I've been wanting to do a thread on all the plans and rumors concerning Wrestlemania matches that almost happened for quite some time. I wanted to start working on it the week before WM, and finishing in time for WM weekend, but WWE.com stole my thunder with their Top 10 Untold Stories and WM Matches that Never happened. However, B convinced to do it anyway.

Apologies for posting this after the WM weekend. I planned on posting this Sunday morning, but I kept finding new information, which tremendously slowed down my progress.

So, here it is:

Wrestlemania

wrestlemania_one.jpg

Hulk Hogan & Ricky Steamboat vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff

This was the rumored plan B for the main event of the first Wrestlemania. There was genuine concern about Mr. T not showing up. For this reason, Steamboat wasn't booked that night, and was kept as contingency plan should Mr T fail to show up. But he did show up, and the original plan materialized.

Wrestlemania II

Logo-wm02.jpg

Hulk Hogan vs Piper

The first Wrestlemania event featured Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper Paul Orndorff as the main event. Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper was supposed to be the main event of Wrestlemania 2. It never materialized. It's possible that neither man could agree on a finish. Hogan wrestled King Kong Bundy that night, and Mr. T was elected as Piper's opponent.

Bret Hart vs Ricky Steamboat

Bret Hart recently revealed that the original plan was for him to wrestle Steamboat, which was like a dream come true for Hart. About a month before WM2, he was told that the plans were shelves and he would participate place in the Battle Royal instead. Steamboat wrestled Hercules Hernandez instead of Hart.

Wrestlemania III

wrestlemania_three.jpg

Paul Orndorff vs Hulk Hogan

There was genuine concern for Andre the Giant's health before the PPV. There was a distinct possibility that he couldn't be able to compete. Paul Orndorff was selected as potential replacement for Andre. Orndorff was kept off the card, just in case. He even turned again Hogan some time before the show, so him facing Hogan wouldn't be entirely out of the blue. Fortunately, was able to show up that night, and along with Hogan wrote a big page of wrestling history.

Wrestlemania IV

WrestleMania-4-logo.jpg

Macho Man Randy Savage vs Honky Tonk Man - Intercontinental Championship

Ted DiBiase vs Bam Bam Bigelow - Tournament final for the vacant WWF Championship

Originally, Savage was to win the IC Title from HTM, and and DiBiase win the tournament and be crowned the new WWF champion. However, Honky Tonk Man complained to Vince McMahon about this (Like he always did, really), telling him Savage didn't deserve the belt. For some unholy reason, Vince gave in to his demands, and Savage was out of the IC title run for WM. HTM accepted to job to Brutus Beefcake...but by DQ only.

This left Savage without concrete plans for WM. He was put in the tournament for the vacant WWF Championship. He was booked to win the belt, by defeating DiBiase in the final match. Basically, HTM throwing a hissy fit ended up costing Ted his one and only world title in his career. He never forgave him for it.

Wrestlemania V

wrestlemania_five.jpg

Ted DiBiase vs Hulk Hogan - WWF Championship

There was no actual plan for WM5. But it's definitely possible Ted DiBiase would have defended his title against Hulk Hogan, had Ted won the belt at WM4.

Wrestlemania VI

wrestlemania_six.jpg

Hulk Hogan vs Zeus - WWF Championship

Hulk Hogan vs Macho Man Randy Savage II - WWF Championship

Hulk Hogan vs Mr Perfect - WWF Championship

Several names were considered to challenge Hulk Hogan for his world title at Wrestlemania 6. One of them was Zeus. Yes, the same character from No Holds Barred Vince hired to promote the film. Plans fell through quickly, though. Perhaps because Vince realized that No Hold Barred was a failure at the Box Office and having the star of such a failure of a movie main event your most profitable show of the year was probably a bad idea.

Another idea was for Hogan and Macho Man to go at it for a second time. It would have been very profitable, so not sure why it never materialized. Perhaps Vince was insisting to build new stars at the time.

Vince then suggested Mr. Perfect. He was to win the 1990 edition of the Royal Rumble, but Hogan hated the idea so much that he ended up booking himself as the winner of the Rumble...

Ultimate Warrior was eventually selected.

Wrestlemania VII

wm7.jpg

Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan II - WWF Championship

This was to be a rematch of the previous year, with Warrior possibly losing the belt to Hogan this time around. However, the main event had to be changed after the Ultimate Warrior's babyface run turned out to be somewhat of a financial disappointment. Moreover, it was deemed that a Face vs Heel would be a bigger draw. Warrior was booked to lose the belt to then Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. "Sarge" Slaughter, due to the interference of Macho Man...I mean, Macho King, at the Royal Rumble. Hogan won the RR match and would successfully face Slaughter for the title at WM, while Warrior would have an incredible retirement match against Macho King.

Legion of Doom vs Demolition

When LOD arrived to WWF, they were the most dominating face tag team. When came time for Wrestlemania 7, there was some serious talk of LOD facing the other dominating tag team: Demolition. The match never took place though.

Interesting piece of trivia about the event: The move from the Los Angeles Memorial Colliseum to the Sports Arena had nothing to do with WWF Officials fearing for Slaughter's life. The company quickly realized that filling 100 000 seats would be an impossible feat, especially with Warrior not being the draw he was expected to become. As such the move to the local Sports Arena was inevitable.

Wrestlemania VIII

wrestlemania8logo.jpg

Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair for the WWF Championship

Macho Man Randy Savage vs Jake the Snake Roberts

Sid Justice vs Undertaker

Everyone is aware that at WM8, Ric Flair was scheduled to face Hogan for the WWF Title. Other planned a babyface Sid to face the heel Undertaker (Sid was to win this one), and Macho Man vs Jake Roberts. There are two stories about why the Flair / Hogan match never took place. First, fearing the lack of big draws Wrestlemania 9, Vince McMahon apparently decided save the match as trump card and delay it by a full year. The other story is Hogan wanting to retire / take a sabbatical year from wrestling to make movies. Either way, Hogan couldn't be be the one facing Flair, who was the champion at the time. (and if he did and Flair won, the crowd would leave the arena unhappy). So, Sid was turned heel and was booked in what was to be Hogan's "Farewell match". Being the biggest draw after Hogan, Macho Man was naturally selected as the Chosen one to face Flair for the belt (and Savage stole the show, for the second year in a row). This however left Jake the Snake and Undertaker without matches. Fearing disinterest of the audience at watching two heels face each other, Undertaker was turned face and was booked to fight Jake Roberts at WM8. This move turned out to be a genius one, as the face turn would be pivotal for Taker's career, arguably one of most phenomenal careers in the business. Also, had Taker faced Sid Justice, he would have lost. Can you believe a world without Taker's streak?

