough of the fight and leaves the ring to be counted out, leaving a wholly unsatisfying conclusion to the match. Tito and Junkyard Dog stand in the ringside arguing with the ref as the crowd hails boos down upon Valentine and Hart.

Results:
Santana defeats Valentine via Count-Out

Match 8:
Andre The Giant vs. Big John Studd w/ Bobby Heenan
$15,000 Body Slam Challenge

The battle of two Giants. Andre the Giant has been feuding with Bobby Heenan for the past few months and Studd. After getting his head shaved by the Heenan Family, Andre swore revenge on Studd and looked to keep his 15-year undefeated streak alive by slamming Studd in a challenge of $15,000 dollars. Studd looks to become the real "Giant" by putting down Andre once and for all. The match is a bit of a hoss match where knife-edge chops are exchanged, heavy pushes are made, and everyone is choked out until finally Andre musters the strength and momentum to lift up Studd and slamming him down to finally win the match and the $15,000, which he throws to the crowd before Heenan gets the bag and runs off with it.

Results:
Andre The Giant defeats Studd via Body-Slam

Match 9:
Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff & "Rowdy" Roddy Piper w/ "Ace" Cowboy Bob Orton
Special Guest Referees Pat Patterson and Muhammad Ali

Hulk Hogan and Mr. T team up to take on the titanic duo of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. For months, Piper has run his mouth about Hogan and this whole "Rock and Wrestling" phenomenon, calling it the "death of real wrestling" and "a bunch of cockamamie crap". He vows that Hulk Hogan and Mr. T will be put down by the dream team of Orndorff and Piper. The highlight of the match is when T and Piper are in the match at the same time, the crowd going wildly as T takes it to Piper as well as he's getting from Roddy. Eventually chaos ensues and Bob Orton accidentally knocks out Orndorff with his cast and Hogan gets the pin much to the crowd's ecstasy. Piper and Orton leave behind an unconscious Orndorff, who wakes up and realizes what happened. Despite being bested not liking Hogan or T, he feels more betrayed by Orton and Piper and is absolutely livid to have been left behind. In a huge show of respect, he holds out his hand for Hogan and T to shake, as he knows when he's been beaten. Gracious in defeat, he lets Hulk Hogan and Mr. T celebrate to cheers from the crowd as the show ends.

Results:
Hogan & Mr. T defeat Piper & Orndorff via Pinfall

Roberts/Savage would have been definitely amazing. Imagining the two as slimy bastard heels with the tag titles would have made the tag division in 1985 so much more interesting.
