The "Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe joined the Smackdown roster in the weeks leading up to the 2017 Royal Rumble ppv. At the very same event he challenged for and defeated then WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles(c). To become the new champion and to capture his first piece of WWE gold on the main roster. Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan announced that the newly crowned champion would defend gold at the No Way Out PPV. Inside the elimination chamber structure with his opponents being AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Kalisto and Randy Orton.​

Alexa Bliss(c) aka the current WWE Smackdown Women's Champion walked into the Royal Rumble with the title around her waist. When it was all said and done she would walk out of the event with her title reign intact. Going into No Way Out she found her way forward as champion in jeopardy in the form of a new challenger, Becky Lynch. Lynch earned the opportunity by defeating Bliss in a non-title match on an episode of Smackdown.​

Baron Corbin set his sights on both the John Cena(c) and the WWE Intercontinental Championship. By way of repeatedly ambushing the latter and laying him out in brutal brawls and assaults. Cena took to the ring on the go home edition of Smackdown and cut a promo in which he stated that if Corbin wanted a title shot. All he had to do was ask, but remember I am "C-Nation Commander" and if you want some coooome get some. ​

American Alpha(c) VS The Ascension VS Heath Slater & Rhyno VS Hype Bro's VS The Usos VS The Wyatt Family
Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan praised the efforts of the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions aka American Alpha(c). The duo of Chad Gable & Jason Jordan were pleased by the words but asked for a new challenge. So DB announced a six team, tag team turmoil match for the gold at No Way Out. ​

The final match added to the main card of the No Way Out ppv event was a one on one match. Where the winner of said match would earn themselves a future shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. ​

NO WAY OUT
The opening contest of the No Way Out ppv was a one on one men's division match between Apollo Crews and Curt Hawkins. To determine a number one contender to the WWE
Intercontinental Championship. It ended in a no contest when the arena lights went out and when they went back on Bray Wyatt was in the ring. The leader of the Wyatt Family attacked both Crews and Hawkins laying them out with back to back Sister Abigails.

Next Carmella and Naomi squared off to settle their feud which saw the former get the better of the latter with a Superkick. Then the Wyatt Family entered a tag team turmoil match last to defeat American Alpha(c) who began the match. To become the new WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions.

In the fourth match, John Cena(c) just barely beat the "Lone Wolf" Baron Corbin with the Attitude Adjustment. To retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship, after the match Bray Wyatt made another appearance. And proceeded to lay Cena out with a Sister Abigail and then disappear with the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Becky Lynch defeated Alexa Bliss(c) to become a two time WWE Smackdown Women's Champion in the penultimate match.

Finally the show closed out with an Elimination Chamber match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Which saw the defending champion Samoa Joe(c) defy the odds and walk out with the title in a dominate fashion.

Kevin Owens(c) was already the WWE Universal Champion, but after defeating then WWE United States Champion Roman Reigns(c) at the Royal Rumble. He was now a double champion this didn't last long as he gave the title to a visibly irritated Chris Jericho. Owens meant it as a gift to their friendship but it came across like Jericho thought Owens thought he couldn't win the title by himself. A superstar who took issue with the whole situation was Sami Zayn, a man Owens once called a friend. RAW GM Mick Foley made a title match official between Owens and Zayn for the main event of Spring Stampede. ​

Nia Jax beat Bayley on the Royal Rumble KickOff Show to earn a future shot at the WWE RAW Women's Championship. RAW General Manager Mick Foley announced the match for the WWE Spring Stampede ppv event. ​