British Bulldog vs Berserker

Match didn't take place because of time constraints.

Marty Jannetty vs Shawn Michaels

Marty Jannetty was to face his former tag team partner, HBK Shawn Michaels. However, Jannetty was under arrest at the time, and couldn't compete. HBK was given El Matador Tito Santana.

LOD vs . Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase & IRS) for the Tag Team Championship

Didn't happen because Hawk was still under suspension and wasn't allowed to wrestle. LOD, along with a returning Paul Ellereing, appeared that night for an interview with Mean Gene. Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake) would replace LOD as the challengers for the tag titles (in a losing effort).

Also, Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper almost didn't take place. Some time prior to the Royal Rumble, Bret lost the IC title belt to The Mountie, in no small part thanks to high fever and Bret competing against doctor's orders. In fact, Bret's future in the company was at the time anything but certain. From what I understand, Vince wanted a Bret vs Piper match for the IC belt, with Piper walking in as the champion. Which meant that Bret had to drop the belt (and the Mountie was the chosen by Vince). Problem is, after dropping the belt, Bret was having talks to join WCW. In the meantime, Piper crushed The Mountie in five minutes at the Royal Rumble. Vince still had faith the Bret / Piper match would happen. Turns out he was right. Bret's talks with WCW ended up being very brief, and decided to come back to WWF, in time for Wrestlemania 8.

It's interesting to note that the very end had to be improvised. Papa Shango missed his cue by at least three minutes and by the time he came to the ring, Sid had to improvise the whole thing (I still can't believe he had the balls to kick out of Hogan's Leg Drop).

Wrestlemania 8 would have been a very different event had things turned out as planned.

Wrestlemania IX

4230944.jpg

Randy Savage vs Bret Hart - WWF Championship

Following Ric Flair's departure from WWF, a Flair/Hogan WM9 match became nothing but a dream. Bret Hart's popularity was growing but was not quite at the status of superstars like Hogan or Savage. In an effort to make the PPV the biggest draw possible, Savage was selected . He was to job to Bret, which would have solidified Hart's status as a superstar, as well as cementing his credibility as champion. It would have been a great main event. However, it never never took place, and Savage was used as commentator during the show. Vince was apparently really big on Yokozuna (no pun intended), and was adamant about two new generation superstars competing for the belt, and Savage was deemed too old. If so, it wouldn't explain why Hogan was allowed to wrestle that night (not once but TWICE), and ended burying the two next generation superstars...

Marty Jannetty vs Shawn Michaels - IC Championship

They had been building their feud for quite some time prior to the show. However, Jannetty was fired because it was rumored that he was under the influence of drugs/or alcohol, which Jannetty firmly denied (HBK himself was the source of the rumors). HBK ended up defending his belt against Tatanka.

Wrestlemania X

wmx.jpg

The Headshrinkers, Jeff Jarrett, I.R.S., Rick Martel vs 1-2-3 Kid, Smoking Gunns, Tatanka & Bob "Spark Plug" Holly

WWE.com covered this one. According to Sean Waltman, this was the expendable match of the evening, and was be written off should any match take longer than expected. It never took place, after Razor and Shawn went way overtime. However, the match was done on the the following night on RAW.

Contrary to popular belief, Lex Luger was never originally supposed to win the belt fro Yokozuna. Luger himself confirmed it recently. Vince basically informed him a whole year in advance that he wouldn't become champions. So the rumors of him getting a little too drunk and chatty, and accidentally giving away the results of WM are just that: rumors.

Wrestlemania XI

wm11a.jpg

Owen Hart vs Bret Hart

There was a lot of talk of a brother vs brother rematch, possibly for the WWF Championship. Which would have been fantastic. With Diesel's popularity growing exponentially in 1994, plans changed and both he and HBK would main event that night. Bret would face Bob Backlund in what he described as his worst WM match (though I'm sure he said that before WM26...), and Owen was put in the tag team title match, winning the belts with Yokozuna.

HBK was scheduled to win the title belt. However, he convinced Vinnie Mac that his good friend Kevin Nash would be better suited to win that night and keep the belt. He delayed his own title win by a whole year.

Also, Taker was supposed to lost against King Kong Bundy, since McMahon really appreciated the man's work (His philosophy was The bigger, the Better). Vince eventually came to his senses. Taker won that night.

Bam Bam Bigelow was originally reluctant to lose Lawrence Taylor. Vince promised him a major babyface push. Bigelow agreed to job to Taylor. However, the Kliq had other plans. He never received the promised push and his career never recovered from his embarrassing loss to Taylor.

Wrestlemania XII

wmxii.jpg

Razor Ramon vs Goldust - Miami Street Fight / IC Championship

WWE.com covered his one as well, but not the whole story. Razor Ramon was to face Goldust in a rematch of their Royal Rumble wrestling bout, in which Goldust won the IC belt. Shortly before Wrestlemania XII, Hall was suspended for Wellness Policy violation. It's rumored that he gave noticed and told Vince he'd be joining WCW soon, and was conveniently Wellnessed. He was replaced by Piper in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl.

There's also a similar rumor concerning the Diesel vs Taker match. Nash was apparently scheduled to win, but when he also informed Vince of his intentions to leave the company, Taker was booked to win instead.

Wrestlemania XIII

wrestlemania_13.jpg

Vader vs Mankind

According to Foley's first book, Have a Nice Day, he wanted to reprise his feud with Vader. (The same man who made him lose an ear, by the way...). They like the idea, but decided to first team them up, and then break up between the two leading up t. But neither the breakup nor the feud occurred.

Bret Hart vs HBK - Iron Man II / WWF Championship

This is perhaps the most famous (or infamous?) case: The plan was for Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels to have a rematch from the previous year for the WWF Title, this time HBK returning the favor and Hitman winning the title. However, shortly before the big event, Shawn conveniently "Lost his smile". Claiming to be unable to compete due to a leg injury, HBK had to be withdrawn from the equation, with Stone Cold taking his place (though it wouldn't be for the belt; Sid would go on to defend the belt against Taker). The change turned out to be perhaps the most important match for Austin's career, as well as a key event to the Attitude Era. HBK's old antics turned out to be what's best for the business, to quote HHH here.

