On the first episode of television presented by the company for 2017. Which was rather fittingly an episode of its flagship show aka Monday Night RAW. The General Manager of the brand, Mick Foley took to the ring to make an announcement that had Royal Rumble implications.
He revealed that Big Cass, Braun Strowman, Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Jinder Mahal, Kofi Kingston. WWE USC Roman Reigns©, Rusev, Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins. Would compete in a ten-man mini-Rumble match, with the winner challenging Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship at the ppv.
It started with ten but in the end only one man could be the victor. And that man was none other than Seth Rollins, who eliminated Jericho to win after Y2J had eliminated Roman Reigns.

Fresh off defeating Charlotte Flair at the last ppv event of 2016 aka the Monday RAW exclusive Starrcade. To retain the WWE RAW Women’s Championship, the current champion the “Legit Boss” Sasha Banks© didn’t have to wait too long to see would step up to challenge her next.
As it was not one but two women who wanted to be next in line for a shot at the gold. In the forms of both Summer Rae and the “British Banshee” Paige. Wanting to continue to be a fighting champion, Banks called both of them to meet her in the ring on the go home episode of MNR.
Where she stated that they didn’t have to fight to see who get’s next, as she would take them both on at the Rumble.

After he eliminated the current WWE United States Champion aka Roman Reigns©. In the number one contender mini-rumble match but failed to win said match. “Y2J” Chris Jericho would bitch and moan about how he would be a better champion then Reigns.
Since he was the one that eliminated him, two people took issue with this proclamation. The first being Reigns himself and the second being RAW General Manager Mick Foley.
Reigns ended up going to Foley to ask for a match against Jericho for the gold at the Rumble. Which Foley agreed to and made it official for the ppv.

On an episode of Monday Night RAW, the GM of the show Mick Foley took to the ring. Where he stated that since one half of the WWE RAW Tag Team Champions.
In the form of Cesaro beating Enzo Amore but then Big Cass beating the other half of the champions aka Sheamus. There was only one thing to do and that was for both teams to compete for the gold at the Royal Rumble ppv.

He aka Styles was feeling pretty cocky about his title reign and proclaimed it wouldn’t end before 2018. However, he shut up pretty quickly when the “Leader of the C-Nation” John Cena made his return to the company.
Cena challenged Styles for the title at the Rumble, which the latter accepted by kicking Cena in the balls.

Becky Lynch became the inaugural WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion. At the blue brand exclusive Payback 2016 pay per view event. After managing to defend the title against the likes of Carmella, Eva Marie Naomi and Natalya Neidhart.
On both episodes of Tuesday Night Smackdown and pay per view. The tail end of 2016 saw a new challenger make herself known, in the form of the self-proclaimed “Goddess” Alexa Bliss. Which led to the champion to lay the challenge for the title at the Rumble.

TNS General Manager Daniel Bryan made an appearance and announced a rematch for the Royal Rumble ppv. He made sure to let Maryse know that she would be banned from the building for the event.

American Alpha beat The Wyatt Family (Harper & Rowan) ©. By way of Grand Amplitude on Rowan with Gable getting the pin. To become the new WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
A video package recapped the history between Dolph Ziggler and the WWE Intercontinental Champion the Miz©.
Dolph Ziggler beat the Miz© with the Zig-Zag in a match where Maryse was banned. To win the WWE Intercontinental Championship
