This is also just Divas and Emma's hardly the next Trish or Lita so she wont be breaking ground and excelling out of the piss break/eyecandy role. I'd prefer a Divas roster of Eva Maries over Emma's. Emma's not even attractive, she's the one you settle for when its 4am at the pub and all the glamours have long since left.

The Divas ARE there for eye candy (which becomes unfortunate when a talent can't get in the door for not being pretty enough for TV) because pro-wrestling is basically entertainment tailored for men and even women fans seem to confess to that.

But to say no one cares about women's wrestling? Bullshit. I'm dying for some more character and roster depth for the Divas but the Trish/Lita era was the last time I felt invested in the division. I'll embrace any Diva who can entertain me on a level beyond just being attractive.

Things like AJ and Kaitlyn's PPV match will be remembered over time for it's standout quality compared the sludge of 4 minute fillers we were used to getting, the storyline was balls but the natural rivalry between the two women added so much to the story. The way Eve Torres and AJ changed their characters comes to mind too, I was impressed because AJ's played her character's descent into madness so well and I didn't know Eve could have a crowd in the palm of her hand like she did. Remember Kharma? Imagine if she was around for longer, she could have been a big deal imo for how bloody different she is. You could've believably booked her against half of the men.

Women can get over. Paige and AJ, if booked as a straight up, passionate rivalry between two women over who's the best with no unnecessary bullshit angles (like Big E sending love letters to Paige or whatever), it'll be the most talked about series of women's matches WWE has had in years. The potential is there. AJ is the strongest character on the Divas roster with her mannerisms, she tends to have decent matches and is over with most groups of fans. Paige has the rebellious punk image and looks different from everyone else, so female fans who don't happen to identify with all the giggling models with big tits can probably relate with Paige a bit more. She also looks way more intense in the ring than the other girls, throwing flurries of headbutts and knees while screaming. That's where her personality shines. I can't wait to see these two go for 10-15 minutes on PPV.

Nobody is ever going to give Divas' wrestling a chance, it's automatically described as "piss break" as soon as they get on screen.

It doesn't matter who the are, it always goes back to status quo no matter who the performer was. Everyone likes to act like the Lita/Trish era was so rosy, but outside of a couple of months, they weren't anything more than valets and sub plot for other angles. We like to think Mickie James was this major star, but let's be honest, she was still just fodder for costumed battle royals. Usually all Divas (outside of the real real real real real shitty ones) are given that ONE big angle, than it's back to being in random 3 minute matches and themed battle royals.

Kharma wouldn't have been anything but Khali after her big push, much like Beth Phoenix.

I don't think people say "piss break" when the Divas are on because they think Divas matches are inherently pointless. I think they just recognize filler when they see it, and we're used to seeing Divas used for filler a lot. Even AJ's mega title reign had patches where I remember nothing at all, and sometimes Lita and Trish were just valets even at the peaks (Trish and Lita did help get Christian and Edge, respectively, a good deal more heat though).

I get wrestling needs to have structure and some people just have certain roles. But I also hate leaving a stone unturned if something may be there. If the writers readily assume the audience doesn't want adequately booked feuds between the Divas then we probably won't get any. That's a low ceiling being set when there's evidence to show that not only are there plenty of Divas, now and in the past, with enough talent to be used for more than that, there's also plenty of fans interested in the Divas.

Isn't Total Divas one of WWE's most successful side projects? I may be wrong but isn't there also a growing female audience, especially considering WWE's contribution to women's charities?

I disagree that Kharma was necessarily going to end up the female Khali and I think WWE took Beth Phoenix for granted. We're obviously different and it's your right to not care about whoever you want. I won't argue and try to convince you they're great or anything, but...

Why didn't WWE ever book Beth Phoenix vs Natalya? A few years ago when the top girls where Melina, Maryse, LayCool and whoever (btw remember LAYCOOL!?) Beth vs Nattie was probably the one potential clash that made a segment of fans (well, ones I heard on the web) think "Hmm, now THAT would be interesting". There's a ready-made rivalry that just didn't happen, why the hell not? Did the writers just assume before trying that nobody would want to watch it except the pervs?

Doubt writers wouldn't push something that would be a money maker for the company, not every writer is Bruce Pritchard. If the interest was there, the company would fucking cram it down the audiences throats. There wasn't some nefarious plot to cut the legs off anything that would make money. The interest just wasn't there.

Am I saying there would never be any interest? No, that would be foolish. I just pointed out the painfully obvious, womens athletics have never been a draw. Hell even Ronda Rousey only solo PPV bombed. WNBA has never been close to anything but niche and the only time a female has been a star was solely because of her looks, Danica Patrick, Michelle Wie, Gina Carano.....It's more of an indictment on the target audience who dominate these sports.

It wasn't so long ago that the Tag Titles were in a position not so dissimilar where they were seen as piss breaks but since the WWE actually invested time into them over the past couple of years, they've pretty much become must see matches.

The WWE has given almost every women worth a shit a big angle to get over and it's the audience who didn't respond, we can look back at former Divas like Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, Eve Torres, Beth Phoenix, Maryse and see just how hard they tried with all of them.

Face Eve and heel Beth Phoenix and Maryse were given a lot of air time, and by all rights should've gotten over because those women were fundamentally sound and had charisma and Eve was hotter than a iPad case owned by Emma. Michelle McCool and Layla were given huge heel pushes against Kelly Kelly and Mickie James and it wasn't met with much. I seriously doubt, it's the writers who are programming the audience to not give any of this a chance.

Divas of Doom? No chance, because they couldn't get heat from an apathetic audience. You honestly think WWE wouldn't want more female viewers? Ofcourse not, female demographics get you better sponsorship, and not just redneck shit the 18-34 male demo grabs. I honestly think it's the core male dominated audience who sabotage the Divas' division.

There were a few matches during the AJ reign that really stood out. When I say a few I mean literally 5. It's not their fault they don't get enough time to make anyone invested.


To the emma thing I doubt she was seriously trying to steal it but I could be proven wrong.