Wrestlemania XIV

wm14.jpg

Cactus Jack vs Chainsaw Charlie/Terry Funk

Foley and Funk went to WWF Creative team. They wanted their team to breakup and to have a match against each other at WM14 with extreme rules: Barb wires, flaming tables, explosives, etc...Shockingly enough, they actually liked the idea. But it was eventually decided to keep the two together and make the breakup shortly after WM. Half their wish was granted though, as they would face the New Age Outlaws for the WWF Tag Team Championship in a Dumpster match.

Bret Hart vs Steve Austin - WWF Championship.

After Survivor Series 1997, Bret Hart was to drop the title to Shawn, job to him a few times, and then win it back at the February PPV. Bret would face Stone Cold and drop the belt and conclude the feud between the two. Of course, the plans had to be drastically changed after Bret's sudden departure from the company.

Also, Shawn was originally unwilling to compete at WM14 due to his back injury he suffered at the 1998 Royal Rumble. There was a rumor backstage that he was pulling another "Lost my smile" and was doing it for not wanting to put Austin over at Mania. However, Undertaker, absolutely furious after hearing this, went to Shawn and basically told him that should he lose his smile again, then his back injury would be the least of his worries. Rest is history...

Wrestlemania XV

wm15.jpg

Austin vs The Rock vs Mankind - WWF Championship

According to Foley's book, this was the original plan for WMXV. Which made sense, since the three had been feuding for the belt six months prior to the event. However, Foley was eventually removed from the equation, and the match was made a singles match for the WWF Title. Shawn Michaels apparently told Vince that a WWF title match should always be a one on one match, and a triple threat would go against the tradition (though he was pushing for The Rock to be out, not Mick Foley, which I'm sure The Rock is still pissed about). Moreover, Foley was in terrible shape in the weeks prior to the event. The deciding factor was that The Rock vs Austin would be a bigger draw than Austin vs Foley. Mankind was put in an extremely short match against Big Show (again possibly because of Foley's shape), and Austin vs The Rock turned out to be a pretty good main event. Foley recently revealed that he cried once he realized he wouldn't be main eventing WM that year...

Ken Shamrock vs Val Venis vs Billy Gunn vs Goldust - Intercontinental championship

Road Dogg vs Al Snow vs Bob "Hardcore" Holly - Hardcore Championship

This was the original plan for the Wrestlemania XV IC and Hardcore title matches. Both groups of people had been feuding for 3-4 months for their respective title. However, two weeks before WM15, Road Dogg was booked to win the IC title against Val Venis on RAW. Billy Gunn won the Hardcore title from Hardcore Holy the same night. Billy Gunn would go on to defend the Hardcore belt at WM (in a losing effort) against Al Snow and Holly, and Dogg would successfully defend the IC belt against Ken Shamrock, Goldust and Val Venis (though he would lose it the belt 24 hours later against Goldust, who would lose the title to Godfather two weeks later...). The reasoning behind this is Russo wanted to shock things up...He basically sacrificed the integrity of both feuds for ratings...

Butterbean vs Dr. Death Steve Williams

I can't confirm that this one was actually in the works. However, I believe this match may have occurred under normal circumstances. The purpose of the Brawl for All tournament was to push Dr Death Steve Williams as the toughest guy in the WWF. Everyone within the organization expected him to win. However, Bart Gunn inexplicably defeated him, and ended up winning the tournament. Not only was the purpose of the tournament annihilated, but the entire thing was received with disdain by wrestling fans. Moreover, several superstars were put on the injury list (including Godfather, who was out for three months). Brawl for All would somehow continue at WM XV, as Bart faced Butterbean, and get annihilated in less than a minute, thus concluding one of the worst flops in WWF history.... It's possible that Steve Williams was to take his place had he won the tournament. I'm somewhat of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to the wrestling, and I like to think that JR convinced Gunn to face Butterbean since he knew the latter would kick his butt. Which would make sense, considering Steve Williams was one of his boys...

Triple H vs Steve Austin - WWF Championship

HBK lobbied very hard for his friend Triple H to win the Survivor Series 1998 Deadly Games Tournament. He was to join the Corporation as the new world champion, and feud with Austin for the next several months. Austin would challenge Triple H for the championship at main event of WM15. However, Triple H had to take some time off after Summerslam of the same year, and with the rehab taking longer than he was expecting, he was unable to participate in the tournament. Rock was given his spot.

Mark Henry & D'Lo Brown vs Jeff Jarrett & Owen Hart - WWF Tag Team Championship

The plan was for both team to have a rematch of their Saint Valentine's Massacre encounter. Problem is, Mark Henry was injured shortly before the February PPV, and as such Henry had to be written off TV (JJ destroyed a guitar on Henry's knee). Henry was still expected to return shortly before WM. But his rehab took another 6 weeks (he returned on the pilot episode of Smackdown). Test was picked as his replacement at the very last minute (quite literally, as D'Lo and Test won a battle royal minutes before the show started)

Wrestlemania XVI

wm17.jpg

Steve Austin vs Big Show
The Rock vs Triple H
The Rock vs Triple H vs Big Show vs Chris Jericho: WWF Championship

When Big Show jumped ship to WWF in 1999, one of the stipulations in his contract stated that he was obligated to get a Wrestlemania main event match for the WWF title. The early plan was for him to face Steve Austin at WM16. Problems arose when Austin's growing neck issues eventually caught up with him and was unable to wrestle for nearly a full year to have surgery + rehab. Moreover, Show was nowhere near ready to main event WM.

Originally, Rock and HHH were supposed to settle their feud in some sort of gimmick match. Vince and the creative team still had to deal with the problem of the stipulation in Big Show's contract. So he was added into the mix, and the match became a triple threat for the WWF title. However, it was felt that it needed another big face to make it a Fatal Four way match. Chris Jericho was strongly considered. there was concern about Jericho's lack of drawing power, though. As such, Y2J didn't get to main event WM that year. Mick Foley, whose popularity was red hot following the retirement angle at No Way Out 2000, was asked to come back at WM for one final match (yeah right...). The match also added another stipulation that there would be a member of the McMahon family for each competitor.

