Just finished Dune and I'm honestly blown away by it. Visually it's so gorgeous, every aspect of the film just feels perfectly shot. Denis Villeneuve just knows how to wow you as a director. This and Blade Runner 2049 are some of the most captivating movies, they really draw you and the worlds are crafted so beautifully. I also really enjoyed the sound design in this, definitely worth watching it with headphones. I was immersed as hell. Truly an amazing film.

The Revenant might honestly be up there in my Top 3 DiCaprio performances. He's so unbelievably good in it, unrecognisable at times and it's such a breathtaking movie from a visuals standpoint too. Always notice smaller things about the movie each time that I appreciate.

^ all the movies I watched in 2022, given very off-the-cuff star ratings that I came up with on the spot but feel pretty good about. I'd say 3.5 and over is what I'd consider a movie I'd recommend. Most of these are first watches, or at least first times watching and actually paying attention, with just a handful of exceptions being movies I was already familiar with. This is my first year really making a point of watching movies.

Man just watching Good Will Hunting, it's been a while and this movie still hits deep like the first time. Such a beautiful movie. Matt Damon's performance is incredible, and I got a bit teary eyed when Robin Williams starts showing up in it. Some really moving pieces of dialogue. One of those movies very close to being flawless.

I've seen the 84 version and it's good to me for it's time but you saw for sure some of the ideas they couldn't capture as well hit the mark for me in the Remake. I'm really psyched for Part 2 knowing what is going to happen and them having the ability to add some new stuff makes me ready to go. Don't forget they have a Bene Gesserit Show coming which I guess is a Prequel to Dune, and if they want to they go can past Dune Part 2 because theirs alot of chaos that happens involving Paul and his family.

Man, I've seen Interstellar in its entirety a few times now and realising it's one of those movies I'm incapable of making it through it all without getting teary eyed. No matter how many times I see some of those scenes, they always get me. Such a beautifully shot movie with an incredible story, and one of my all-time favourite performances by Matthew McConaughey. He's sensational in it.

Easy to see why it won awards. Really tugs at the heart strings, makes you feel a whole wide range of emotions. Julianne Moore is amazing, perhaps the best performance I've ever seen from her and she's had plenty of stellar ones. Very important and lovely movie worth your time.

Watched Mean Streets earlier and it's always surprising to me how much of a natural De Niro is in one of his early stand-out roles. It's no wonder he went on to have such an incredible career, and starring in Godfather Part 2 and Taxi Driver after this. Such an important movie to look back on because I feel it influenced quite a lot in terms of mob movies following it and really paved the way for a lot of Scorsese's later work afterwards as well, especially his directing style. Dialogue flows absolutely perfect in it, with some great memorable characters and scenes.

Watching Bad Times at the El Royale and I'm already just losing my shit over the cast, there's so many great names in this. Ensemble casts are just so fun. Jeff Bridges & Jon Hamm, instant sell. :owens3 Really digging the visuals a lot, I love noir style movies.

Watched this last night, came out in 2017. I'd never heard of it before.

Very interesting Korean movie. Randomly came across it just scrolling through Netflix's foreign film offerings. So many crazy plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. The film has pretty much like a total genre shift part way through. I was expecting something completely different at the start and it's just pretty awesome the direction it goes in. I didn't figure out where the plot was going to go at all so I just ended up totally shocked the more that unfolds with the story. Reminded me of how mind blown I was when I finished Parasite for the first time. Would highly recommend it.

Watched Paranormal Activity last night and it holds up way better than I expected it to. It's really impressive what they did with that film with such a small budget. Much like Blair Witch, it really nailed the 'realism' feeling and getting you immersed in it. I always like the choice to use unknown actors for found footage type films, because it's much easier to buy in to the idea of it being real footage you're seeing, which makes everything a lot creepier overall. I also still think the acting is pretty damn good in this for the most part. I watched it with headphones on at like 1AM with all the lights off and let me just say it's very effective, I got pretty freaked out still. Even though I had a good memory of how this movie plays out, a lot of the scenes still got me pretty damn terrified and on the edge of my seat. Very fun movie imo, definitely feel as though the first is still worth watching if you never have.

I coulda sworn I had seen this movie before but I guess not because none of it seemed familar whatsoever. Perhaps I might have got it mixed up with The Innkeepers. Anyways, I really enjoyed it a lot. Might even be one of my favourites from Ti West now. He reailly does such a great job making his movies feel authentic to the era, like I could totally buy this had come out in the 80's. It's just totally spot on. Appreciated the slow burn horror, fantastic atmosphere right from the beginning and the lead actress Jocelin Donahue was really likeable. Very fun movie.