X Pac vs Kane

According to Sean Waltman, he had an idea to extend the feud between X Pac and Kane all the way up to Wrestlemania. The idea was to finish the feud in a Barbed Wire Cage Match, with explosives. Didn't happen for a couple of reasons: One, the tech team couldn't get the explosives to work in such an cage. Second: X Pac had a fractured hand, and had to wrestle with limited capacity (Hence the reason why he ended up in a tag team mach with Rikishi as Kane's partner, and Road Dogg as X Pac's partner).

Steve Austin vs The Rock

One of the plans for WMXVI was for the Rock and Austin to go at it for a second round., with Austin possibly turning heel. With Austin out due to injury, the match had to be delayed a full year. Timing worked fine for the company, as WMXVI still managed to make a huge draw.

Wrestlemania XVII

x7.jpg

Steve Austin vs The Rock vs Triple H - WWF Title

The early idea was for Triple H, Stone Cold and the Rock to go at it at the biggest stage of them all (which would have been the first time the three men would go at it on PPV, as their planned Survivor Series match never occurred because of Austin's need for neck surgery). Triple H felt (just like his friend Shawn Michaels) that triple threats for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania would be breaking the tradition. He opted out of the title match. Rock vs Stone Cold II for the belt was then decided to be the main event..

Triple H vs Shawn Michaels

HBK was heavily rumored to make his return at WM17, for at least one more match. During his last TV appearance in 2000 (in which he explained Mick Foley his whereabouts during Survivor Series of the previous year, during the Who Ran Over Austin angle), he looked in great shape. Moreover, he told the crowd "Four Months". Everyone assumed that he would return some time before WM. And there was actual plans for HBK for WM17. First, he was to face his best friend Triple H. However, it was later decided to use as a non-wrestling role (Triple H's manager?), in order to set a feud between the two. Shortly before WM, he showed up at work higher than he's ever been, and was basically told to go home. HBK's return was delayed for over a year, after he finally confronted his demons and took back control of his life.

Triple H vs Hulk Hogan

Another idea was for HHH to face Hogan. The latter had no contractual obligations to WCW and was a free agent. Vince tried to have him sign a contact for WWF, but they couldn't reach a deal. Hogan would reach a deal (Along with Nash and Hall) a year later. HHH was once again without an opponent.

Triple H vs Ray Lewis
Triple H vs Mike Tyson

WWE.com mentions this one as well. Vince was pushing for Triple H to work with a celebrity as as throwback to Wrestlemania 11.. Several names were thrown in the hat: From Superbowl champion Ray Lewis to a "big Japanese guy who was the Pride Champion, according to Triple H". Eventually, Mike Tyson was selected. (Which would make sense, considering the history between the two at that point). The plan was to have a six round boxer vs wrestler match, with both Earl Hebner and Millis Lane. However, Tyson demanded an astronomical amount of money. Match didn't take place.

HHH was yet again without an opponent. Taker was rumored to join forces with Kane to face Rikishi & Haku at Wrestlemania, but didn't happen. Both Taker and HHH being free for WM, the two having a match was a natural thing.

Mick Foley vs Vince McMahon

In the last weeks of 2000 Vince McMahon was feuding with Mick Foley. Vince was accusing then commissioner Foley of being irresponsible and putting the WWF Superstars in jeopardy. Eventually, Mick was fired (Mick Foley fired on national TV? Certainly you jest!). William Regal replaced him as commissioner. It was safe at that point to expect Foley to have a match with either Regal or McMahon. Foley said he wouldn't wrestle Regal at Mania. The reason was, as much as he respected Regal, he's not the kind of guy he'd come out out retirement for and have one last great match with. He also said no to a fight with Vince, since he didn't think he'd ever wrestle again. He agreed on being referee in the Shane/Vince match. The relationship between Foley and McMahon has never been the same since.

Wrestlemania XVIII

wm18.jpg

Triple H vs Steve Austin - Undisputed Championship

The Rock vs Steve Austin

Hulk Hogan vs Steve Austin

Chris Benoit vs Steve Austin

Kurt Angle vs Steve Austin

This is perhaps the craziest WM in terms of the number of plans this one went through.

The plan was for Austin to win the Undisputed title at Vengeance 2001, and defend the title against his former tag team partner, Triple H. Austin was to go to WM as the heel, while Triple H would benefit from a babyface turn from his return. HHH would win the Rumble, and challenge Austin for the belt. However, this was shelved once it was deemed Austin would be a better fit as a face after the InVasion storyline concluded, and Jericho was the one booked to win the Undisputed Championship (as a heel). Y2J was chosen to face HHH at Mania.

The other Wrestlemania plan was for Austin and Rock to go at it for the third time. It was even teased at the Royal Rumble, when Austin told Rock he was 2-0 against him at Mania. However, plans were changed again once Hogan, Hall and Nash signed for WWF. A huge match like Austin vs Hogan or Rock vs Hogan becoming more than just a possibility for WWF, plans for Round III of Austin vs Rock were put on the shelf for a better occasion (WM19).

Austin was offered Hogan at WM. However, Austin flat out refused, citing personal differences between him and Hogan during their tenure in WCW. Rock, on the other hand, was more than willing to work with Hogan.

So, this still left Austin without an opponent. He was offered Scott Hall. However, Austin was reluctant to work with him, due to his past troubles with alcohol. He eventually accepted. He was convinced, much like the rest of the company was, that Hall wouldn't make it to Wrestlemania. The feeling within the organization was that sooner or later Hall's demons would eventually catch up with him and that he'd get fired for it. He was then offered to wrestle an opponent of his choosing. Austin wanted Chris Benoit. He cited Benoit as one of his favorite performers in the business. However, Benoit was nowhere near ready to wrestle, as his rehab would take almost a full year year to complete. He then picked Angle, claiming he'd be more than happy to wrestle him. So the unofficial plan was for Austin to take on Angle as contingency plan, should Hall fail to appear. However, much to everyone's surprise, Hall remained sober in the entirety of the road to Wrestlemania, and the match took place. The contingency plan was out.

Sting vs Kurt Angle

Mr Perfect vs Kurt Angle

Before the proposed Angle/Austin match, the earliest idea for Kurt Angle to have a match against Sting. Steve Borden was intrigued, but came to the realization that his potential WWE Career would be a disaster, citing fellow former WCW superstar as example. Talks were only semi-serious because of this, and plans were dropped (same reason he didn't show up at WM21 & 27).

Mr Perfect returned at the Royal Rumble. He greatly impressed WWE Officials and was offered a contract. An idea was for him to take on Kurt Angle (whom Perfect hit with a Perfect Plex dring the Rumble match). However, Perfect did not take part of WM for some reason. He was relegated to a Sunday Night Heat tag team match (Perfect, Test and Lance Storm vs Scotty 2 Hotty, Albert and Rikishi.)

Kane vs Kevin Nash

Nash was to have to have a match at WM against Kane. However, with Scott Hall being a time bomb, Nash was told by Vince to keep an eye on Hall. He was to accompany Hall to the ring at WM, and should things go wrong, take his place. This meant that his role was reduced to that of contingency for Hall, hence why he didn't have a match that night.

Kane was then offered Angle as the company was really impressed with their work during an episode of RAW. WWE had at last found an opponent for Kurt.

Edge vs William Regal

The two had been feuding for months. The idea was for Edge to get the IC belt from Regal at WM18. However, Edge was replaced with RVD when it was deemed the matches were too unexciting.

Wrestlemania XIX

wm19.jpg

The Rock vs Goldberg

After Rock finished his full time career as a superstar in order to transition into becoming a movie star, he still wanted to do make compete at WM events, but only for "Once in a life time" occasions, such as Hogan the previous year (and John Cena a decade later, but that one turned out to be so profitable for WWE that it occurred TWICE in a lifetime). He wanted to face Bill Goldberg at Wrestlemania. One problem, though:Contract negotiations stalled and Goldberg ended up signing shortly before the event. It was too late to do a proper buildup. Goldberg showed up on RAW the next night. Problem is, he signed two years after the end of WCW. The momentum was gone, fans didn't care anymore, and the way he was written was abysmal. Moreover, I think one of the reasons Vince wanted to sign him so badly is because they wanted a Goldberg / Austin at WMXX , but Austin was forced to retire at WMXIX due to his growing physical problems. Austin had to settle with being the special guest referee during the Brock vs Goldberg stare down contest.

John Cena vs Jay Z

Cena was to challenge Jay Z in a rap battle at Wrestlemania, but plans fell through when neither men showed up that night.

Triple H vs Austin

Triple H vs Kevin Nash

With Steve Austin set to return in time for Wrestlemania 19, he was set to face Triple H. Triple H laid the groundwork by having him "pulling an Austin" and leaving on RAW, and by objecting to Austin winning the RAW Superstar of the Decade on the 10th Anniversary edition of RAW. These plans were in the works while Rock / Goldberg was still a possibility. When it became clear that it was no longer the case, Austin and Rock then agreed to face each other.

This left Trips without an opponent. He wanted Kevin Nash. Much like Austin wanting to face Benoit the previous year, Nash was still unavailable due to rehab. He had to settle with Booker T.

Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit vs Triple H -Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

The earliest plan was for Triple H to have a mega push as a face, and would be challenged by Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship at WM20. As a matter of fact, the very reason Evolution was put together in together in the first place was to set up a break up angle and a big match between the two at WM. HHH would get kicked out of Evolution by Batista and Orton, and he would seek revenge (as a face). Plans were stalled however when it was decided that turning Trips face so soon would be a mistake.

Also on the earliest suggested card was Shawn Michaels vs The Rock. Michaels was apparently looking forward to the match. The Rock, not so much: He outright rejected it. It's safe to say there was still bad blood between the two after Michaels tried to get him out of the triple threat match at Wrestlemania 15. The Rock ended up reuniting the Rock N Sock Connection with Mick Foley in a losing effort against Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair.

With Orton's push delayed for a year, this left HHH without an opponent for WM. Eventually, Smackdown's Chris Benoit got the call. He was to win the Royal Rumble and challenge Trips for the world heavyweight championship. However, there was genuine concern about the lack of drawing power of the match. After HBK was available following the Rock refusing to work with him, he was added to the mix and the match was now a triple threat.

There was an idea to make the triple threat match for the WHC a ladder match, as a reference to the 10th year Anniversary of HBK's ladder match with Razor Ramon. However, it was felt that climbing the ladder would be anti climatic compared to a submission or a pinfall. The idea was nixed.

Mark Henry vs Matt Hardy

Hardy was in a losing streak after jumping ship to the RAW brand. The plan was for him to have a big win against a strong opponent to give him a much needed boost. Mark Henry was chosen. But Henry got injured before WM, and the match never took place.

Vince McMahon vs Steve Austin

After all the heat Vince had gotten after getting over faces such as Undertaker, Stephanie, Zach Gowen and even Hogan, the plan was for Austin to make him pay big time in a Shortcut brawl match. But no one told Austin, and when somebody finally did he was not interested.

Wrestlemania XXI

logo-wm21.jpg

Brock Lesnar vs Triple H

There was plan for Brock to face Triple H at WM21. Plans were dropped after Brock left WWE to pursue his dreams of playing football (which didn't go exactly as planned...)

Randy Orton vs Triple H - World Heavyweight Championship

This was the second attempt at having a Triple and Randy Orton match at WM. This time the roles would be reversed: Orton would be the face kicked out of Evolution, and go after Triple H's title. WWE had an entire year planned for Randy Orton, from WM20 all the way up to WM21, in order to build him into a credible face and champion. However, creative team dropped the ball. Randy Orton was turned face about 5-6 months too early, and ended up winning the World Heavyweight Title from Chris Benoit at Summerslam, with a crowd in favor of his title win. The following day, he was thrown out of Evolution. The next PPV, he lost the belt to Triple H. Basically 6 months of storyline was condensed in 6 weeks. After the angle was finished, that was it for his mega face push. His momentum was annihilated. No idea why they did that.

Plans for Randy Orton main eventing a WM were scrapped a second year in a row, and Batista was the one to get Orton's WM spot.

Lita vs Trish Stratus - WWE Women's championship

Trish won the title from Lita at New Year's Revolution. The plan was for Lita to win it back at WM21. But she got injured at NYR, and the match never took place.

Undertaker vs Kurt Angle

Undertaker & Kane vs Gene Snitsky and Hendenreich - Interpromotional Tag Team Match

After Kurt Angle came back from neck injury in summer of 2004, he and Taker wanted to have a match at WM21. The idea was to keep each superstar apar in order to hype their WM match. The Title would be on the line. Taker would finally have his classic WM match (at the time). But Vince decided to keep the title on JBL until WM. Angle's neck also started hurting again. They couldn't do the thing, but Angle would go on to have a great match with Michaels.

Both Snitszky and Hendereich had hilarious promos together. The plan was to team both for a WM match against a reunited Taker & Kane in an Interpromotional Tag Team match. But Taker wasn't too keen on this, and opted to do a feud with Orton instead. (He was also willing to let Randy end the streak, but someone in the company disagreed with him and the streak went on).

The Rock vs Sting

The Rock vs JBL - WWE Championship

The Rock was scheduled to come back at WM21. He wanted to so another special match (to follow Rock vs Austin III in 2003, and him working with Ric Flair the next year). He was pitched many ideas and plans. He had his own ideas: The Rock wanted Sting. However, since Sting never really wanted to work for WWE, talks were only at a semi-serious level, and the were short-lived (Dave Meltzer also said it was Rock's second idea, though he didn't mention what was exactly was his first).

WWE wanted Rock to face JBL. This was back when JBL was to keep the belt a lot longer (After the spring). There was even an idea of Rock winning the belt at WM, and JBL winning it back on SD! two days later. Rock liked the idea. Why didn't the match happen then? Rock's contract expired and nobody in WWE tried to contact him for a new contract, nor thank him for his services. (the incident was later described as an "Oversight")

Rock didn't have a match at WM21, and John Cena was the one challenging JBL for his belt...

Wrestlemania XXII

wm22.jpg

Eddie Guerrero vs HBK - Interpromotional match

Before Eddie'st tragic death, he was scheduled to face Shawn Michaels in an interpromotional match at WM. The idea was that Eddie would remind HBK and the WWE Fans of all the demons he and Eddie had, and that basically he was no better than him. HBK would confirm these claims to be true, but he'd been sober and drug-free for years and has since become a better man. He'd get a positive reaction from the fans, which Eddie would hate.

Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon

After burying the hatchet with WWE, Bret was offered a match with Vince McMahon. The idea was for Bret to get his revenge at WM22. Bret declined (he should have done the same four years later...), but absolutely was open to the idea of doing a DVD and a Hall of Fame induction (Which he did).

Randy Orton vs Batista - World Heavyweight Championship

The plan was for Batista to defend to defend his World Heavyweight Championship at WM22 against his former Evolution partner. Problem is, Batista injured his right triceps in a match with Mark Henry at a live event and he wad to forfeit the title to have surgery and rehab in Janurary. RAW superstar Kurt Angle got the call to jump ship to Smackdown and won the vacant in a battle royal. The SD! main event at Wrestlemania was to be Randy Orton vs Kurt Angle. It was decided to add Rey Mysterio to the mix as a sign of respect to Eddie Guerrero (the beginning of the Eddiexploitation...). Rey won the Royal Rumble. He later lost his WM spot to Randy Orton, but won it back when Theodore Long made it a triple threat match.

It's interesting to note that Orton was scheduled to win the belt from the very early plans, but those plans when he altered became a royal pain to work with (he was suspended for 60 days after WM). This is the third consecutive WM that Orton was scheduled to leave with the title, but didn't...

I also read somewhere that Hulk Hogan was in talks to have a match against Ric Flair at WM22, but I'm not too sure if this was an actual plan or just a rumor.

Wrestlemania XXIII

wm23.jpg

HHH vs John Cena II - WWE Championship

The idea was to have a rematch of last year's main event. However, Triple H injured his right quad (similar to the injury he suffered in 2001) in a match against Rated RKO at New Year's Resolution 2007, and was out for several months. Fellow DX member (and best friend) HBK got the call to replace him.

Shawn Michaels vs King Booker - Battle of the Billionaires

This was the original idea for the Battle of the Billionaires match. HBK would represent Donald Trump (which would makes sense, considering the history between Shawn and the McMahons), and Booker was to represent Vince McMahon. However, with HBK replacing HHH in the main event, the idea had to be rewritten. Bobby Lashley replacing Shawn, and Umaga now representing McMahon (with Booker participating in the MITB match).

CM Punk or Rob Van Dam vs Bobby Lashley - ECW Title

Before he was invited to compete in the Battle of the Billionaires match, Bobby Lashley was to defend the ECW championship against either CM Punk or RVD.

Big Show vs Hulk Hogan

The idea was to have a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Hogan vs Andre WM3 match. Never took place after Hogan turned it down due to monetary issues, and Big Show left WWE a few months before WM23.

Wrestlemania XXIV

f412cac5ca281727a561e9b7af67755a.jpg

Several ideas were discussed for the WWE Championship match before officials came up with the Orton Vs Cena vs HHH match:

Ric Flair vs Batista vs Randy Orton vs Triple H

Triple H vs Batista

Triple H vs John Cena

The earliest idea was for all four former Evolution members to be in the WWE championship match. When Ric Flair became adamant about retiring at WM24 (yeah right...), it was felt that a retirement match would be more appropriate, so the Four Way match idea was nixed. (Batista, HBK and Randy Orton were all considered to face Flair, until HBK was selected)

Vince and the creative team were big on Triple H vs Batista. The latter was to jump ship to RAW and face his former Evolution mentor once again. However, it was decided to delay Batista's move to RAW after WM. Batista ended up taking place in the Battle for Brand Supremacy (Umaga representing RAW).

Another idea was to have a rematch of the WM22 main event: Triple H vs Cena. Triple H would win the Elimination Chamber at No Way Out 2008. Cena was win the belt from Orton at No Way Out. However, when it was decided to extend Orton's title reign up to WM, the match was made a triple threat. (Orton ended up winning the match as well). Cena didn't win the belt at NWO, but instead won the Rumble. Both he and HHH ended up facing Orton at WM.

Vince McMahon vs Mick Foley

Shane McMahon vs Mick Foley

Foley & Finlay vs Shane & Vince

The plan was to follow up the "Illegitimate son" angle with Mick Foley possibly joining forces with Finlay against both Vince and Shane, or Foley against either Shane or Vince (Vince has been wanting to have a match with Foley since 2001). None of these ideas materialized.

Matt Hardy vs MVP - US Championship

Matt Hardy was to make his return shortly before WM and resume his feud with MVP for the US Championship. He had been on the sidelines after an emergency appendectomy. He was medically cleared to return around February, but was kept off TV until WM for some reason (during which he prevented MVP from winning the MITB match). The match took place a month later at Backlash, in which Matt won the belt.

Interesting fact about WM24: The reason Chavo Guerrero ended up dropping the ECW Title to Kane in 11 seconds is because he was spotted on TNA territory. Vince was obviously not too pleased with his actions...

Wrestlemania XXV

wm25.jpg

Batista vs John Cena

Edge vs John Cena - World Heavyweight Championship

Vince badly wanted to see a rematch of the Batista vs John Cena Summerslam 2008. at the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania. However, in December of 2008, Batista elected to undergo surgery to repair a hamstring tear he suffered at Summerslam (the same match John Cena in which injured his neck, ironically enough). The match was delayed for a year (though it did end up taking place as Vince wanted, since the actual 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania was WM26, not 25...)

With Batista out of the equation, Edge was chosen as Cena's opponent. The feud between the two in 2006 was a critical success, and the idea was for the two to have their first WM encounter. It was scrapped when the Big Show was thrown into the mix. Why he was, I have no idea...

JBL vs Shawn Michaels

Originally, the two were to conclude their feud at WM. However, it was scrapped in favor of a Taker vs HBK match (and than freakin Lord it was...)

Christian vs Jeff Hardy

Christian was to be the one revealed as the one who attacked Jeff Hardy and his girlfriend. The two would have a feud culminating with a match at WM25. It never happened, and Matt Hardy was revealed to be the one behind the attacks.

Chris Jericho vs Mickey Rourke

Chris Jericho vs Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper & Greg Valentine

The original plan was for Jericho to work with Mickey Rourke. He was genuinely excited to take part of WM25. Problem is: He was so exited was he publically spoke about it. Newspaper quickly shared the news. There was genuine fear that him taking part of WM would affect his chances of winning the academy award for best actor in The Wrestler. Plan was nixed.

Without an opponent for WM25, Vince's plan B was for Jericho to face a team of legends, mentored by Ric Flair. The legends were to be Greg Valentine, Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper. However, Jericho told Vince that this wouldn't be a good match at all, to which Vince replied "This isn't supposed to be a good match...". Jericho felt that the quality of the match would improve quite a bit by replacing Valentine. Vince's criteria was that the legend shad to be a Hall of Famer, and had a match at WM1. Jerry Lawler was suggested but he wasn't around when WM1 took place. Ricky Steamboat was suggested by Jericho, and Vince agreed. (Steamboat ended up stealing the show in the match, so it's a good thing he agreed).

Mickey Rourke neither had a match at WM nor did he win the Academy Award, but still took part of the event in some capacity (he knocked out Jericho after the match was over)

Wrestlemania XXVI

wmxvi.jpg

Shawn Michaels vs The Miz

Undertaker vs Drew McIntyre

Believe it or not, these actually were the plans for Wrestlemania. According to HBK, Vince wanted to do Old Generation vs New Generation matches. Shawn was adamant about retiring at WM26. (He was supposed to be to retire the year before, but Vince practically begged him not to). He wanted a retirement match, with Undertaker being the opponent. And his wish was granted.

Randy Orton vs Ted DiBiase jr.

DiBiase was in line for a major face turn in early 2010. He was scheduled to face his Legacy mentor, Randy Orton, at Wrestlemania 26. However, when crowd responses were more favorable to a Randy Orton face turn, he got the push instead. DiBiase remained heel (same for Cody Rhodes) . The match was changed to a triple threat, adding in Cody Rhodes.

Wrestlemania XXVII

wm27.jpg

Undertaker vs Sting

Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar

Undertaker vs Wade Barrett

The earliest plan was for Sting to make his long anticipated debut at WM27, and challenge Taker's streak. According to Steve Borden, there was some semi-serious talk. Sting never signed for the same reason he didn't do WM18 and 21: He wasn't too sure if the creative direction would do a good job with the Sting character and plans fell through.

This left Taker without an opponent. Vince's dream match for WM27 was Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker. He worked really hard to make it happen. At one one point he was very confident that he could borrow the then UFC superstar for one night only. However, plans fell through. Brock Lesnar was the UFC champion and the company's biggest draw. Dana White made it clear that he wouldn't let him compete (and lose) in a fake match (I'm sure there also was concern of his part that Brock could get injured during the match). Taker was once again without an opponent.

Next in line to challenge Taker's streak was Wade Barrett, then leader of the Nexus. The seeds of the rivalry were planted at Bragging Rights 2010, when Nexus cost his Buried Alive match against Kane (the World Heavyweight was on the line). With such a daunting act against the Phenom, one would expect Taker to lay down some major payback on Barrett and the Nexus, right? Wrong. The prospect of a Taker/Barrett match at Wrestlemania was soon a thing of the past as Vince badly wanted to involve Shawn Michaels to some capacity at WM27. He felt like he could still make make money off the the past two matches he had with Taker. Which was one of the reasons why Triple H was selected (being HBK's best friend and all), and Barrett wasn't. Nexus never explained the reasoning behind their attack, and Taker never even mentioned Nexus when he returned to TV. Basically Nexus attacked Taker for shits and giggles, and he was perfectly fine with it...

Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus - US Title

Didn't happen because Vince felt that Rock opening the show (who ended up saying absolutely nothing in the 10 minutes he was given), the Snoop Dogg rap contest and of course Pee-Wee Heyman appearing in a family-friendly show was far more important than a wrestling match. The match was relegated to pre-show status. Oh, and it gets worse. Halfway through the match, the lumberjacks (yes, it's been changed into a lumberjack match) for some reason ended up fighting each other, and Theodore "Has the power to change ANY match into a tag team contest" Long then decided to make it a battle royal, which Great Khali won...Can it get any worse for both Sheamus and Bryan? Yes it can! The next year, they are booked in a World Heavyweight match in the opening of the show., which has Sheamus Brogue Kick Bryan into hell (as JR would say) and win the match in less than fifteen seconds...

Wrestlemania XXVIII

0ed7d15f79.jpg

The Rock vs John Cena - WWE Championship

Was originally for the WWE Championship. However, after CM Punk's popularity went through the roof following the Summer of Punk, it was decided to capitalize on this and have him be the champion in time for WM28. Their rematch at WM29 was for the belt.

Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio

It was planned shortly after Cara's debut in WWE. However, since Sin Cara was pretty much a flop, it never happened. (And Rey didn't even compete at WM28)

Goldust vs Cody Rhodes

Dustin was pushing really hard for this match to happen when he was working as an agent for WWE. A storyline for an potential brother vs brother match was in place when Cody feuded with Dustin's best friend and former tag team partner Booker T. The two even fought in matches (with Cody winning them all)). With the seeds of a Goldust/Cody Rhodes feud planted, one would expect the two to go at it t WM28. But they never did, for some reason. Goldust didn't compete that night, and Cody would defend (in a losing effort) his IC title against Big Show.

Steve Austin vs Goldberg

Austin stated that he was physically fit for one final match. Some time before WM28, Goldberg stated that he would like to wrestle again, and wanted his opponent to be Austin. Everyone put the two together and assumed that a Goldberg/Stone Cold match at WM28 was likely to happen. However, possibly because of genuine concern for Austin's neck, the match never materialized.

Undertaker vs Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho was to return to WWE in early 2012 and challenge Taker for the streak. When it was decided to put the belt on CM Punk in time for WM28, it was felt that Jericho would be a proper opponent for Punk. Triple H was chosen to have a rematch of their WM27 encounter.

Mark Henry vs Big Show - World Heavyweight Championship

Shaq vs Big Show

One of the ideas was for Big Show to compete for the World Heavyweight champion against Mark Henry. Either Show or Henry would win the belt at Elimination Chamber, and face the other at WM28 to conclude their feud. However, it was dropped when Shaq was interested in wrestling Big Show at WM 28. It was decided to extend Daniel Bryan's title run all the way up to WM. Bryan would go on defend the belt against Sheamus (and got slaughtered in mere seconds..), and Henry would compete in the 12-men tag team match to determine the general manager of both RAW and Smackdown. (he was part of Team Johnny)

Shaq really wanted to wrestle Big Show at Wrestlemania 28. This match would be a conclusion to their physical encounter during an episode of RAW on July of 2009. Shaq confirmed several times in the months leading up to WM that he was in negotiations with WWE. ESPN's "Mike & Mike" radio show that he would indeed be at WM28 and wrestle the Big Show. But WWE.com later posted that Shaq wouldn't be on the card of WM. No idea why plans fell through.

Cody Rhodes was then the chosen one for Big Show's WM28 opponent

Also, Snooki was to participate in another divas match. I can only assume it never took place since her WM27 appearance was unanimously disliked by both fans and WWE superstars...

Wrestlemania XXIX

20121015_EP_LIGHT_WM-economy_C-homepage.jpg

Chris Jericho vs Ryback

After Jericho returned at the Royal Rumble last year, he was to make a progressive heel turn, and have a feud with Ryback. However, McMahon became a big fan of the Fandango, and wanted Jericho to put him over in his first match. Ryback would face Mark Henry that night. As far as Jericho goes, he was extremely disappointed.

Wrestlemania XXX

wwe-wrestlemania30-logo.jpg

Brock Lesnar vs The Rock

The match was heavily rumored to take place at WM29, but didn't. It originally was a lock for WM30. The idea was for Brock to brutally attack Rock, the day after WM29, leaving Rock on the sidelines for a while. Rock would eventually come back, and get revenge on Lesnar, which would set up to their WM match. However, Rock suffered a severe groin injury during his match against Cena, and had to rush back home. Lesnar's attack on the Rock never took place. Since The Rock was had quite a busy year in Hollywood, he didn't have time to do the match. Rock said in December that a match against Brock Lesnar at WM31 was a possibility.

Steve Austin vs Triple H

About a year ago, they were really pushing for this match to happen. Triple H was to be the heel in charge of WWE (Which did happen), while Vince McMahon as to be the face and hire Steve Austin to represent him in a match (crazy, I know). Plans fell through, perhaps because Austin couldn't guarantee to be physically 100% ready come WM30, neck issues and all.

CM Punk vs Randy Orton - WWE Championship

One of the early plans was for CM Punk to win this year's Rumble, and challenge Randy for the WWE Title at WM30. Things changed drastically when Batista returned to WWE. He was booked to win the Rumble. He is scheduled to face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania. As we all know, a third participant in this match will be added (either Triple or Daniel Bryan), since Batista drew mostly negative responses from the crowd and had to be turned heel. Bryan was the one to win the match against Triple H. He was part of the triple threat match, which he won as well.

CM Punk vs Triple H

Before leave WWE after the RR, the finalized plan for CM Punk was to be the one taking Triple, not Daniel Bryan.

Cody Rhodes vs Goldust

This was the second attempt at getting the two face each other at a Wrestlemania. However, this one won't be happening either

Goldberg vs Ryback:

Another match Vince McMahon really wanted to happen. But it won't be happening due to money issues.

so. much. to. comment. on.

really good read Citan, great stuff. I'll try to comment on as much as possible:

- The Dibiase/Honky Tonk Man one is pretty famous, and is amazing how much it may have made Savage's career

- I find it quite amusing that both HBK & HHH stopped a triple threat main event happening because of tradition, seeing as they'd both compete in the first at XX

- The plans for X8 are crazy, yet totally believable. So many options heading into the show!

- I find it weird that The Rock was apparently limiting himself to special matches, yet was up for facing JB fucking L at one point. That one doesn't really add up in my eyes

- Wasn't Eddie/Taker also rumoured for 22?

- Actually heard about the Taker/Brock at 27 rumour a few days before this years, apparently Taker was keen on Brock ending the streak then too

- I believe Hogan/Show at 23 was also proposed for the Battle of the Billionaires, as well as Hogan/Khali. Lashley/Umaga was literally the last resort

- Thank fuck 26 was booked better huh?

Obviously they probably weren't even imagining such a thing as "the streak" back then, they never really started paying attention until Taker beat Flair and held up his hands indicating "10". And it never really became a story device until Orton at 21.

Oh I know that, I just meant that had he lost any of them that Mania would have been different the last few years. No streak storyline, hall no shocking moment at 30. Weird to think of that.

-Yeah haha. Quite ironic. Though I can't help but wonder where HBK was when they made the Fatal Four Way for WMXVI (I refuse to call it WM2000...)? It would have been much better had it been Triple H vs the Rock...

-Maybe Rock like the fact that he'd be winning te title, and not necessarily the fact that he'd wrestle JBL. IDK.

-Haven't heard about Eddie/Taker. But it may have been true. I also heard of Taker/Angle at WM22, after Eddie's death, but before Batista's injury. The two had a match at NWO.

-Yeah I heard about that. Thank God for the final plan (the fact that I'm praising Choco Lesnar, I mean Lashley really shows how much disdain I have for Khali.)

-Thank fuck indeed LOL
